Title: Good Wingfoot and/or Lockbearer deck?
Post by: DáinIronfoot on August 26, 2008, 11:57:18 AM
I've been wanting to use these guys for a while, especially with all the unbound Hobbits available after Shadows. Anyone got a really good deck or two that incorporates them?

I have an idea about Wingfoot. His gametext says Each time the fellowship moves, you may wound a minion for each unbound Hobbit you spot, not each unbound Hobbit companion. So, are Fellowship block Hobbit allies considered unbound? If so, you can load a dozen of them and simply run with Wingfoot

I would say they are as the aren't ring-bound, but then again maybe there is something that states only companions can be ring-bound or unbound. It might even be a unwritten rule. But if not that would be sick, samething would work for Dauntless Hunter but maybe he is x-listed.

EDIT: Just checked Dauntless Hunter is x-ed. That may be why he is. Maybe hobbit allies are considered unbound .

Sorry to burst your bubble, but allies are not unbound nor ring-bound. Dauntless Hunter was X-ed when they started making unbound hobbit companions who weren't merry and pippin.

NOLINKWingfoot... Hobbits... how about running Hobbits? Lots of room for variation, but here's one that's hopefully halfway decent.

30 cards.

Sam, Bearer of Great Need w/ The One Ring, The Great Ring

1 Bilbo, Melancholy Hobbit (starting)
1 Fredegar Bolger, Fatty (starting)
1 Pippin, Wearer of Black and Silver (starting)
1 Aragorn, Wingfoot (pull with The Prancing Pony)
1 Farmer Maggot, Hobbit of the Marish
1 Frodo, Frenzied Fighter
1 Merry, Swordthain
1 Tolman Cotton, Farmer of Bywater

3 Bounder
2 Filibert Bolger, Wily Rascal

1 Daddy Twofoot, Next-door Neighbor
1 Radagast, Tender of Beasts
1 Robin Smallburrow, Shirriff #$&*@!-Robin
1 The Gaffer, Master Gardener
1 Uruviel, Woodland Maid

2 Birthday Present
4 Home and Hearth
1 Prized Lagan
1 There and Back Again

4 No Visitors

Additions/substitutions:

At its most basic: cancel/survive skirmishes, discard minions in regroup. No Visitors cancels skirmishes by transferring the relevant follower (not necessarily a Hobbit) to the support area. It can be retrieved by Bilbo, Daddy Twofoot, and Birthday Present. Filibert Bolger cancels fierce skirmishes by exerting the skirmishing Hobbit twice (easy for the bouncing Merry and Pippin). Prized Lagan makes minions lose fierce by adding threats.

Bearer of Great Need discards minions in the regroup phase by transferring his followers to the support area. Once high-vitality or wound-resistant minions are knocked out, Wingfoot cleans up the rest through direct wounding.

Burden removal is done with Home and Hearth. Counting allies there's a total of 9 Hobbits who can contribute, including 2 who can be replayed as needed. Hobbits also boost Sam's resistance (up to 17, although companions are expected to die off), and the followers can be transferred to him as a last-ditch effort at the final site (up to net +4). Only two of the five followers add burdens, so that should help keep burdens down.

For Ring-bearer protection, Frenzied Fighter can cancel his own skirmish, and then indirectly cancel the Ring-bearer's as well (or sacrifice himself). The Great Ring (especially in combination with Bounder) makes Sam more difficult to overwhelm. A timely use of There and Back Again can keep Hobbits alive just a bit longer.

Weaknesses include Bree Streets, Cavern Entrance, and of course bad draws. For the most fun, double move even when you're not really supposed to. 8-)

Hope that helped a bit, and feel free to tear it apart!

Drop him and some Westfarthing Businessmen and go to town. Hobbits won't die, heal all back up and Aragorn drops everything on the double!

4 Businessmen, Merry, Loyal Companion, Pippin, WoBaS and Sam, Great Elf Warrior oughta do it. ;D 6 Unbound Hobbits for Gorn and 8 Hobbits for Sam (assuming correct RB is used).

Why not start Bilbo, melancholy Hobbit, Either Fatty, or Pippin and Merry Horticulturalist. That way you can exert Merry to get that other Hobbit companion out asap . Just a thought.

Besides no visitors how does he cancel his own skirmish?

Also to be sure Frenzied Fighter is still consider Ring Bound regardless even tho he is the only version of Frodo you can use as a regular companion, correct?
