Post by: Stormcrow on May 08, 2011, 09:49:03 PM
Here's my attempt at an ent tank deck.

Frodo, Protected by Many
Isildur's Bane

Gandalf, Leader of the Company x1
Radagast, The Brown x1
Treebeard, Keeper of the Watchwood x1
Skinbark, Fladrif x1
Ent Horde x1
Huorn x1
Erland, Dale Counselor x1
Jarnsmid, Barding Emissary x1
Saved From the Fire x4
The Flame of Anor x4
Terrible and Evil x4
Traveled Leader x4
Glamdring x1
Wizard Staff x1
Hobbit Sword x1
G for Grand x4
Ent Draught x1
Pallando, Far-travelling One x1

I would appreciate any tips or comments.

Thanks,
Stormcrow

I don't mean to be rude but this deck will get slaughtered.  Your highest strength companion gets to a maximum of what 14?  The amount of pool you'll be pumping out each turn is going to allow you to be easy prey for cards like the Twilight Witch-king and anything else.  Your companions for the most part are weak and the shadow sides in expanded tend to be unbelievably nasty.  Also who are you starting, and why use Isildur's Bane?  I'd go with either The Great Ring, or AtAR

As its Expanded you might as well run the a large starting fellowship

Merry, In the Bloom of Health
Pippin, In the Bloom of Health
Quickbeam, Hastiest of all Ents
Skinbark, Fladrif
Ent Horde
Host of Fangorn

Gandalf, Returned pulled with a Wizard is Never Late means you have filtered about 10 cards. You can Saved from the Fire Quickbeam, HoaE for either Treabeard, KotW or Enraged Shepherd.

Then you have options. Pipeweed for healing and burdens, or Gandy support with the Flame of Anor or Servant of the Secret Fire. If you prefer conditions, Not the First Halfling is sweet given all the vitality you have.

Keep Radagast, The Brown so you can run. With all the filtering you should have pretty good Shadow card setups. I recommend Underground Lurker exerts, one of my favourite Expanded shadows, which also happens to be this decks worst nightmare.

How does that starting fellowship work, exactly? I tried to do the math, and it simply does not add up. I think perhaps you're using the wrong Quickbeam.

Then it should be

Merry, In the Bloom of Health
Pippin, In the Bloom of Health
Farmer Maggot, Hobbit of the Marish
Quickbeam, Bregalad
Skinbark, Fladrif
Ent Horde
Host of Fangorn

Should I start with Gandalf, Leader of Men? I could use another companion as well.

Go with the ents in the starting fellowship.  There are about 8 companions in there and starting Gandalf only allows a maximum of 3 comps other than Frodo.

Which ents would you use for a larger starting fellowship?

Although some cards spot Gandalf to play, such as Saved From the Fire and G for Grand.

Then it should be

Merry, In the Bloom of Health
Pippin, In the Bloom of Health
Farmer Maggot, Hobbit of the Marish
Quickbeam, Bregalad
Skinbark, Fladrif
Ent Horde
Host of Fangorn
Those.  If you're worried about not getting Gandalf in time you could run 3 or so.

Yeah, run several Gandalf's with A Wizard is Never Late and Radagast, the Brown. Burn one of the trees, Quickbeam or Skinbark to pull the rest of the cards you need.

Gandalf, Returned pulls Glamdring, Foe-beater or a copy of Shadowfax, GatM, whichever you need more. GatM and Foe-beater keeps G for Grand working.

If you must have Gandalf starting, use Leader of Men with the two In the Bloom of Health hobbits and Quickbeam, Bregalad. Burn him for your setup.

I realize this is an older post, but the wording on reducing twilight cost to play those ents confused me. The text says "-x for each ent OR unbound hobbit you can spot", therefore, wouldn't you have to choose between spotting either ents or unbound hobbits or can you spot both ents AND unbound hobbits?
