Title: [ALIVE AND KICKING] GCCG Test Server
Post by: Kralik on January 18, 2011, 04:23:41 PM
It's here, it's here! ;D

A new server is up, and it has all of your old data. It's not official yet, because even though I've paid for the hosting, time will tell as to how reliable it is. Therefore:

 Save your games often.

Feel free to play games and see if you can crash the puppy! I mean, if it's going to crash, I want to know it now!

Windows Users:

Run Update Everything.bat

Mac/Linux

Run ./gccg_package update

Good luck!

Kralik: Do you know how to hide the ".gccg" folder on a Mac? I remembered how to "unhide" it but don't remember how to "hide" it back in the right place.

Otherwise, I am ready to go!

No clue. Usually .folders are hidden by default, and it should be in your user's home directory.

AND TO ALL OF THE REST OF YOU, I SAY...

A little heads up for those who might need a easy way to open the batch file. Open notepad first then drag and drop lotr. into it. Copy and paste the new text and your in.

It's not working for me. I still go to the old server even after changing the line.
It acts like some bin file wasn't remade after I changed the line? Is that possible?
I am running on Linux.

Ahh...  It seems to me that the .bat files are not used in linux. They have all sorts of windows stuff in them. Does anyone know where the server is defined in linux?
Title: Re: GCCG Test Server

Try adding --server gccg.lotrtcgdb.com to the command prompt. Or are you running the LotR file by clicking on the icon? If so, you could also edit that file with a text editor and do the same (add it before lotr.xml).

So some people told me that there was an old bug called, "Buying certain cards crashes the entire server!" Please let me know which cards these are so I can fix them. I've already fixed a couple by hand, and I'm seeing if wlk has any ideas on better ways to do it than I do.

Now's when we find out if the hosting I have is going to prove reliable, hence the "test" server. Seems it rebooted some time ago and GCCG needs to be manually kickstarted. I'll look into having it start itself automatically.

OK, we'll try it again with less tables and see how it runs.

Thanks Kralik for setting up the new server!

Thanks wlk for keeping the server up for as long as you did.

I know The Trees Are Strong would crash the server when I would try to buy it.

It looks like the server has rebooted a couple times recently without warning. This seems like it may be a problem with the hosting, not with GCCG itself. Please save often during your games! :-S

I added an alternate method to the top instructions that will be particularly helpful for Linux/Mac users. In the meantime... where is all of that feedback? I saw 16 on earlier today!

Thanks for getting this all going! I have not had any other crash issues with buying cards! I guess I should say this though, it has started to draw me in, in a way that I didn't expect. Now I am pulling real cards out and starting to try and figure this all out.  Eventually I will get it down enough to play some people without driving them crazy!

Thanks

The new server seems to work very well. I had a game with Apopas and everything was fine.

Thanks again Kralik for finding somewhere so quickly! It was amazing to see the response from everyone when gccg was offline, and results of that poll show still a lot of people enjoy this game in one way or another which is also good to see.

mine says working offline too, perhaps the server reset again?
Title: Re: [ALIVE AND KICKING] GCCG Test Server
Post by: secondbest on January 20, 2011, 01:49:51 AM
Server did reset again and doesn't accept people in.

I've played 6 games on the new server and everything seems to run rather smoothly. With 2 ceveats.

1.When the system crashes it saves games but when it reboots itself (it is almost impossible to tell the difference as a user but yesterday we figured it out because after reboot gccg doesn't restart and has to be restarted manually. If it crashes it is immediately back online) the games are not saved and lost forever.

2.Related to first issue system occasionally reboots itself and gccg is down for a period of time. Time frame being till Kralik manually kickstarts things. I think this is the issue we need to fix. We need an autostart.

Other than that people are pouring in and enjoying the game more than ever. Good times indeed...

Peace,
Kaan from gccg

Kralik, Good job with the server, is running even better than the another before, a card that I bought in the old serv and bugged the entire serv, inst bugging anymore, it was: 3U86  http://lotrtcgdb.com/pages/LOTR03086.html.
Now theres just this few things about server down and auto restart to fix.

Thanks very much to make it avaliable for all LOTR fans :D

See ya

I tried making the server autostart, but it got stuck in an infinite loop without a user (i.e. me) starting it. wlk says that the old server was always started manually. So really the issue will be either fixing it with my current hosting or moving it to another. I'll see what CS can tell me.

Kaan, did you find more crashing cards? I've taken care of quite a few. Let me know if you find others!

Update: GCCG is on a VPS (Virtual Private Server). That is, it's a server that I have full access to, but it is running within another server. "My" server has been stable, but the "parent" server has had issues. Last night my provider took it down for a couple hours for maintenance. We will see if it stays stable now... if not, I can switch to another provider, as I have only paid for the monthly vs. a standard yearly rate.

The good news? I figured out how to have GCCG automatically restart when it reboots!

Still, save often. ;)

Since I need to know how reliable the server is,
please post here whenever the server crashes.

Seems that the TTT card "Feathered" makes the server crash, it just happened when i tried to buy it.

Apparently so does another TTT card, "No Retreat"

That's it, im not bying any more cards today:D "Over the Isen"

I haven't been on gccg in a couple of months but I try to drop in every now and then. I had no idea there were server problems, I just tried logging on some time last week and it kept saying "working offline". Thanks for keeping this running fellows, I'm a huge fan of Decipher games and I'm glad to see others are too!
