Every once and a while I'll come across a card that boggles my mind. A card that I wonder if ANYONE has EVER legitimately used. Especially some rares.
For example: Change of Plans.
Has anyone ever used this card in a deck?
-
That card has a nice place in some of the loop decks.
I think New Power Rising is a better example.
-wtk
-
Change of plans is key in fruit loops
Men of harad
-
how about Supplies from the Mark ?
-
sorry, that's supplies of the mark.
these cards do have uses...though I can't imaging them actually being put in the deck. hehe
-
Men of Harad is a good one. My favorite is Lightfootedness.

Treachery Deeper Than You Know.... there are thousands of cards I'd play over this one...

That is the first card I thought of when I say the title. how about dwarven guard? Then again, he is a good meat shield.
-
The Weight of a Legacy, its rare for goodness sakes!

Yeah, it's the rares that especially boggle my mind

are you serious? Dwarf guard makes Dwarfs at least a bit competitive in expanded.
Gimli, BoG
Dain Ironfoot
Durin III
Dwarf Guard x4
that's a nice starting setup, isn't it?
and also, Dwarf Guard makes mono Dwarfs playable in FotR Block (even though they are not so good).
-
Also, Dwarf Guard is the best choice if you wanna run SFTF/Dwarves.
Sigewulf, Brave Volunteer, Stern People, Valleys of the Mark, Seeking New Foes are some of the cards that cross my mind. You can notice they are all [Rohan] and I really tried to use them in a deck of some sort, but they are too expensive for their effect. Same goes for Reckless Pride, Ancient Blade and Unexpected Visitor. While their texts could even be used to some purpose, their twilight cost is too high.
-
I remember back in the day when I tons of commons/uncommons, but not much selection and very little rares. Decks were a bit more random back then, doing what I could with what I had. I could see some of these cards getting use in such cases. I mean, I used to actually play with Lorien Elf!
That's before I spent $2-3k on FotR/TT boxes.
-
Heh, first time I tried to use Galadriel, BoW, I used Lorien Elf as a starting companion because I didn't know that RB-s are free #-o
-
What a great lineup! Strength 3-5 and strength 4... slaughtered by a Morgul Gates play.
-
I remember when I had tons of c's and u's without rares. Those were the days. back when I dreamed of owning anduril (or any rare for that matter.)
-

Never underestimate the power of knowing exactly what your opponent is planning on doing.
(Especially if gearing for a Radagast run).
I'm thinking of a Smeagol/Gandalf clog deck with this card.

I wonder if the Elves will sing of mad lady Galadriel and the day she press-ganged a Lorien Elf into her little adventure.
-
Reckless Pride
Mostly useless, but it used to play a key role in my Easterling Bomb deck.
-
Reckless Pride = Open format loops.
-
i would go with : Such a Little Thing (3R80) and Hollowing of Isengard (3R54)

I used to use Hollowing of Isengard in my Regroup wounding Orcs deck.
It took me a few games to realize how silly I was. "But just imagine getting a copy in your opening hand! Free twilight later in the game!"
Yeah, I was silly. =)
-
I've always wanted to build a Windows In a Stone Wall deck. Oh yeah. You can't control what kind of minions you face.
-wtk
-
Mordor Enraged
Make Light of Burdens
They Will Never Stop Hunting You
Stump And Bramble
Southron Marcher
Forewarned
Seeking New Foes
Eowyn's Shield
Elven Rope
Gorbag's Sword
Strange and Terrible
Cast Out
Pirate Cutthroat
Uruk-hai Healer
Burial Mounds
Undead of Angmar
Land Had Changed
Ents Marching
In Twilight
-
Eowyn's Shield is not a bad card at all. Especially on Lady of Ithilien against Easterlings. I use it in my Restless Maiden deck.
I love Gorbag's Sword. Although it costs too much, I made a fun deck around it and Gorbag, Lieutenant of Cirith Ungol.
I also used Elven Rope and Undead of Angmar. Elven Rope can be very handy against Gollum or Grima and Undead of Angmar is essential in Wraith deck.
-
I must admit that all Rares Lego mentioned are rarely used, but one is definitely not: Land Had Changed. This card is crazy in any Site Control Uruk Deck, and notice the wording: any Uruk-Hai. It can be used in Expanded for [Isengard] Uruks, or in Standard/ Expanded for [Uruk] and [Sauron] Uruks, which makes this card very versatile. And a potential strength +5 damage +1 pump mostly means a dead companion. It's not as good, but can be like Savagery to match their numbers in Site Control Decks.
-
Elven Rope is pretty good.

in twilight is quite handy in wraith deck, too. I like these "wandering" pumps from Ages End very much.

On a similar note, I have a friend who in an informal deck threw in some copies of Uruk-hai Healer in a berserker deck... he could exert the berserkers to add tokens to his machines, then heal them for their skirmish abilities. I know it doesn't really fit any particular block since the berserkers are movie... but still, it was pretty mean.

In original Fellowship block, Such a Little Thing was incredibly important. Horn of Boromir is very powerful. There were also lots of 3 and 4 bids, and 6 bids using Sam Son of Hamfast; getting 2 more burdens would trigger Enquea.
A Ranger's Versatility Decks ran Boromir for Flaming Brand and Gondor Bowmen; Hobbit decks ran the pumping version; Gandalf decks ran him as a fighter. Most decks ran a version. And you could always play it for no effect if needed. I saw Moria decks that ran 3.
As for other cards, I only played through set 13. I'll reinforce positive comments on Eowyn's Shield (for archery heavy metas) and Elven Rope. Any card that removes a Goblin Runner from the Ring-bearer is not a terrible card.
-
sorry if my list offended you guys, ive never seen those cards played though
-
No problem, I was also suprised by some of those comments...
I suspect that if a TCG doesn't release any new cards at all, players start to use even "worse" cards, just to try them, to make them playable and to have more fun.
-

I don't think anyone was offended, so no need for apologies. We were just proving you wrong ;)

I am one of those players, but there is limit even to that with some cards. And those are the cards which should be named here.
-
I declare Eowyn, Lady of the Mark and Miruvore for the category never-used-card. Although I will build a deck soon with these two. :)
-
well, like 30% of all Age's End cards are crap, 30% are Op and 40% are like ok. But Miruvore is not the only bad card in T&D; Enemy in Your Midst, Set Up... the liost is nearly endless.

How has no one mentioned Death They Cried?!
-wtk
-
Death they cried really reminds me of parallax arguers from stccg. It may not be the most competitive card, but it always makes for some funny diversion. The perfect meta card.
-
I LOVE DEATH THEY CRIED! Maybe I like it because of the event it represents. mechanically, it isn't super effective, but..... "DEATH!"
-
Gruesome Meal is truly terrible
-
Well it has it use, other than death they cried.
-
Death They Cried DOES have a use - amusement! In fact, I pack four copies in all* of my Rohan decks... ;)
Actually, I think someone mentioned Change of Plans in this list. I was thinking it could be a fun card to combo with a discard deck when you know your opponent is biding their time by not playing minions and building a great hand. Maybe Change of Plans + No Safe Places.
*Technically this statement is true if you consider that I have no Rohan decks...

But can you pack cards in decks you don't have? But the Change of Plans and No safe places have their place in the fruit loop if I remember correctly....

Seventh level >.>
I use this in a deck. Just make sure to play it during Regroup phase with Sixth Level, so you don't have to pay the cost of it before Shadow.
