"Remember that time the platform was lowering into the fire pit and we were like "goodbye" and you were like "no way!" and then we were like "we pretended to murder you"... that was great.

What is glados?

you talking about Portal? the best game ever?
if i was a gamer, i'd have some favorite quotes for you. but i'm not, so i've only played a couple levels with my friends. i should get a PC version for my laptop. that way i can play it at school instead of listening to my obnoxious engineering instructor.

I cannot wait for Portal 2. I thought the first one was just so fantastic. One of the best parts about the game is that the only voice in the game is Glados, the machine running the program. But instead of being some terrifying booming voice, it is Ellen McLain, who is able to sound friendly throughout the entire game despite being one of the most diabolical villains in video game history.
"Please be advised that a noticeable taste of blood is not part of any test protocol but is an unintended side effect of the Aperture Science Material Emancipation Grid, which may, in semi-rare cases, emancipate dental fillings, crowns, tooth enamel, and teeth."
"Please note that we have added a consequence for failure. Any contact with the chamber floor will result in an 'unsatisfactory' mark on your official testing record, followed by death. Good luck!"
"Unbelievable. You, [subject name here], must be the pride of [subject hometown here]!"
"That thing you burned up isn't important to me. It's the fluid catalytic cracking unit. It made shoes for orphans. Nice job breaking it, hero."
I also love the song "Still Alive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6ljFaKRTrI)," which plays during the credits.

Neuro toxin... so deadly.... chok...ing ..... HAHHAHA kidding!

My wife picked me up the Orange Box for the 360 last week when someone traded it in at her work. So many good moments in Portal
-
Can't forget the turrets either as they sweetly try to get you killed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKVuPUY9D-A).
"I don't hate you." *lol*
Portal 2? Breaking her heart was a huge success. Now we just have to steal her cake.

I'm surprised that I had never seen or played this game... but I picked up the demo yesterday and had a lot of fun playing both it and Portal Flash (http://portal.wecreatestuff.com/). What is nagging me to death is that I know I have heard the tune of Still Alive somewhere before, but I cannot for the life of me figure it out. Most likely a parody of some sort, but the ones I pulled up on YouTube to check seem like junk.
-
There are radios playing the tune all around the game, but its a samba version. Maybe that's what has got you thinking.
-
Had anyone seen Cube? There is a sequel and prequel too...watch them in the order that the movies were released.

I liked Cube, but the others were just bad, especially HyperCube.
Thank you for helping us help you help us

I recognized the tune before ever playing the game or hearing the original song. Any ideas of a well-known/circulated parody I might have heard?

Funny that you would bring that up -- I have seen it and was thinking about it in reference to Portal.
Is anyone here thinking of buying Portal 2 on Steam and doesn't need the Portal 1 license? ... :hey:
-
Isn't there a companion sphere in the hard mode?
-
Finished it! Test chamber 19 dragged on for ages...
I was surprised to find in chamber 18 that I exploited a bug and completed part of the chamber incorrectly/out of order. When I did, certain things changed without me ever having done them myself. Ha!

My favorite:
"...all your other friends couldn't come either because you don't have any friends--because of how unlikeable you are. It says so right here in your personnel file:
Unlikeable. Liked by no one. A bitter, unlikable loner whose passing shall not be mourned.
SHALL NOT BE MOURNED.
That's exactly what it says. Very formal."
-
It also says you were adopted
-
If you have the PC/Steam version like I do, here are an extra 40 maps!
http://portalmaps.wecreatestuff.com/
The Flash Version is a fun game on its own as well.
-
It also says you were adopted
So that's funny, too.
Reminds me of another dig:
"Hellooooooooo!
That's you! That's how dumb you sound! You've been wrong about every single thing you've ever done, including this thing. You're not smart. You're not a scientist. You're not a doctor. You're not even a full-time employee! Where did your life go so wrong?
Though sometimes simplicity works best:
"That thing is probably some sort of NOLINKraw sewage container. Go ahead and rub your face all over it."

Also found this backstory interesting:

lol I love that xkcd. xD
-
I love Portal!
I actually know that woman who voices GlaDOS too!

Don't disappoint me... or I'll make you wish you could die

Has anyone besides me played the "Flash" mappacks or Portal: Still Alive for XBox? The levels are substantially harder and longer than the original game. I'm going to enjoy it for quite a while before thinking of Portal 2 (especially since my impulsive brother will probably buy it).
-
Kralik: I'm so happy with how much you seem to enjoy the game. It never dawned upon me that you would be a [video] gamer, but this one does fall right up your alley.
-wtk
-
Surprising that you would think that! I don't have as much time anymore to play video games, but oh have I played...!
-
To be more specific, I saw you as a classic gamer who maybe reminisced and put a little time into an NES or SNES game or something, but never got into the current gen systems.
-wtk
-
SNES is current gen, right? Riiight?
You may be correct in your assessment.
How about a current-gen game that brings even the best gaming systems to their knees yet has no "modern" graphics? Dwarf Fortress (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/). Rather incredible undertaking.
EDIT: Actually the graphics are quite good compared to most roguelikes.
-
For the record, GlaDOS is mean, mean, mean in Portal 2. I had the chance to watch my bro play it a bit yesterday.

I'm a Potato (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AsZ5XyMQY0&feature=related)...?

Oh. Hi. How are you doing? CUZ I'M A POTATO. XD
Classic.
