Title: boromir, lord of gondor
Post by: Yanko Markovic on September 07, 2008, 06:54:55 PM
ok, back from a busy week! the thing is: I found a store near my home selling LOTR (very rare in my country) and they had, at least 20 FOTR starter decks for, um, a bit less than $1 each, so I bought 4, and I got boromir, lord of gondor. Since I am not learned in FOTR block, I wondered what can he be useful for... apart from the obvious (anti-overwhelming, ranger, that can be a bit useful), can you tell me a strategy in which I can use him if there is? (Ya know I love boromir, and I got the oldest one, which is great for me)

As far as I know, in Fellowship block Boromir was just about the most useful beatstick available. Give him Blade of Gondor and let him work his stuff.

I remember giving him Armor so I could just laugh at the Balrog's face. Also, I used to make him defender +X a lot with that combo, and just grinded through the most crowded sites.

Thats old school! Definately how you use him!

Pairing him with some of his newer stuff makes for awesome combos as well. Imagine this:

With just Boromir LoG and his Sword of Boromir, you have a 9/3 damage +1 companion that is overwhelmed only when the enemy reaches 27 strength AND can jump from skirmish to skirmish as long as you have unbound Hobbits around him and other [Gondor] cards on him (cheap ones like NSttS, Ranger of the North, Boromir's Cloak, Flaming Brand, the Seeing Stones, Athelas and Kingsfoil...all kinds of possibilities!).

Put Armor on him, as FM pointed out, and perhaps some vitality boosters like The Saga of Elendil and Ranger's Cloak, and you have a companion that is virtually impossible to kill and takes on multiple minions without any fancy-shmancy defender bonuses.

Man, I need to take a second look at this guy. More potential there than I originally thought. =P~

The correct way is this.

Boromir.
1 Armor
1 Flaming Brand
1 Blade of Gondor
1 The Last Alliance of Elves and Men

1 dead Balrog, several dead nazzies (win = deathness w/ d+2 bonus vs Nazzies) and a bunch of dead Goblins/Uruks.

Mmm, yes, beside the obvious choices, The Saga of Elendil and The Last Alliance of Elves and Men bring up some good memories

Regarding Boromir, Lord of Gondor:

I was trying out my Horn of Boromir Sample Deckbuilding List below, and after playing for a while, it dawned on me that the deck was broken. Reason being, it uses Swordsman of the Northern Kingdom x3, but the deck includes no Rangers (Boromir SoD is NOT a Ranger) >:(. I'm thinking it was a misprint, and they meant to use Boromir, LoG.  :-k
