Title: NFL/Fantasy Football
Post by: sickofpalantirs on October 07, 2010, 07:56:50 PM
So I haven't seen a thread for this yet, so here goes:

Surely some of you out there play Fantasy football...if so, how are you doing? what does your team look like?  and discuss strategy moves etc.

also this can be a place for regular old NFL discussion.

I'll start it off, I'm in a pretty informal 10 player league with default scoring aside from 1 pt. for every 15 passing yards and 6 points for passing touchdowns.  Which is a problem cause I have no good QB's currently.  Anyway my Roster for this week is
Matt Ryan at QB
Reggie Wayne, Roddy White, Mario Manningham at WR
AP, Jamaal Charles, Ryan Torain and RB and W/R
Vernon Davis at TE
MAson Crosby at Kicker, and Green Bay's defense/Special team.

on my bench I have Ben Roethlisberger, Steve Smith (Carolina) Jacoby Jones, Mike Tolbert, Marshawn Lynch and Darren McFadden.

Yes I know I have 6 RBS...I'm working on trying to trade for Brandon Tate.

Regarding the NFL, how about that Randy Moss?  And what teams are you guys rooting for?
I'm partial to the Chiefs and Patriots myself.

Here is my team that is 3rd of 14.

QB - Peyton Manning
RB - DeAngelo Williams, Marshawn Lynch
WR - Anquan Bolden, Hakeem Nicks
TE - Heath Miller
WR/RB - Mike Wallace
Defense - San Francisco
K - David Akers

Bench - Chad Henne, Fred Jackson, Brandon Jacobs, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Robert Meachem, Fred Davis

Because this is a 14 team league...there is a lot less depth. Not having an ace running back is probably going to haunt me (the Panthers are garbage) and I never would have guessed San Francisco would be this bad.

Even in a 14 team league, I will like you could pick up a more reliable defense than San Francisco.  You can definitely tell which team is in the 14 team league ;)

eh I don't care if you hijack my thread.  Only 2 of us seem to play anyhow ;)

I play football AND basketball, so that helps keep the thread in tact I suppose. Never tried baseball.

My football team (main one anyway) is a work league with 12 teams, standard scoring except 0.5 PPR. I would have thought my team would be pretty good:

QB Flacco
RB Chris Johnson 2k
RB Jamaal Charles
RB/WR Randy Moss
WR 85 (espanol)
WR Eddie Royal
TE Jermichael Finley
D/ST Broncos
K Graham Gano

BE - David Garrard, Darren Sproles, Jerome Harrison, BJ Green-Ellis, Javon Ringer (handcuff), and Brandon Tate (immediate pickup with the Moss trade! go UNC!), Seahawks D/ST and Faulk on IR.

The real problems with my team are 1) QB and 2) depth, obviously. 12 teams with 7 BE spots means there is NO ONE out there. I thought Harrison would be playing this year... and I figured Sproles would stand to gain if Mathews struggled, but NOPE. And Flacco is AWFUL, in case you ever thought otherwise. So I am 1-3 but winning as of tonight... go Randy...

I don't play for money though, it's all for fun.

In B-ball, I won my work league (8 teams) last year - first time I've ever won a fantasy league. It's a good time! I know I had Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, Josh Smith, and David Lee... those were my first four picks if I recall. Again, no money though. Oh well.

The overachieving Seattle defense is available and the underachieving Cincinnati defense is available. I wouldn't touch any of the others.

Do not take the Seattle defense, their offense is soo awful that their defense is on the field most of the game

Agreed in theory; for me, there are so few options I kind of have to ride the hot hand at this point. At least that's my excuse for having them. But they will definitely come back to earth; you especially can't rely on the D/ST touchdowns.

How are you planning to replace Finley out of curiosity? is hernadez still available in your league?

Also, after much drafting, waiver pickups and trading I have arrived at the following Holy Trinity of Wide Receivers.  Look, and be amazed.

And yet, I'm still impressed everytime i see it ;)  It just makes me happy inside.  Reggie Wayne is a consistent Stud Roddy white has guaranteed a touchdown or over 100 yards receiving the past 8 games dating back to last year and when Randy Moss goes off, he goes off.  I like my odds.

Not to mention you have Adrian Peterson too,

@stimpy: I would probably go with Darren sproles somewhere cause he is the only rb in San diego and he catches 3-4 passes a game

Whats your team look like Legolas?

strangely enough, for the first time in like 4 years I wasn't able to play in a league cause a lot of my friends are off to college as freshman and don't want to take the time to play so there were like 4-5 of us and thats not even close to enough.

hmm, for some reason, I haven't been following the chargers and I read a lot of preseason hype for sproles, but you're right, he is doing awful

@stimpy: sorry for my idiotic last post, now my only advice is to try and trade every asset you have to get phillip rivers, he's good for 350 yards/3 touchdowns and could win a few games by himself me thinks

I am ashamed to say that the best TE available looked to be Pettigrew of Det... it was him or Todd Heap, or Benjamin Watson. Pretty slim pickings. I probably ought to look for a trade. No Hernandez, but Jermaine Gresham is available and he has looked pretty good (bye this week so no-go).

And legolas3333 - I would love Rivers! The person who has him is the only undefeated team left in our league. I can't quite drop Sproles yet just in case they realize that he's the solution. :) But yeah not much upside it seems.

I AM dropping Harrison first chance I get though. I haven't gotten to watch the Browns but apparently Peyton Hillis is the man there now. Booo

Harrison was traded to the Eagles.
-wtk

Haha just saw that, I guess I'll hang on to him ONE more week. Though I suppose if he is McCoy's backup, and McCoy has a cracked rib or whatnot, it might not be dumb to hang on to him just in case...

Either way, I need 22 points from CJ2k tonight to win. He can definitely do it, but I ain't feelin' lucky.

Titans got him...I own him and I have no idea what to do with him.  I'll probably hold onto him for a bit and roll with Roddy White, Reggie Wayne and Steve Smith (Car.)  Britt and crabtree are my other receivers and they are either injured or on bye or both.

With the TE situation, you could pick up the colts Tamme now that he looks promising.

How is Randy Moss looking right now?
-wtk

Well, Randy is with the Titans... it seems like that might add some value to Chris Johnson if there's no longer 8+ in the box, but I don't know if Randy will put up numbers or not.  I was scared he might just retire, seems like he's pretty unhappy nowadays.

Good thinking, just checked and someone picked him up. I'll just stick with what I have for now...

I also have Randy Moss and I don't know if I should start him because I also have Anquan Boldin, Brandon Lloyd, Dwayne Bowe, and Mike Williams (TB). Help!
