Title: Creating SdA Cards
Post by: FM on September 05, 2008, 08:19:51 AM
Related (well, kind-of) question: does SdA allow for CREATING cards in it in any way?

Edit: Title.

I would THINK you could simply by adding them to SdA.xml, but they'd lack pictures.

'Twould be AWESOME to use it for testing some of my DCs. :hey:

That's what I had in mind, actually. Creating DC sets. I'd even be inclined to MAKE SdA work, if it'd mean we'd be able to play with our DCs.

I've tinkered with the idea of creating a new SdA.xml, with all of the promos, but people have told me that it would mess things up for those who don't have it. Furthermore, the set names are predefined and cannot be changed.

However, I think that if you want to make your own DC sets it would be best to do it in Lackey. It's really not that hard -- it just involves filling in the stats and game text in a spreadsheet. The nice thing about this approach is that you can have the base LotR Plugin, with all of the real sets, and then distribute the dream card sets separately. Furthermore, if you wanted to play with a friend who didn't have the data files for your dream cards, they would be automatically downloaded when you connect to them.

I'd love to put up some Lackey tutorials, but I'm waiting for a) an updated LotR plugin with all of the new cards and fixes and b) a certain program bug to be fixed by Trevor that can affect gameplay with proxy servers (i.e. when not forwarding ports). Well, and also c) time. ;)

Here's a sample spreadsheet of what you would use to create your own sets for Lackey. Dream card sets would essentially be "add-ons."

What should I use to edit the Xml files in SdA? Every time I edit it with Notepad it crashes...  :-S

I've heard that if you edit the SdA.xml file, it will cause games to crash when you connect to other players. Nevertheless, use Wordpad or something better such as Notepad++.

Yeah but only if they don't have the same card make sure you save the original.

Both people have to have identical Xml's for the game not to crash.

Haven't tried notepad plus.  Try out Crimson editor.  I love it.
