So, any videogame nerds around our fellow forumers? I thought the game was pretty crappy at first, but kinda liked que story, and I'm glad debuffs FINALLY serve a purpose.
Anyone else here plays it?
-
Have it and played it. But my PS2 broke down. Dang that sucked. It was fun but I preferred Final Fantasy VII. The one when you're Vincent Valintine.
I think you missed one I in III. FFXIII is for PS3 and XBox 360 only.
I didn't play it as I don't own any of those consoles, but I loved FF X, X-2 and XII.

/me is all about Old School FF.
Final Fantasy IV-VI, anyone?
FFI for ... NES?!
I've heard it said before that there is a marked divide between the two classes of RPG gamers: those who think FFVI is the best and those who grew up on FFVII.
That being said, I have recently been trying out Chrono Cross for Playstation (1), and aside from the distracting 3D graphics, I am enjoying it so far.

Whats the difference in combat between XIII compared to any of the old FF's?
-
Here's a random boss fight from FFVI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyV0FW1lM9E&feature=related).

Hehe! I still dig out my old NES and FFI once every few years... How I loved this game (and still love to replay it!)

FFV has been my favorite of the old ones with its job system. Extremely flexible--lots of replay value!
S34--yes, I have played the first two Golden Sun games for GBA.

Well, I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan. I don't own the first II, never found them, but I have every single one (except 11, of course, what were they thinking?) that came out for SNES, PS1, PS@ and PS3. The most significant difference in battles is the "leader" system, which KINDA sucks, since you only have control of ONE of your party members (the Leader), and if s/he bites it, it's game over. However, the game makes constant checkpoints, so if you die, you respawn before the battle, instead of having to load and haul up an entire dungeon, which is kind of nice of them. Also, battles are INSANELY harder, and POST-INSANELY fast, meaning, you only control one character because, frankly, you'd go nuts trying to input commands for 3 characters at the same time. Even with one, it's usually easier to let the AI do the work, just imputing manually what you ABSOLUTELY NEED (the AI is prettry good, btw, except when it comes to buffs, which they overkill casting every single one available, and usually on uneeded characters, like Bravery on a caster). I also like the ranking system, which dictates the odds of getting drops from enemies, and the fact that stronger items lower the target time, so even if your all buffed up, 5-starring battles (to get good drops) is still tricky sometimes. On the down side, the upgrading system is just insane. Drops are more random than ever, (specially rare drops, good luck trying to farm Trapezohedrons for ultimate weapons), and everything costs a boatload of money to upgrade (money, let me add, that you do not have, seriously, you are basically a party of beggars most of the game, and when that finally changes, you can't even scratch the amount of money needed to upgrade the good stuff). Tip: NEVER sell any weapons/acessories (just not worth it), never dismantle anything unless you can't upgrade it anymore (even with catalysts) and won't need it, and early on, refrain from upgrading weapons, just not worth it. Upgrade acessories instead, as those you can move around the group.

So FM, which is your favorite of the three SNES games (IV/V/VI)? Have you played the translated V?
-
I like 4, the way the Dark Knight turns Paladin, but I don't like what they did, which is, in a way, similar to what I said I don't like about XIII on the upgrade system. Basically, their idea of a RPG is: "a game in which you put a lot of man hours to finish", so, instead of crafting subquests and a great plot, what they did was make the monsters get insanely difficult every time you swapped areas, to you basically ended up having to level like crazy a lot of the time, just to get by. Not nice.
5, on the other hand, is cool, with the "unique" (by then) Job System, but the plot simply didn't call to me. If I want to play with Jobs, I simply play Final Fantasy Tactics (which, btw, has nothing on Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle, it's actually a very poor Tactics game, but still nice to kill some time).
So yeah, easy pick for me, give me FFVI any day, heck, maybe even over VII, which is to say something! Who doesn't love imputing Aura Bolt and Fire Dance manually during a boss fight? Have you played Chrono Trigger, btw? WAAAAY better than Chrono Cross. And for a WTF kind of plot, meaning, VERY deep for a simple game, play the first Xenogears, for PS1.
-
I'm a FFVII man, but I haven't played any before that one. I might just try to get a hold on FFIV, V and VI, since just last month I pulled my old SNES from the attic.
-
I love final fantasy, probably my favorite VG series along with the Zelda games, FF III (the DS one) is randomly one of my favorites along with IV and V from the SNES
btw I'm also an old school FF guy like kralik

Chrono Trigger is often heralded as one of the best RPG's of all time. I've played it (beaten it) a few times, and since Chrono Cross got a 10/10 on GameSpot I thought I'd give it a try. Ocarina of Time is the only other game I remember with that score, and it was well deserved. Still withholding judgement on Chrono Cross. :P
FM, I read that with the Ogre series (maybe the N64 one) that the battles are automatic? Are the tactics still satisfying even with that?
-
You can also get Final Fantasy Anthologies for PS1, which comprises V and VI, PLUS a CG opening and ending.
-
Well, Tactics Ogre, for PS1, is not, you actually fight the battles, plus, a bajillion different endings based on what you did.
-
Oh have you ever heard of Golden Sun?
The Golden Sun franchise is epic. I specifically kept my Nintendo DS until Dark Dawn came out. That game wasn't as good as the first two, but it was still awesome.
