I've found a nice mod that is similar to what I've seen on some other forums regarding "reputation" and such.
Basically, every individual post can now be rated as either good (helpful) or bad (lousy). If a post is considered really bad, you can have it hidden, grayed out, etc. Check your Profile information --> Look and Layout Preferences for:
Voted posts: What to do with posts scoring -5 or less?
As users post good posts, their reputation increases and the total score is added to their name. I've decided that I am going to use this to replace the current "gold" system as it is more flexible and allows nice records on individual posts. I've also decided that, although it was there on our beloved CC :'(, I'm not going to try and reduplicate the gold shop.
Feel free to mark up any posts you want, old and new! The buttons are Thumbs Up/Down in the middle of the header of each post. Expect that when I have time I will convert the current gold to rep points. You can still use the gold smiley to show appreciation.
-
oh man, please keep the :gp:... you can't take it away from us... it's so unfair... :(

I went ahead and gave you a thumbs-up for a demo. You can see now that you have "respect +1" at the side of your post. I'll be adding it your gold total there -- how about I just change the word from "respect" to "gold?" ;)
-
Thanks for the thumbs idea, ket.
-
Actually, I just figured this one out myself. Click the vote again.
-
OK, you guys decide regarding the wording. Gold? Reputation? Karma? Up to you. I've added the previous gold totals in (so, ket, that leaves Mager at -14).
I suppose you could try to 'sabotage' someone if you really wanted to... we'll just give it a go and see how it pans out. Be fair.
-
In this case it's not sabotage -- Everyone Knows he deserves what he gets.
-
I don't see any way of voting, is it supposed to be there right now?
-
click the thumb up/down to place your vote.
(please thumb up if this was helpful... j/k)
-
Steve, it's in the top-center of each post with a :gp: and
-
Oh, no, this is getting kinda like youtube... "thumbs up if you agree" and so on.

Oh, no, this is getting kinda like youtube... "thumbs up if you agree" and so on.
I've found the feature helpful on other forums as it helps with moronic posts (or posters).
-
Attached is a screen cap of what I see - there are no options for  or  or :gp:
Do I have an option checked maybe? I have signatures hidden, I know that much.
-
Okay, it doesn't seem to be signatures, I unhid them and I still can't see the stuff...
-
Are you using the forum default theme or another one?
-
Sigh, I'll miss the old theme (Lord of the Rings) and this one (Core) will take some getting used to, but I guess if it will let me have the full experience...
-
This is indeed the will of the Council
-
Oh, no, this is getting kinda like youtube... "thumbs up if you agree" and so on.
Just so you know, this was specifically banned on CC so I am sure we can do the same here
-
I'm not sure I catch your meaning -- care to elaborate?
-
Gold begging was banned, and if you did it, you got the Unholy Sword of Ridiculousness. Which meant your profile picture became a ferret
-
Incidentally, once/if I program a mod to show the results of polls, I can also do the same to show who added/subtracted from each post's rating.
-
But as it seems, the whole stuff with "thumbs up" isn't really that special. I mean, you give gold to someone after a succesful trade or if he makes like a really good comment. But now it's more like. "Yeah, I like this comment. Thumbs up."

Does this devalue the previous gold received by members? Yes. But you might as well embrace it at this point because it looks like it will be here to stay.
Also, I want to publicly thank Kralik for adding GCCG usernames to the Member List. If you are a member and you play on GCCG, please post your username in your profile.

I considered that, and also considering weighting the old gold 2x, 3x, 5x, etc. However, I think when it comes to trade it's better to establish a trade references post (and there are some) rather then just toss a stray :gp:.

The post that was reply #32 on this thread apparently rubbed people the wrong way, because my gp took a drop from 64 to 61 overnight. Ironically, the point of the post was that if someone had enough time, they could go around increasing or decreasing another member's gp, and manipulate that member's total to their advantage/disadvantage. To prove this point, I said "as thanks for this crazy system, I'm going to up Kralik's total to 200 gp". My intent was for people to realize how easily this could be abused by someone with a grudge against other members, but the irony was that no one realized what I was trying to say. I decided I better get rid of the 'offending' post, but interestingly enough, removing a post doesn't restore any gold lost. At this rate, my gold total is going to be like SmaugTheGoldHorder's. I don't really care terribly much about the gold, what bothers me is that nobody got my point, and instead of at least offering up a decent retort, or even a response, decided to be lazy #$&*@!, and merely whack :gp:.
-
Manipulation will be dealt with.

@!Gate Troll:
First of all, I am not the one who "thumbs down-ed" your recent post. Want to get that out of the way.
I appreciate that. I guess there's some good in everyone, eh? (j/k)
I believe that the way that your previous post, notwithstanding your personal credo of being "TLHH's Own Conservative Nutjob," came off as being a little, well, crazy. Rather than saying, "Wow, the new system is any easy way to circumvent the old karma system and damage or improve someone's gold stock," it came off as:
"thanks for this crazy system, I'm going to up Kralik's total to 200 gp." I think the best thing for everyone to do is to forget about the previous gold system and move on to the new system.
I tend to make points in a slightly back-#$&*@!-ward way. As for the whole 'personal credo' thing, I know that many times I come of as an arrogant asshat, and its a way of making light of myself so that people realize that I don't always take myself seriously.
!Trust me, I know that I can be a little...blunt (direct? rude? #$&*@!-ish?) and I suspect that my gold will suffer for the browbeatings I deliver.
To be honest, you tend to be right most of the time (although I didn't understand your hating on everything from Brett Favre to The Dark Knight, and I think the Death Star ethics debate was completely pointless because of the moral relativity that seemed to cling to everything) but I will 'cling to God and guns' until someone convinces me otherwise.
But the easiest way to avoid that is to lighten up in general. Maybe you should look at the new gold system as a reason to start your profile anew--you know, remove the Wonder Showzen gif from your profile and put a picture of Gandalf or whatever on there. Just a thought.
The little self-deprecatory assessment of myself is an attempt to lighten up. I try to avoid being an 'over-zealous bible-thumping Rush Limbaugh' sort of person, as most people of that sort can never see when they're wrong, and generally have the listening skills of a brick wall. The gif is ironic, because it's a great little representation of political correctness these days, and I find it quite entertaining in a childish sort of way.
I will also say that, in spite of my directness (bluntness? rudeness? #$&*@!-ness?), I don't hold any grudges against members here and even if there are people that I like less than others, it is not worth my time to spam people's gold piles.
-wtk
P.S., SmaugTheGoldHorder is the newest incarnation of "The New Guy" or "Sweetness 34." Sigh...
P.S., Number 2, Deleting the post shows that you do care about your gold count and your standing in this site. Just an observation.
Of course I do care about my standing. I don’t like being the #$&*@! anymore than I like being wrong. ;)
-
Just a reminder folks:
Please thumbs-down posts that are blatantly rude, unhelpful, obnoxious and so on. If someone asks a question in the Archives that seems obvious or posts a deck that you don't like, it's not a good reason to make them lose :gp:. In the future I will try to program in a way to see who clicked  and  for the record. It's just a matter of implementing the same thing for polls (votes) and tweaking the code.
-
I think Kralik meant that the mods/admins would be able to find out.
-
The Lord Of The Rings theme does not have the thumbs up/thumbs down buttons
-
It takes a bunch of manual code editing to add them. For now, I'm focusing on the main theme. I'm only keeping the others because a) Dain added them and b) Some people use them. ;)
-
Some people are abusing this feature.
I am making every effort to find out who they are. Thumbing down users because you do not like them is not acceptable.

Users should be free to thumb down / up whatever they want for whatever reason. Who cares about it, after all? I'm reading all posts, regardless of "thumb status".
Come on, if you can't state ur opinion on some lost board about a dead game, then where else would you be able to? lol stop taking thumbs up and down so serious.
-
*Disclaimer*
I haven't been the victim of -golding/rep abuse. Actually, I've gotten + :gp: for posts I have no idea why. That said,
Some people are abusing this feature.

I've noticed this as well. Unfortunately, if most users here are anything like me, :gp:has become somewhat a "rep" standard as is in other forums (even though it isn't supposed to be). And I have noticed that some users have constantly received -:gp: on their posts, even when they don't deserve them. Users shouldn't lose "rep" just because (as previously said) they hit someone the wrong way. I think that either it probably should be made clearer that :gp:=/=rep, or else that you can't gold people just because you don't like them (someone got repeated - :gp: for posting a deck). I KNOW all that has already been clearly stated. However, unfortunately, *some* people don't read that. But those people should be the ones , not the ones they've randomly decided to not like.
-
Maybe everyone should see who votes which way? I dunno.
-
I just don't want people to feel ostracised for being a noob
-

That sounds like a good idea..

It's on my "someday" list... Just has to be coded in manually.
-
That is a long list. I do hope it's after the Forum Shop, though, I've been waiting for this to go online forever! ;) (jk)

I get what you're going at, and it seems it's already happened, I've lost a total of 24 :gp: because someone went through and minused 7 of my decks, and while the decks where really crappy that shouldn't be an excuse.
