Title: Gorn defender
Post by: jdizzy001 on November 24, 2010, 10:53:44 AM
So, if you follow my threads at all you know I am a Gorn defender nut.  I remember back before TT Gorn defender decks were all the rage.  What I want to know, is it possible to make an effective moive block gorn defender deck.  2 comps, Frodo and Gorn.  I'll post the one I have made later when I have more time, i just wanted to get this out so y'all could start thinking.  Post a complete (freeps & shadow) deck so we can compare! thanks!

I've got a very good one. Quite successful.

Frodo, RH
The One Ring, SAWTC

1x Aragorn, Heir of Elendil

3x Bounder

1x Mithril Coat
3x Anduril, FotW
4x Sapling of the White Tree
1x Scroll of Isildur

2x Coat of Mail
2x Sting, Baggins Heirloom
3x Athelas

1x The Saga of Elendil
1x The Tale of the Great Ring
1x There and Back Again
1x I Will Go

4x Valiant Man of the West
4x Swordarm of the White Tower
4x Dagger Strike
4x Banner of the White Tree
2x Might of Numenor

3x Uruk Foot Soldier
2x Uruk Lieutenant
4x Uruk Plains Runner
2x Uruk Pursuer
2x Uruk Regular
1x Grima, Wormtongue
4x Goblin Runner
3x Goblin Scrabbler
3x Goblin Warrior
2x Moria Scout

4x Saruman's Ambition
2x Greed

4x Hate and Anger
3x Abandoning Reason for Madness
3x Vengeance

I started off with a much smaller deck, but each game I ran out of cards by site 5 or 6, so I kept adding cards until it got ok. This is an old deck and when I look at it now I see that shadow side could be better with a better choice of minions (but still keeping the trackers). I've won a fair deal of games with this one. I usually go 2nd and let my opponent go forth. Swarm is the toughest at site 5 because trackers stop roaming.

Freeps have survived almost everything. Most things don't get enough twilight to do much damage. The bane of this deck is Ninja Gollum (Her Ladyship in particular) and a good build of Isenorcs, but everything else can be survived without too much problem. More than once I survived site 9.

I also made an Anarion defender deck (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php/topic,5776.0.html) which is a bit weaker, but much more fun to play.

I usually play gorn degender decks in casual formats (there are aragorn's built for the deck WTG).  I've been trying to switch the gorn defender back over to movie block, but boy is it hard.  It seems the most promising option is to limit your own movement and hope your shadow can wallop your opponent.  OOOOOOO, an uruk-hai lock down deck would be great to couple with the gorn defender!

I think Coat of Mail is a much better choice over Armor. Especially if combined with Valiant Man of the West.

Gorn lockdown now stands at 2 wins and 0 losses.  I know this record won't last much longer (I'm not THAT good at LOTR, but it's been fun.)  As far as site control goes, I think Attack on Helm's deep is going to serve me better.  i can't seem to win enough skirmishes to utilize down to the last child effectively.  I added lurtz to try and better use down to the last child.  I think that will help

Uruk-hai Band should be your main minion along with Lurtz, SoI. Uruk Assault Band is too expensive to be effectively used and there are no Battleground sites in movie to make him at least fierce. Also, you need events. We are the Fighting Uruk-hai is a must and Saruman's Ambition can help a lot. You should consider Pillage of Rohan more as a bonus card and as such, 1 copy is enough.

Broad-bladed Sword could also help, but it may be too much. One more copy of Lurtz, SoI should find its way in there. He's powerful and can easily get you 2 tokens on Down to the Last Child, thus providing a site, not to mention a good possibility of a dead companion in the process.

I run a site controll deck(or at least try to)and attack on Helm's Deep is great. And I use race across the mark knowing if I'll lose a skirmish. Because you have to discard an Uruk and remove 3 tokens you'll need one alive.

Oh jdizzy have you tried putting in Boromir's Gauntlets? The card has saved me a million times. It is effective when being swarmed and your opponet ran out of twighlite. Bwahahahahah.....
