Technically I don't think this round has begun yet, but since I know the new Incog's merely getting his ducks in a row...sign me up! Hopefully I won't get dead this time.

And no, I don't know who it is. Clever fellow used an e-mail address I don't recognize to contact me. :ninja:

What in the...?!

Okay, NK: I do not approve of your methods! Might be the Chicago way and all that, but....

Alright, as far as the "clues" go, I got a PM from Incog this morning. All it had was this.

SRI

??? My first thought is Sri Lanka, but that doesn't make a ton of sense.

I'm assuming we all got something, so check your PM inboxes. He/she didn't say anything about not posting the clue, so unless one of YOU did, I think we can share. I think the "Decipher the clues. Put your heads together." might even be encouraging that.
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Ulmo on August 08, 2008, 07:27:07 AM
This is what I got.
MISS US

First thing that comes to mind is falling down stairs.  Need the other clues though.

Was lem0n a cop? I think NK called the last slot. It's me, Ulmo, GoG, Urukfear, and NK, isn't it?

If not...then yeah, that's probably not good. :-\
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: lem0nhead on August 08, 2008, 07:46:31 AM
Nah i was never a cop i just posted that i thought i knew who it was and it seemed really obvious and NK got a bit ahead of himself arrested me then killed me!
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Elendil!Urukfear on August 08, 2008, 12:45:26 PM
Mine was
SAT REM
Nothing comes to mind at the moment, maybe we have to put all of them together and un-scramble the words, he mentioned deciphering too, does anyone know how to read a cypher?
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Elendil!Urukfear on August 08, 2008, 12:54:49 PM
if it is an unscramble, we've got

satremmissussri soo far...    maybe not.

EDIT: wait a minute, i see Satre, Missuri. Isn't there such a place as Satire, Missouri?
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: DáinIronfoot on August 08, 2008, 12:58:56 PM
I think we should probably wait until we have input from the others before we try to put anything together. Until they're we're REALLY grasping at straws.

So...GarrisonofGondor? Nappy? What did you guys get?
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Elendil!Urukfear on August 08, 2008, 01:04:35 PM
I looked up satire and it means run-away, Also it says missus, sooooo, run-away missus.         He could mean shieldmaiden.

CAN SIMS, why is Dain's the only message with out a subject. Everyone else has 2 words, and if theirs are like mine one was the subject of the PM and the other was the actual message hmmm.
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: DáinIronfoot on August 08, 2008, 04:43:49 PM
Jeez, totally missed that! :cpunch:

Mine does have a title: "ME". The message is "SRI".

I guess that means the titles for the others are "MISS" and "SAT"?
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Ulmo on August 08, 2008, 04:45:22 PM
My subject was CATCH with MISS US as the body.  Good catch NK (no pun intended :P)
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: DáinIronfoot on August 08, 2008, 04:52:16 PM
CATCH, ME, and CAN?

CATCH ME if you CAN? Incog said that two posts ago. More significant than a simple phrase, perhaps?

Crooked cop NK throws lem0n's #$&*@! bullet riddled corpse over the bridge into the river for the proper burial a tool deserves.
:gp: for the laughs. It'd be funny if you could send the entire TLHH into the river until by process of elimination, it's just NOLINKIncognito and NappyKorn for a final showdown. Don't have a town left but at least you got that #$&*@ in the end.
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: NappyKorn on August 08, 2008, 05:05:29 PM
for some reason the first thing that comes to mind is that movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio where he is pretending to be things he is not LOL. Doubt it has much significants, but fits as Incognito is simple TLHH member pretending to be a killer
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: NappyKorn on August 08, 2008, 05:20:08 PM
well I have an Idea but we need to work together for this, If dain is correct and everyone sublects spell out CAN ME IF YOU CAN then perhaps that is also the order the PM's meassge need to go to start out. So first who's subject was CATCH that one should be first . Then perhaps we have to unscramble the words after that.

Well GoG had CATCH and his body was Miss us so maybe we need to start with his. Who's Subject was ME?
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Ulmo on August 08, 2008, 05:23:28 PM
That's what I was thinking , but we need to hear from Urukfear and GG first to see if they posted the subject of the message.  Already trying to unscramble, not much luck so far.
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)

Well GG already mentioned his sublect was Catch with the message being Miss Us .

for inst.: Me - SRI, that could be the person's enitials. catch - miss us, that could have been from a previous game about someone who got assassinated cuz they were missed, or it could be incog. But I'm not  sure how that fits. But anyway...

Okay, got my last post updated with the correct titles and times. Looks like Incog went in order.

Now the trick is, do we put them all together, or is each an individual clue? Could it be some sort of Caesar cipher type thing, or a word scramble? Jeez, could be anything.

I'll work on this and see if I come up with anything obvious. They all actually make some sort of sense (as words) except for "SRI".

Well the deadline is quickly approaching and I have no idea to be honest but with all the reference to miss madam and such I will protect Shieldmaiden so my protection doesn't just go to waste and maybe I get lucky . I think however Ulmo's point is the most valid . Hope one of us is right.

I approached the house slowly, carefully. I could see him through the window, at his computer as he always was, probably trying to "out-spam" sick of palantirs. I reached for the door... But then I saw the wires, the warning system installed. I heard the voices inside, the voice of Officer Ulmo.

Foiled!

Ruined!

Curse the Ulmo! Curse him forever!

I laughed at my self.

But it gave me an idea...

Yes. The 34th of 18... He shall be next.

I laughed again, even as he screamed in the back of my mind.

You will never get away with it!

Oh yes I will. Why so serious? Heh heh.

Tuesday.

Just to be sure I'll protect on of you guys, I protect Ulmo.

P.S. Guys I am sooooooooooooooo sorry for not protecting anyone, i wuz busy all saturday and sunday so i couldn't do anything, but if i had, i would have protected shieldmaiden for the same reason NK did.

Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: NappyKorn on August 11, 2008, 02:01:54 AM
Well alot of cops wouldn't make the arrest here on TLHH. Instead they would just kill the suspect and toss him in the river. At least that is what I would do if that situation ever came my way of course.
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: DáinIronfoot on August 11, 2008, 07:32:51 AM
Let's try not to kill any more innocent bystanders, eh? :P Arrests are more than sufficient.

Good call on the clue, NK. That seemed almost TOO easy.

You'll have to do better than that, Incog.

maybe it was to easy because he didn't want M64 to be killed because Incognito is M64. I would make the arrest myself but if wrong I'm gone. If anything else points to M64 imho I will take the chance though .

It had been hours since I had crept away from the home of Menace64, the same protection around him as "Mister" Lurtzy had. This time it was Officer NappyKorn's voice I had heard, but made off before anyone noticed me.

Curses!

Foiled again!

Too easy. Too many clues in one. Had it been the reference to The Joker's genius? The subtle hint of Gollum, !Menace's long-time portrait? Or the numbers?

Should have left out the numbers.

Oh, did I type them aloud?

YOU! Your doing!

Should have known.

Try and stop this then...

I feel funky. Or perhaps mieldy.

2 days.

Post by: NappyKorn on August 13, 2008, 05:56:44 AM
If I had a wild guess I would say protect me, LOL. The YOU! Your Doing! part makes it seem like perhaps he is targeting the person that last 'foiled' his plans maybe. Maybe he feels funky by going after a cop this time as well. If nothing else comes up I will be forced to protect myself .
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: DáinIronfoot on August 13, 2008, 08:07:45 AM
What the heck is "mieldy"? ???

I won't argue with your reasoning, NK, especially since I have little else to go on yet. But I'm not entirely sure he's referring to you. This Incog seems to argue with himself, or at least some other little voice inside. That's how I have read it so far, at least. Go back and re-read it and maybe you'll see what I mean. It's weird, but seems to be some sort of other personality or something whenever the font changes.

Anyway, the first thing that comes to mind with "funky" is Funkytown and, and "funky" as a term that appears often in music. Heck, "funk" is an entire genre of music.

But again..."mieldy"? Is that like "moldy" or something?
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Ulmo on August 13, 2008, 11:25:14 AM
Miel is French or Spanish for honey - SM?
Miel is a village in Germany - Olorin85, anyone else from Germany?

I am liking the duality of Incog, very gollumish.  "Curses.  Foiled again." sounds so familiar though...
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)

Mieldy, Maybe it could be unscrambled?
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Incognito on August 13, 2008, 03:25:36 PM
The officers were gathered at the police station trying to "unscramble" the clues left for them when Officer DainIronfoot suddenly burst in.

"Hey guys! I found this cassette recorder on my doorstep when I stopped by the house for doughnu--um I mean for coff--uhhh I mean for lunch."

The others nodded understandingly as Officer GarrisonOfGondor pushed play.

The quality was somewhat lacking. A rushed and garbled voice, oddly familiar, came out of the speaker.

Listen, I don't have much time. There is more to the clues than just the words as written. You have to take the first...

Another more menacing voice suddenly cut in midsentence, very different from the first yet strikingly similiar in some ways.

Aaaagh !be GONE!

Pardon him, dear Officers. I am not sure what he may have told you. I will have to go back and listen for myself.

While I have this opportunity however, I hear you have been having some trouble with my clues, is that right? Problems getting aHEAD, hm?

Chilling, haunting laughter drowned out all other sound for several seconds.

Well I would suggest consulting Mr. David with your...Issues. Or was it Mr. Davis? I always get them confused.

You know what? I may just turn this over without listening to it after all. Where's the fun in knowing everything? For example, if YOU knew everything like Mr. Know-It-All over here seems to think he does then there would be no point in continuing this little game. Having to work your poor little brains a little this time?

Good. Very good. Perhaps you and I are destined to do this forever.

1 day left. Let us play.

Harsh and manic laughter once again rang out and was cut short only by the end of the recording.

The officers could do little more than stare at each other.

"What could it all mean?" Officer Elendil!Urukfear asked.

No one seemed to know.

Yeesh. Well more clues is nice, but I still can't make any sense of it.

If this mystery helper is to be believed, then there's more to "mieldy" and "funky" than meets the eye. "Take the first"...what?

David and Davis could be virtually anything. Heck, a quick Google search shows whole bunch of folks named David Davis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Davis). Same person or two different people?

Very odd capitalization on "Issues", too. It's possible it's a mistake, but as careful as this Incog seems to be with their wording, I doubt it.

Lots of new info, but I can't see how it all goes together. There has to be something obvious that ties them all into one neat clue, but I can't figure out what the heck that might be. :-k

Time for some more Googling and web surfing. If it goes into tomorrow...then it's your tax dollars at work!

EDIT: Oh, and one MORE thing: the capitalization with "aHEAD". I guess "head" is yet another piece of the puzzle? :suspect:

I will protect Felipe Musco. If you take the first letters of Mieldy and Funky you get FM which points to Felipe Musco. So I will protect him. I also think there is a identity clue in here as well, but will have to reread and look at past incog thread to determine my thoughts .

Edit: For some reason I want to think it is either M64, why not sure other than his attitude. But then again MM even though hardly active now that the whole doughnuts and coffee reference are back from an earlier incog game where me and he went on forever about a dougnut skit LOL. I will wait and see what else developes since I am lacking in the arrest chances department .

Maybe, NK. Maybe. But that ignores all the new clues Incog just gave us.

Unless they're meant to throw us off...? :-k

Funky. Mieldly. Head. Davis. David. Issues.

Jeez, could be ANYTHING.

I'll protect lem0nhead for now, since I can't think of anything better. But I don't think we have it yet. I HOPE it's Felipe, but it just doesn't feel right. I'll keep digging until the final buzzer...whenever that may be.

holy crap I change my protection to me. funky means Munky Mieldy mean Fieldy Davis is Jonathon Davis David is the drummer and issues is an album title. It all points to KORN. I protect me if I can't someone protect me NOW!

EDIT: oh yeah even aHEAD fits that is the other guitarist other than Munky. Altough David and Head are gone now that still makes the original KORN and that is the reason for half my handle . PROTECT ME!

Also seems I was on the right track right after his post to in a round about way .

Go for it. Barricade yourself.

Bravo! =D> That makes SO much more sense. The "first" must have meant switching the first letters of the two words, and then the rest of the words (David, Davis, Head) all fit from there. Even Issues works, as that was apparently the title of their 1999-2001 album. Thank you, Wikipedia!

Someone should probably still protect FM, just in case. Never trust a killer, right?

Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: Incognito on August 14, 2008, 01:18:26 PM
I shook my fist as I tracked down NappyKoRn, only to find him hiding out in a deep dark cavern. There was so much ammunition surely stocked inside that I could smell the gunpowder from hundreds of yards away. Not in the mood for spelunking or bouldering today, I decided a simple !taunt was in order. Flipping on my megaphone I pointed it towards the !cavern entrance and shouted:

!BOO!

Laughing at the panicked and wild gunfire that ensued, I dropped my "special delivery" and moved a short distance away, carefully covering my tracks.

A very bewildered NappyKorn emerged shortly after and found another recording, this time without that meddlesome Do-Gooder interferring. Ironically I had him to thank for the idea, not that I would be sending him a thank you card any time soon. Perhaps a different card eventually...

I watched as Officer Korn played the message after spending several minutes making sure it was not booby-trapped.

Greetings, Officer! Didn't scare you did I? Come now, don't pretend I didn't. You don't look any less frightened now than you did a few minutes ago. I seeeeeee you...

I could barely contain my laughter as I saw him scan the area.

Don't waste your time looking. You wouldn't believe it was me even if you did see...who you thought might be me.

At any rate I am actually somewhat glad you figured out my clues. Took you and your band of merry men long enough to figure it all out even after I practically spelled it out for you.

In the back of my mind I could hear HIM screaming again. I pulled out my bottle and popped a pill, determined to shut him up as I strained to hear the rest.

You see, I don't really want to kill you. You all are just too much fun! "Fun"-sized. Heh heh heh.

Anyway I am sure you are wondering where to go next. Take this back to your fellow Officers and then? I suggest you all may want to have some candy, Korn.

This time I could not help it and laughed aloud. Fortunately the laughter on my own recording drowned it out.

I watched as Officer Korn flipped the recorder over and found the note that said simply "Saturday". He then made his way towards the police station, pausing only momentarily to study one track I had left. I breathed a sigh of relief as he shrugged it off and left.

Almost gave us both away there not-so-incognit...

SHUT UP!

Repulsed at the voice coming from my own body---MY body now, NOT his unless I allowed it to be so!---I popped another pill, stifled another laugh, and headed my own way.

Wow, that's easy. He just gave us like, tons of clues to Incog being Nappy. (Sorry Nappykorn if this offends you) but basically what the mysterious incog said was that he wanted you guys to find out it was Nappykorn that he was trying to kill. "At any rate I am actually somewhat glad that you figure out the clues"
There is also the kind of back and forth talking that he's been using the entire time which fits into the smeagol/gollum thing, he even says that the voice comes from inside him. Plus he says not so incog, like, not so incog but more of a police official.
Anyway, I bet there's more clues to this, if not you guys don't have to make the arrest if you don't want to. Plus, I have a hint on who he is attacking: he says Merry men. and he says fun-size candy korn, fun size meaning small. Hmmmmm Merry, small, theres a posibility that it could be pippen the brave  but they are just hints nothing like real evidence, so if you guys don't figure what these cluse mean, you can protect him as a last resort.

I don't think NK is Incog. It just doesn't make sense. Though NK IS the only one to actually KILL anyone this round.... :P

Seriously, though. I can understand that line of thinking...NK was NOT mentioned last time, and now suddenly is the ONLY witness to the tape and all THIS time, but it just doesn't add up. If Incog WAS NK, why concoct that whole story? Why not just show up at the station with a tape like I apparently did last time?

That all being said, I'm starting to form my own suspicions about who it might be, but I'd rather keep that in my own head for now and communicate it through PMs to ya'll when I'm more sure. I don't think all this suspect talk should be had here in the open where Incog can read it...that's what PMs are for: privacy. ;)

Anyway, not sure what to make of the clues yet. Candy and fun-sized certainly seem to suggest children...who here HAS kids? Shieldmaiden does, Kralik does, Ulmo does...and that's it that I know of.

Could be something completely different, but it doesn't scream Hobbits to me, personally. Who knows, though?

It had been 2 days since !Incognito had promised to strike and there was still no sign of the mysterious assassin. No notes, no messages, no recordings, no clues.

The entire force had been camped out at the home of HawkeyeSPF and after no word, had ordered him not to go out until given the all clear and had made their way back to the police headquarters station.

Waiting for them had been a simple note.

Greetings Officers.

Check your inbox. es.

Walking inside the Officers each checked their individual inboxes and found the clues stashed therein. As they pulled them out to study and compare with their comrades they each noted the seperate piece of paper stuffed in their boxes below the clues:

2 days.

Okay, we've got one day to decipher these. I doubt they're scrambled this time, since they all seem like normal words, so it's a matter of how they go together. Do they all decribe the same thing, or a group of things, perhaps? Like a riddle? Could that be the "game"? :-k

As Officers Ulmo and NappyKorn toasted their victory in the station the phone suddenly rang.

Officer Korn picked it up. "Hello?"

Both wrong.

Time is up.

Sudden loud music began blaring out of the telephone reciever.

O Fortuna

velut luna

statu variabilis...

The other Officers arrived at the station as the music continued to play.

semper crescis

aut decrescis

vita detestabilis...

"I know that song!" Officer DainIronfoot shouted suddenly.

nunc obdurat

et tunc curat

ludo mentis aciem...

"What is it?" Officer Ulmo screamed over the blaring music.

"O Fortuna!" Officer Ironfoot replied.

They all looked at each other and then bolted from the station as the music played after them, almost taunting it seemed now...

egestatem,

potestatem

dissolvit ut glaciem!...

----------

The whole force arrived at the home of bibfortuna25 but it was quickly apparent they were !too late.

The body of Mr. Fortuna25 was just outside his front door, a large and very visible wound on his chest. There was no doubt of the cause of death.

Also on his chest was a note with the entire English translation of "O Fortuna", the most famous portion of "Carmina Burana":

O Fortune,
like the moon
you are constantly changing,
ever growing
and waning;
hateful life
now oppresses
and then soothes
as fancy takes it;
poverty
and power
it melts them like ice.

Fate - monstrous
and empty,
you whirling wheel,
you are malevolent,
well-being is vain
and always fades to nothing,
shadowed
and veiled
you plague me too;
now through the game
I bring my bare back
to your villainy.

Fate, in health
and virtue,
is against me
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
So at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating strings;
since Fate
strikes down the strong man,
everyone weep with me!

A quick search by the mournful Officers turned up yet another recording, which Officer GarrisonOfGondor played.

Told you I would not be lenient or late.

I'm a man of my word.

Uweeheehaha!

I will give you Officers some time to regroup. Your next clue will come later.

Keep your eyes open.

Guests CAN "guess" who Incognito is, after all, this IS a Member's Lounge (hate this new name, sorry) topic, but then again, Incognito is simply not gonna take notice of it, so it's far easier to PM a cop with your guess and the reasons you have to believe you are right, like an anonymous caller to 911.

That was two for NK? Drat. :(

Not sure if the resistance thing was a jab at your or a clue about you, GoG. :-k I still don't see how that fits with all those places Incog mentioned before. Let's see....here's the list again:

- New York

- London

- Jamaica

- Birmingham

- Barbados

- South Park

- "the Prairie"

Well, let's see. There's a Birmingham in England AND in the USA...wish Incog had been a little more specific there. :-\ Jamaica and Barbados are linked at least geographically, and London COULD be linked with the English Birmingham, or more tenatively with New York and probably South Park if it's the Alabama Birmingham. South Park could ALSO be either USA or UK, as there are TWO South Parks in England (one in London and one at Oxford) and several in the US, especially the fictional cartoon-based one. I'm sad to admit that I know enough about South Park the cartoon to know that a "Mr. Garrison" is one of the better-known and more popular characters from the show, which would potentially lend credence to the GarrisonofGondor theory...or could be an odd coincidence.

"The Prairie" could obviously be anything--PROBABLY connected to the North American midwest--though it's odd that it's capitalized. I think that may be the key to this puzzle, personally. You're going to laugh, but the first thing that comes to MY mind is "Little House On The Prairie", which I watched as a kid. Doubt that has any connection, but anyway....

I'm going to focus on the prairie part, since I think that may be our best lead. If none of us comes up with anything better by this afternoon, I'd recommend someone protect GoG, I guess. Certainly can't hurt.

Can NK unarrest FM?  The time isn't up yet, so final decisions aren't in yet.  :hey:

In Jamaica, garrisons are slums.
Garrison, Barbados has the rarest collection of English 17th Century cannons.
Garrison, New York is a town.
The Garrison is a pub by the London Bridge. (This one seems a bit dodgy)
The Edgbaston Garrison was located in Birmingham during the Roundhead/Cavalier second civil war in 1644-1648. (I think those are the years)
South Park has Mr. Garrison.
Garrison Keillor Prairie Home Collection CD set. (I think this is why the prairie was in quotes)

I protect GarrisonofGondor.

Well done GoG for finding that clue.  Yes, Dain, I'm laughing at you thinking about Little House on the Prairie.  Keep going with the Prairie thoughts though.  I thought I was right last time and poor Mr. Bib died.

Nope off the force, LOL Oh well I can still medley in the police's business as I'm not dead (yet) since others members do it all the time LOL. I went against my better judgement and arrest FM, but hey that is how it goes. I would love to see how incognito says he has given ID clues to us thus far other than his personality traits. We have made several protections and not a solid ID clue to my knowledge .

Well I can't seem to find anything more promising than GarrisonofGondor, so I'll protect AgentDrake. Depending on who this guy is, he may or may not know that Drake used to get nailed with forts and such, mostly with that one avatar he used to have.

I'll be very surprised if it isn't GoG, though.

The remaining Officers were all gathered at the home of Officer GarrisonOfGondor, except for Officer DainIronfoot who was back at their jail releasing the wrongfully imprisoned Felipe Musco and protecting the former "!Incognito" and traitor to the force AgentDrake.

The others were almost expecting it when a shiny new car screamed past and tossed out yet another recording at their feet before speeding away.

Officer Ulmo did the honors this time and pushed play.

Congratulations Officers. You are back on your game.

In my game.

That haunting and insane laughter once again followed.

Your Officer Ulmo mostly figured things out. The Garrison I was looking for in Birmingham was actually a person (http://www.educause.edu/Community/MemDir/Profiles/CarolZGarrison/124178?time=1219498329), but close enough.

Now it is time to play again.

My next victim envisioned himself an architect before deciding on two seperate and distinct careers. There are some who would call him simply "sir" in fact, though many know him quite differently.

Today he can be found at the Lawn of the Forest.

Too obscure? Maybe I will have to toss you another clue later as I did for Officer GarrisonOfGondor.

Don't even TRY to take credit for tha--

AS I WAS SAYING this is a little more challenging. That is what makes it so fun though. Don't you think?

But I am not without a heart. Take the entire weekend for this one.

I still do not think you will get it.

You didn't think they'd get the last one either, but guess what?

The voice...and the other voice...stopped for a moment and the Officers strained to hear what sounded like a pill bottle being popped open and rattling as a couple were swilled around and dropped out.

Ahem.

3 days.

Hmm, I think he is talking about Adultlink. Lawn of the Forest.
Title: Assassin, the Game (Round 3)
Post by: DáinIronfoot on August 26, 2008, 07:45:56 AM
I think "Lawn of the Forest" is actually "Forest Lawn", as there seem to be a number of cemeteries with that name, mostly in California (and a particularly famous one in Los Angeles). So I'm guessing we're looking for someone who's...already dead?

Maybe someone somehow linked to a real-life figure that is already dead.

But I can't make much of a connection beyond that. The architect thing seems like our best lead, but that's really not helped much, at least not from what I've been able to dig up. The "sir" thing strikes me as meaning one of those careers was likely in a military capacity, but that could be dead wrong. "Sir" just jumps out at me as miltary. *shrug*

Not much time left, as I THINK Incog intends to strike today judging by the "3 days" and when he last posted. I'm trying, but this has been a frustratingly inconclusive search across the world wide interweb thus far.

Once again the Officers had been kept waiting. And waiting. And waiting.

Until...

The news came on and the Officers were in for quite a shock.

"Our top story involves a local celebrity," the newsman reported, "known only as 'Kralik' He was found dead this morning outside his home. The probable cause of death is still being determined, but it is reported he was found with a large gash across his torso. And in other news..."

The Officers stared dumbfounded at the television until the phone rang and sent them scrambling. Officer DainIronfoot got to it first and put it on speaker so they could all hear.

At first there was no sound, but then a click seemed to indicate that a pre-recorded message followed.

Such a shame. He was so young!

The taunting laugher returned for a moment, and then:

Mister Kralik now joins his avatar in the grave. Perhaps they will BOTH end up buried at the famous Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale California among other celebrities. Kralik's avatar, Jimmy Stewart, has already been there since his death in 1997 after a long and distinguished career as both an actor and brigadier general in the United States Air Force. This all after he abandoned his early aspirations of being an architect.

But of course, you did not figure that out in time. Not even in overtime. So, we get...sudden death!

The laughter returned as the Officers hung their heads in defeat.

Come come now, Officers. You rebounded nicely last time and now it is time to do the same. This is no fun if you don't keep trying!

Let us try a simple little puzzle this time:

Seems so obvious now that I go back and look at it. I had the cemetary part right, at least!

Blast it all.

Okay, this new one. (I hate numbers. :-S) The first thing that strikes me, though, is the similiarities between them. Half end with 7s, three have 6s, three have 9s, four have 3s (and one of those has TWO 3s). 3 + 3 = 6 + 3 = 9, so that could be significant somehow. The 1s, 4s, and 8 seem like oddballs, but again, 4 + 4 = 8.

Significance in the fact that there are no 0s, 2s, or 5s, perhaps? :-k

Yeah, I hate numbers.

Come on, guys! You're not even trying!

For once we are agreed.

I thought this would be an easy "pick me up" after your inactivity lately, Officers. Instead you have another body on your hands.

As I said, I thought this would be easy. The numbers are simply the card number of each palantir in Lord of the Rings: The Card Game; the first number or two represent the set and the last 2 or 3 represent the actual card number.

I imagine you can guess at this point who has been killed. If not then ask bobtheorc if he has seen his brother lately.

I tire of the ease of my recent kills. This is not fun anymore!

I will give you the American holiday weekend to recuperate before we play again.

Is this really a riddle?  A riddle asks a question.
I guess the question is "what new jelly does the giant want on his bread?"

The story says the giant wants to grind the bones to makes his bread, not for the jelly.
So would it be blood?

Blood and bones?

Uh...well I guess I'll work on the clue until Incog shows up or GoG gets here to arrest me. Whichever comes first.

I tend to pick up on capitalization things. It kind of makes sense that each line starts with a capital letter, and that "Giant" is also capitalized. But put them all together and you get FJORGYN. Could be a Caesar cipher or some other scramble, but interestingly, "Fjörgyn" is the name of Thor's mother in the Old Norse, according to a quick Google search. Still not sure how that all fits in (or how much time we have left before Incog shows up), but it seems like a promising lead....

I had fought them off for a long time, but not forever.

Eventually GarrisonOfGondor and his fellow Officers, as well as some fed-up civilian goons, had wrestled me down and wrested my axe from my hands, the murder weapon in the deaths of bibfortuna25, Kralik, and sickofpalantirs.

HE had helped in the end. Unable to reach my pills, that blasted do-gooder had wrestled back control and stopped fighting, allowing us BOTH to be captured.

My last words, possibly ever, were not words at all.

Ha ha. Mwaha. BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

And then...HE pushed me away, and all went dark.

Well...it had been fun while it lasted.

Now sitting in a jail cell in the very headquarters I had tried to serve, a mix of emotions ran through me. Fear, remorse, anger, pain.

I pulled out my badge and sadly slid it through the bars.

He had won. He'd been wresting more and more control over the weeks, and finally the deaths had started. I couldn't stop him. I had tried to give more clues where I could, but the on-again, off-again amnesia had made it difficult. When I DID remember, I had been too afraid to speak up, determined to thwart myself--no, to thwart HIM--in his own game and prevent the deaths before he--I--caused more.

But in the end, he had won. And we both knew it.

Hopefully he wouldn't be coming back. At least in that I could take some solace.

...I already missed the badge.

At least, I sighed, it's finally over.

I was getting a little worn out, so I figured SOMEONE would get the mountain/hill thing. I was surprised no one on the force picked up on my earlier clue....

I watched as Officer Korn flipped the recorder over and found the note that said simply "Saturday". He then made his way towards the police station, pausing only momentarily to study one track I had left. I breathed a sigh of relief as he shrugged it off and left.

Almost gave us both away there not-so-incognit...

SHUT UP!

Heavy iron feet would make some pretty interesting footprints, don't you think?

I also mentioned how I loved "dirty cops", but again, that seemed to get lost in the shuffle. As did the large, ghastly wounds I kept leaving on my victims...like those consistent with, say, an axe?

I was also VERY careful to never put myself and Incog in the same place together...at least, not that any other cops were aware of. Any time I was present and Incog sent a message, it was delivered through a recording or other message.

Hopefully everyone had fun with it. I know I did. The split personality thing was something I came up with on the fly and developed as I went along. I think I eventually had more fun with that than the actual game.

Anyway, the new Incog has stepped up, so I'll be splitting this thread in preparation for his/her arrival. Obviously I'll be sitting this round out, as I know who it is, but I look forward to the round after that when I can just be a normal investigator again. :) It was starting to drain me a bit to try and do both at the same time without giving myself away.
