LONG ago, back before I ever found CC, I created some forums that were sort of a getaway for LOTR TCG dream card
addicts enthusiasts like me, bringing along some of the old Decipher board DCers for the ride. I did something a little unusual there that they seemed to like: I named each forum and sub-forum after a major location in Middle-earth. Things like Tom Bombadil's House and Rivendell and Fangorn Forest and the like. Each forum then had a description that went into detail about what that forum was actually FOR.
Do you all like that idea rather than the (in my opinion) rather drab forum titles like "Dream Cards" and "LOTR Discussion"? If so, then with Kralik's permission, I'll come up with some titles for the forums we already have and change 'em over.
And if I DO go forward with it, any good suggestions for MtG forum titles would be appreciated, since LOTR titles wouldn't make much sense for them.

I'm game. Might want to wait until CC is imported, though, but feel free to brainstorm.
-
so when CC is imported, we will all get our old posts and Gp's and all right?
-
General and Off-Topic or Memberslounge should be named Green Dragon Inn of The Prancing Pony...that's for sure!

Yeah, those are ones I've used (or at least contemplated) in the past.

Where is Esgaroth?
-
Where is Esgaroth?
Just another name for Lake-town. If you've read The Hobbit, that should ring a bell.
I've created names and descriptions for most of the forums now...what do you all think?
I still need some good ideas for the MtG forums....
-
Ah, I haven't read the books in a while. :-[
Names look good, though bag end seems a bit weird for open discussion.
-
Um...I think the new titles are...cool...but I can't find my way around now...without paying american dollars to the drunk local.
-
just get used to it...I like it!
-
I like it too, but instead of giving HUGE descriptions under each title, use a subtitle w/ a small description.
Example:
Lothlorien - Deck Clinic
Small Description Here...
It's just a bit much to read.
-
Picky, picky!

I tend to agree...
And in other news...
50% done importing the phpBB database!
Adding old CC posts will probably mess things up, so it might be better to wait...

You guys want some ideas to do a revamp in the MtG Forum titles as well? If you do, let me know.

I wholeheartedly agree, but the names are awesome. Why not change Esgaroth for somewhere better known like Minas Tirith or Osgiliath?

While we're doing one we might as well do the other. You could name them after the guilds from Ravnica or something.

Not quite what I had in mind, kinda like, for now, just name it after "Magical" terms, perhaps evolve them later, should we be able to drag some more people here.
-
The one that still throws me off a bit is Tower of Orthanc for gameplay. Unless Dain is trying to draw a parallel between our counsels and Saruman's. :'( Maybe Minas Tirith?
-
Maybe Library of Orthanc would be better?
-
Library of Orthanc reminds me of a deck design archive, actually. Although for deck designs I think Lothlorien is great. ;)

I was thinking of the Library of Orthanc specifically, but as you said, that seemed more appropriate elsewhere.
You wish is my command. I'll make it either Minas Tirith or something related.
-
Ooh, we're outta the black Tower! (Not that Black Tower, but still very... black.) Actually it might be amusing to switch things around at times just for kicks. Like if there's a 10-page debate over a rule issue, we might wake up one day to Evil-smelling Fens. Haha.

EDIT: Reference to Rosie Cotton removed.
-
Any of you Magic players have good ideas for MtG board titles? C'mon, I know you MtG folks are out there....

Sam - "Whaddya mean she's been 'broken in' for me?"
Merry - "Face it man, she's not popular because she's pretty... its more.. availability.."
-
Open MtG Discussion - Dominaria (where many planes intersect)
Deck Clinic - Phyrexia (construct killer decks)
Dream Cards - Lorywn (seems kind of dreamy)
Gameplay - Serra's Realm (passing down judgment)
Trading - Ravnica ("feels" about right... but is there a plane with lots of trading/bartering?)
Better yet, get a Magic expert in here.

LOL gp.

XDDDDD
Poor FM and NB... well I have done my best to make them panic, but hey, no need to hold back changes on my account. ;)

I'd call the trading forum Planeshift (since cards ARE shifting from one Planeswalker to another, it just seems appropriate. Also because I'd like the Rules forums to be called The Azorius Guild (one of the guilds from ravnica, with a very strict rules guide, and Arbiters and such, which would be "killed" by having a forum named Ravnica). As for the Deck Clinic, I'd call it Deck Check, since it's a MtG term and well appropriate to the forums. Other than that, Socks hit the jackpot with Dominaria and Lorwyn, in my opinion.
-
More like, "Other than 60% of your names..." haha! Dominaria happened to be my favorite so that's awesome, but regardless I yield to FM.
-
Now that you mention it, yeah, I didn't quite get a number crunch... :( But then again, the only objection with Ravnica being used for the Trading Forum is that it'd water down the whole idea of naming the Rules Foruma "The Azorius Guild", which is also an awesome fit. I'm not entirely sold out on the others, though... However, "Deck Check" might lure a few players to the community, rather than calling it by another name, since people actually search the web for stuff like that.
-
Just poking fun at myself, FM. ;) I would go with yours, since you actually know what you're talking about, and I like them too.
-
Again, your wish is my command. :) They've been changed.
-
Thanks, Dáin!

Menace brought up that "Lorywn" should be properly named "Lorwyn" (which I botched up there). Lorywn is apparently a tricksy, false, phishing plane... :o

Well, THAT would be embarrasing for the general public to run across, wouldn't it? ;) Fixed.
-
how do you figure out all these phase names...where do you find them?
-
I like the Neekerbreeker title. What other ones are there? I see Scout, Orc, Bowman....are they determined by post count or who was moderator and who is moderator? *cough* XD
-
By posts.

anyone? know the answer?
-
I can't understand the question, to be honest. Care to elaborate a bit more?
-
how do you figure out what planes stand for what? is there like a site with a comprehensive list? like how did menace know the difference between lorwyn and lorywn
-
Oh, well, Lorwyn IS a MtG plane, the other one isn't. It's actually a typo. How he figured out it actually stands for something else, beats me completly. I guess he figured it was a typo, and probably googled it to check.
-
Oh i see...thanks.
wow...a site where people figure out names for planes...wow...
-
I'm still not understanding what you're saying, SoP. Lorwyn is the name of an MTG set which describes the Lorwyn plane.
Thranduil
-
OHhhh so they have sets that have names...but also sites that figure out what qualities a name for a plane would have? I am so confused...I was wondering where you figured out the names for planes...apparently from sets.
-
MTG is not like LotR where there is a single world where everything takes place. In MTG, sets happen in different places called 'planes' and each player represents a 'planeswalker', a wizard who can summon a whole load of spells and creatures to fight opposing planeswalkers. Ravnica, for example, is the name of a set and the plane which defines its setting, same with Lorwyn.

-
THANK you, Thran! :D Beautifully explained!
-
I do have skills and knowledge not related to LotR DCs, you know! ;)
Thranduil
-
Sure do! Do you know how to PLAY MtG as well? ;)
Or maybe DC'ing on the subject?
-
I "figured" them out from here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plane_%28Magic:_The_Gathering%29)--probably should've
copy/pasted called Lorwyn "Shadowmoor" so if I juxtaposed the o's, no one would've noticed! Just kidding.

I have in the past played Magic, so I know the rules, but I wouldn't call myself a good player as I don't collect it and haven't had enough experience of it to balance DCs.

OK I think I finally understand now...have a gold for explaining...
