Title: Star Wars 3D
Post by: Gil-Estel on February 13, 2012, 10:00:30 AM
I am in a dillema:

I like Star Wars, and I love to see the movie in the cinema. I am making a pro/con list whether I should go:

Pro:

Padme/Natalie Portman
Darth Maul
Great action
Big Screen
Loud Noise

Con:

The fact George Lucas is doing that what he repelled in the 80ies: over exploiting his product
Jar Jar Binks --> in 3D....ouch

So please, let me know what you think

Phantom Menace does suck big time indeed, that's all I can say.

I'll pass on the first 3 ones and watch only episodes IV, V and VI.

Take away one pro - 'Loud Noise', as the sound didn't really seem that spectacular in the theater to be honest.  Then again my home setup may be spoiling me.

One additional Con:
- Jake Lloyd

I have a harder time now with Jake than I do with Jar Jar.

Needless to say I went and saw it in 3D anyways... Not sure if I'll be able to bear Episode 2 in the theater, but I'll definitely be there for RotS and entire original trilogy.

I saw it.
My first reactions were that 3D did not fix the problems with the script. =)

That said, I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan so I get enjoyment just seeing the movies (even bad ones) on the big screen.

I haven't seen many 3D movies, but I must say that since this film wasn't shot with 3D in mind, the 3D isn't great.

I think the format is at it's best when you are shooting with 3D in mind (ie, place the action to come toward the camera, not moving laterally which is the way most action is shot in films)

Agreed rubbercarp,

The 3D certainly wasn't mind blowing like it is with Avatar or Tangled.  However I do think it was still worth it, and I'll likely be picking up the 3D version of the 6 movie set once it's released.  I held off from buying the 2D bluray set as I was anticipating the eventual 3D release.

You should add to the cons list:
- The entire prequel trilogy refers to who I know as a dark Sith lord as "Annie."
- Taking an awesome zen-Buddhism idea like the Force and explaining it as being aspergillus in my blood stream or whatever.
- The technology in Episodes 1, 2, and 3 is way better than the "future," episodes 4, 5, and 6 [which is technically the past, relative to us].
- A robot army! Why didn't the Empire think of that?!
- "There's always a bigger fish."
- Not being a Star Trek film since Star Trek is superior to Star Wars.

That's all I've got off the top of my head.

Haha, you are near convincing me not to go.

LMAO!

Another add to the cons:

- Taking a badass villain, one of the most memorable faces in the story of cinema, the one that is in every piece of SW marketing and give it a little over 3 and a half minutes of screen time with no voices.

I always see people bring this up, but I'm not sold on it.
Can you give an example of this ket?

A true star wars fan will ALWAYS go see the films in theater.

A true star wars fan will always spit on episodes I, II and III.

I think what he means to say is this: first you are going to do the last 3 movies in inferior quality with a better story and then, doing the movies that have an inferior story with the ability to do them in superior quality...but fail to do so.

I wonder why people are all so iffy about Episode III. It is quite entertaining, unlike episode I and II.
