Title: SFTF - TAP

If I burn Theoden, TAP with SFTF, does Theoden's ability triggers? So to put it in a more simple way is place a companion in the dead pile = kill a companion?

I asked this question from someone on GCCG (can't remember who), and he said yes, but I'm not so sure. I thought killing has to do something with lethal wounds/overwhelming  ???
