Title: Need Help Cutting Down on My FPs Archery Deck...
Post by: The Dewk on March 10, 2011, 02:25:42 PM
Hello. I'm quite new here, but from what I've seen so far, there's a fair amount of lotr tcg experts around. Many of them are willing to give advice...

I've got a elven archery deck that's way too big. Any ideas..?

Galadriel, Bearer of Wisdom
The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles

Legolas, Archer of Mirkwood (starting fellowship)
Aegnor, Elven Escort (starting fellowship)
Aragorn, Heir of Elendil
Arwen, Queen of Elves and Men (x2)
Ordulus, Young Warrior
Lorien Swordsman OR Glofindel, Revealed in Wrath

Calaglin, Elf of Lorien
Dinendal, Silent Scout
Orophin, Lorien Bowman
Rumil, Elven Protector
Forests of Lothlorien (x2)

Elven Bow (x4) (it was a sad day indeed when I found out I couldn't use 4 elven bows from the fellowship set, and another 4 from the two towers set... lol)
Elven Sword (x4)
Bow of the Galadhrim
Legolas' Sword
Nenya (x2)
Gwemegil
Aiglos
Ranger's Sword (x2)
Aragorn's Bow (x2)
Flaming Brand (I understand there is some kind of restriction on these, only one per deck? But if it's banned altogether, then I replace it with Knife of the Galadhrim)

Company of Archers (x2)
Double Shot (x3)
Gondor Bowmen (x2)
Might of Numenor (x2) or
Athelas (x2)
Swordarm of the White Tower (x3) (it gives my Aragorn +4 for free!)

The Splendor of Their Banners (x2)
The Tale of Gil-galad
The Saga of Elendil (x2) or
The Last Alliance of Elves and Men (x2) or
Alliance Reforged

This deck is meant to shoot 'em up, and if that fails, have Aragorn-The-Defender-Plus-One-Tank fight what gets through. You're probably thinking, "Aragorn is quite vital to this deck, why is there only one copy of him..?" I plan on wagering a fair amount of twilight at the beginning, so that I can lay down my site 1, which is The Prancing Pony.

Another thing I'm wondering- is the allies/Forest of Lothlorien combo worth it?

It's just the free people side alone has over 50 cards in it!  :o Please help

I would totally cut out all the pumps and Aragorn. Aegnor, Elven Escort and Legolas, Archer of Mirkwood are significant enought to beat down anyone who survives.

Forget Ordulus and Glorfindel (unless you start him) and use Cirdan, The Shipwright if you are concerned with beatdown. Give him Banner of Elbereth to draw more. Cut the Elven Sword's. Alliance Reforged is overkill.

Also, your ploy to play The Prancing Pony* won't work as its a FotR site 1, and movie uses RotK sites.

Ok. Let's start from the beginning...

Remove:

Ordulus, Young Warrior (what's the point? Take Gil-Galad instead)
Forests of Lothlorien x2 (you're mostly a wounding Freeps, minions shouldn't survive and if they do, you have Aiglos and Gil-Galad)
Elven Sword x3 (just take one for Galadriel and use Aegnor to win skirmishes)
Legolas's Sword (Long-Knives of Legolas are a much better choice)
Nenya (1 copy is enough)

I'd also remove ALL Gondor cards (including Aragorn). You can focus on elven archery and have Aegnor help you win skirmishes if needed.

You can check out my deck (http://lotrtcgdb.com/forums/index.php/topic,6289.msg66062.html#msg66062). It's also quite large, but the Freeps play almost everything they have and the Shadow is very fast so I don't have any drawing problems.

Also, what did you mean by this? Wagering twilight? You do know that bids decide who goes first? And that you bid burdens?

Hm... cutting Aragorn and his stuff would cut like 20 cards. Wow. (And the fact that my prancing pony plan has been undermined by some rule I find lame kind of is the clincher on that one I guess).

I've consider using Cirdin, The Shipwright, but he won't be nearly as useful here as he would be in another deck, cuz this deck only has a total of 5 elven events. Is he still worth it?

And thanks for the recommendation to cut the Elven Swords out of the deck- they'd only go to companions that aren't supposed to be participating in skirmishes anyway. Good call.

Gil-galad... eh... he seems like one of those companions that needs a lot of other cards to go with him to function well. But perhaps that's just me.

Oh, yes, yes, I am aware that one bids burdens, that was a typo on my part. lol.

Sweet. Anything else?

Oh, aren't Long-Knives of Legolas in a non-movie block? Or is there something new I should know?

Long-Knives of Legolas* are movie legal. They were reprinted in Black Rider.

Gil-Galad, EHK is immense in a wounding deck as he finishes off any surviving minions making moving easier.

Welcome to the boards. Here's my recommendation. At 37 cards, it is a little bit big...

Isildur, Bearer of Heirlooms with The One Ring, Answer to All Riddles
Glorfindel, Revealed in Wrath
Arwen, Queen of Elves and Men

Aragorn, Elessar Telcontar x3
Legolas, Greenleaf x3
Cirdan, the Shipwright x2
Figwit
Sam, Son of Hamfast

Elrond, Herald to Gil-Galad x3

Aragorn's Bow x3
Elven Bow x3
Vilya

Gondor Bowmen x4
Shadow Between

Double Shot x4
Might of Numenor x3
Company of Archers x3

Frankly, I don't think these types of decks are really that great because of the potential of getting hosed if they can't through out archery (Spies of Saruman, Isengard Warrior, or maybe just a bad hand). Rainbow Wounding is much better (just as bland, though).
