Title: OFFICIAL Vote: Galadriel, Lady Redeemed
Post by: hrcho on February 16, 2011, 06:40:41 PM
Discussion. (http://)

The poll will be open for 10 days. If you do not play LotR TCG on GCCG, please do not vote.

Have your say, folks!

Despite a deep hatred for cards like LoM or SoH, I hate to see cards banned. I had to vote no

I'm not sure how either of those cards have anything to do with LR. :P

sorry, that was an incomplete thought. I dislike LoM and SoH, but despite my distaste for those cards, I don't advocate banning them (at least not now). Likewise, despite a distaste for LR, I couldn't vote to ban her. However, since it has been made clear that the ban is for the house rules format then i guess my "no" vote is moot. Do what ever you need/want to do for a house rule format, heck it's house rules, the point is to make the game more enjoyable for the house, right? Good luck!

PS-I'm excited to see so much work going on for the game.  It is encouraging.

IMO unless there's some action (i.e. new stuff happening), LotR TCG is doomed to slowly die off. It's probably going to die off ANYWAY, but at least we can keep enjoying it for a while. Activity has been increasing what with all this debate and all.

I must say I am a bit confused now by the recent posts I've seen in several related topics. The way I understood it, we would be banning (depending on the vote) Galadriel, LR for the Movie Block on TLHH. That's how I asked the question.

From what I've seen recently, several other people have understood it as banning of Galadriel, LR for TLHH House Rules. Have those become the same?

Just a thought... Would it be acceptable for on GCCG to leave the existing Decipher-only formats like "Movie Block", etc. as is. We then add formats to the list that are the TLHH House Rules, so players can choose for themselves?

Example:
...
Movie Block (Decipher)
Movie Block (TLHH)
Poorman's (TLHH)
...

I think this is esentially what we have to do. New players (to GCCG) need access to the formats they are familiar with.

If that is possible, that seems like a great idea.  That would preserve the original format for people who want to play that online on GCCG while also allowing for the community to make changes and have a modified movie block format.

Plus, if very few people ended up playing official movie block (as many here would predict since Galadriel, LR is seen as such a problem), it would give the movie block purists the opportunity to choose for themselves to try out the LHH movie block instead of being forced to do it if they want to use GCCG to play online.  Nobody could complain that they are being forced to play in a specific format if they had both options.

Haters created more accounts to fight the decision...

It seems kinda weird that there are like 5 people or so that actually participated in the discussion about LR, and now there sre like 10 votes against banning her. Could please those that didn't say anything and are against banning her post their opinion in the discussion?

I was actually thinking that we need a better voting process so that each player votes with a post and we can see who voted for what. What's to stop someone from creating fake accounts to change the vote tally?

Update: I did find a way to grab the poll results from the forums database and see who has voted. There are no "fake" accounts involved, although there are some votes from members who admittedly do not play on GCCG or care about house rules.

I checked because of WKx5's remark on the 'haters.' I'm trying to see if I can install a mod to allow the poll votes to be displayed, as it is currently unsupported.

Ket, you should vote and I'm glad you did (even if you disagree). ;) I was referring to people who do not play on GCCG and voted anyway.

Seems that if LR is *not* banned, the people who want her banned might just form their own group anyway. First splinter checkpoint?

I dunno, it may be that some who want her to stay are simply opposed to any changes to the status quo--if that's the reason, then it seems contrary to the point of this house format.

i voted against banning her, and i didn't take part in any discussions. in my experience with gccg i've seen very few decks with LR. when i do see her, people are barely ever abusing her. and even if they are, it just really doesn't bother me that much.

its almost like there is a gentleman's rule already in place and that's enough for me.

i have no problems with her getting banned either though. as she stands, she is pretty NPE, and thats always a shame.

I'm away from boards from some time, but i eventually come back last days and hopefully i can still showing up to play a few games on GCCG.

Since Movie Block is the format i play the most and i did participate from some old discussion on this issue i find myself confortable to vote on this poll.

For reasons i mentioned in the past i voted "yes", bane the Blondie! I didn't face her often (by the way i play against her very very few times) so "in pratice" that is not a big problem either if she becames baned or not. I just feel that the card is disbalanced for movie block format.

Look carefully at the tables in the GCCG lobby.

Since this poll is just about over, does anyone have a preference as to which issue we cover next?

Maybe adding new formats, though I am still curious about Forces of Mordor.

I'm going to go ahead and release this as an update. We got 24 Yes votes and 11 No votes: Over 2/3rds. 2/3rds+ will remain the key number for future votes.

Thanks for participation, everyone! Remember that you can still play the "official rules" on GCCG if you want. :)

I posted the information below in the discussion thread about making changes.  I don't want to rehash the Galadriel LR debate or anything like that, I just want to set the record straight about what was actually played at worlds 2004 and what impact Galadriel LR had.

I used the internet archive to pull up the top 16 decks from worlds that year.  Worlds 2004 was the biggest tournament ever held with what we know as the official Movie Block.  Here is a summary:

1.  Rohan / Ninja Gollum
2.  Man Elf / Besiegers

3-4 (in no particular order)
Knights / Besiegers
Man Elf / Twilight Witch King with Morgul Orcs

5-8 (in no particular order)
Man Elf / Mixed Archery (southrons & uruks) – no conditions or possessions
Gandalf Gondor / Uruk Trackers – no conditions other than greed
Man Elf / Dunland
Elves with Galadriel LR & Eowyn LoI / Morgul Orc Swarm

9-16 (in no particular order)
Dauntless Hunter Hobbits / Southron Mumaks
Elves with Galadriel LR & Gimli & wounding / Southron Archery
Gondor Noble Leaders with Galadriel LR / Besiegers
Man Elf / 2 burden Easterlings
Elven Telepathy with Galadriel LR & Gandalf / Moria with Trolls & Sauron
Rohan / Moria Swarm
Shire Countryside Skirmish / Threat Nazgul
Dwarves / Twilight Nazgul

You'll note that Galadriel, LR wasn't in the top 2 decks, wasn't in the top 4 decks and was only in 1 of the top 8 decks.  Man Elf on the other hand made up half of the top 2, half of the top 4, and half of the top 8.  She was in 3 decks in the bottom half of the top 16.

Galadriel LR was in 4 total decks (none of which were the same deck - she allowed for diversity) while Man Elf (almost identical lists for it) was 5 decks from the top 16.

You'll also notice that none of the Besieger decks (3 of them) bothered to play Terrible as the Dawn even though it's super easy to put in.  A few decks didn't play conditions or possessions, but none of them were specifically teched for Galadriel LR.  So, when someone claims "Each deck from the top 16 either contained LR or was anti-LR" that just isn't true.  In fact, 10-12 of the shadows from the top 16 are terrible against Elves with Galadriel LR.

Another thing to note is that almost all of these decks were also the decks these players used on day 2 (sometimes with one or two cards different) to make day 3, so they were playing them against the entire field.  So, the top 16 at worlds that year weren't super concerned about Galadriel LR

Don't get me wrong, I still think LR is a broken card, but people need to stop quoting worlds 2004 as evidence of that.  If people want to use worlds 2004 as evidence they'd be better using it to argue for some of the key cards from Man-Elf to be x-listed.  In fact, something Decipher noted when they added Sam SoH to the x-list when Shadows came out was that he was on the watch list for some time for being too versatile and he was present in 15 of the day 3 worlds decks (sometimes 2 copies) and the only deck he wasn't in featured Sam Great Elf Warrior (Dauntless Hobbits).  So really, worlds 2004 provides strong evidence that if you errata or ban cards from Movie Block Sam SoH should be one of them (please note that I don't want to do that either, I'm just presenting data from the biggest tournament ever held with the official Movie Block x-list).

I saved all the lists in a word document so I'd be happy to post them if people are interested.
