Title: What are the rarest common cards?
Post by: Legolis on January 11, 2011, 11:07:51 AM
Was kinda curious on what if any common cards are the hardest to find?

Hi!

as with rares and uncommons it has to be a common from the Hunters block. And it should be one that was not included in any starter decks. All pre Hunters commons should be quite easy to get. At least I could offer any of those without taking them from my playsets...

But I don't want to commit which one is the rarest of them...

Howdy,

I was thinking that Rise of Saruman commons would be the hardest to find. I guess I was meaning more from the movie blocks too. I don't know if it was luck or number of prints, but it seemed to take forever to get a 1C4 Battle Fury and 1C197 Threat Of The Unknown. If by chance they did print fewer of these I wonder if they picked out so many from each set to print less of?

It was probably just luck though,

I thought that was the way the dice rolled, I haven't thrown any out yet but was thinking about it lol. It is that or I will have to actually start playing some with all the extras!.

It's common, but I think he means it's one of those commons that is harder to find or trade for because people have fewer extras of them. Probably because most people have at one point put together a Gollum shadow side, and every Gollum shadow side should have 4 copies of it.

Or it was just one of those cards that he had trouble finding. I can't think of specifics, but I can recall being shocked at the lack of a random Common card that I was looking for in my collection one day.

Rider's Gear... Well I know it is an uncommon, but I only opened 2 of it from about 50 RoS boosters... Spirit of the White Tree was even worse.. I have exactly 0. Just for a comparison, I opened 5 Namarie and about 8-10 Halfling Leaf.

Well outside of Hunters Block for me it seemed that finding x4 copies of almost any common or uncommon from Helms Deep or to a lesser extent Ents of Fangorn is very hard because most people think that these sets sucked and they never bought much of them.

Funnily enough, I find it harder to trade for specific uncommons than rares. People usually only busy themselves to list their rares they have for trade and may not even bother keeping spare uncommons or commons at all.

In another example, the uncommons and common tactic cards from the star trek ccg expansion blaze of glory are highly sought after. It is the case with most rares from that game that their sole remaining use is to keep you warm during the winter, when you chug them into the fire.

Not so with these tactics. You don't see people trading them, because they are dead useful and fun to play with.

...and Towers block itself is way overlooked. FotR block is cool, but Towers is much more balanced, has much more interesting strategies etc. Finding Helm's Deep and Fangorn cards can be tricky, because they don't have as flashy singles as FotR block sets, but they have a higher general standard IMHO. Rant over.

Keep them commons and uncommons in your decks and not under your bed :)

That's actually one of the reasons that I started my website to sell cards. I had been selling my extra rares on eBay on I found that there was a good deal of interest in commons and uncommons as well (it makes sense, people need those cards for decks just as they would rares)

However it was prohibitively expensive to list EVERY card on eBay, so I thought I'd learn how to make a webstore.

I'm glad I did, it's been a lot of fun. I love helping to keep the game alive by providing a place for people to get those extra cards they need for their decks. Especially people like me who would prefer just to buy the cards they need rather than trade for them, because as soon I would trade a card, I'd find that I wish I had it back because I needed it in the next deck that I was making, but I guess that's half the fun of a "Trading Card Game" and why they don't call it a "Buying Card Game"

=)

Brings back memories of scouring online stores trying to find anyone with 1E commons/uncommons to sell. It would've been a *lot* easier to build my decks entirely out of rares. For me, posting a list on TCC was the way to go. Haven't really seen this problem in LotR.

1E C/U trading/selling is alive and well on Ebay right now. TCC has brought alot of players back to the game.

I don't know what the rarest common is, but I do know the rarest uncommon: Bloodlines' Southron Murderer. Boy, did I have trouble tracking copies of this sucker down. It is a great card for Evil Men decks, but it is very strange, how rare this uncommon has turned out to be...

especially because it seems like decipher over-produced WotR Block

I'd say Momentous Gathering would be close as well. I think I pulled 4x Southron Murderer from 2x boxes of bloodlines..

If we are talking Hunters Block, then there is the Simbelmyne-substitue Last Days of Our House. That one is harder to get than most Rohan RARES from TH-set!

Maybe we should open a 'Rarest Uncommon' thread now...
