Title: Smeagol Poor Creature Question
Post by: mille1212 on July 14, 2011, 09:12:07 PM
I am still trying to work through the basic mechanics of the starter sets that I purchased.

I have Smeagol, Poor Creature (skirmish: discard a card to make him strength +1).  I also have Don't Look at Them (discard three cards to wound a minion once or twice if a Nazgul).  If I play Don't Look at Them and wound a Nazgul twice, do I also get a +3 bump to Smeagol for the same cards (+1 per card)?

I am thinking yes.  Just want to make sure.

No, you don't. Here's a quote from the comprehensive rules:

"Each phase action must be completely performed before another phase action can be performed. Phase actions cannot be combined."

He's right. You can't combine actions.^
You probably should check the rules before you ask a simple question like that.

Thank you.  You're right, I probably should have been able to find the answer to that question in the rulebook.  Thanks.

Doom:

The dude is just learning how to play the game.  Cut him a break.  I'm sure you had plenty of noob questions when you started playing, as we all did.  Hope you're enjoying the game so far, mille1212.

No worries, I don't have a problem with noob questions if someone's just starting. But the faster someone learns to use the rulebook, the better. ;)

By any chance is Doom the spawn of another member on the boards?

He's not me if that's what you are asking. In fairness, I've never told someone that their question was "simple" or implied that the question was "stupid." I just get pissed when the same questions keep showing up. In general, the resources are available.

:gp: to Stormcrow for answering the original question though.

No, I'm not a minion of another member. Though you would never know it if I was.
And I wasn't saying the question was bad or anything. But as I said, the rulebook is kind of helpful...
@mille, sorry if it looked like I was bashing you. No intent though, really.

Apology accepted.  Using a print medium like this message board, I have on more than one occasion come across in a way that was not intended.  Both sides have a valid point on this issue though and I shall do my best to be diligent in finding my answers with the available resources.

Truth be told, this site has been a wonderful asset for me, so I cannot complain in any shape or form.  The unofficial rulebook, the search function, the general knowledge of the members of this board, etc. have been a tremendous help to me personally.  I would to thank the powers that be for making it available.

I've only delved into the starter sets so far,  I have one of each up through the Mount Doom set.  I've had loads of fun playing with these and I've gotten to spend some great time with my kids in doing so.  It's been a win-win for me.  Really...

I look forward to building out my collection though and I am in the process of doing so.  Then, I can start building my own decks.  I may just have fun beefing up the starters to 60 cards for awhile...  We'll see...
