Title: Old and Stale
Post by: wstahlman on March 13, 2012, 12:55:55 PM
Talk about old and stale, why does everyone only want to play sets 1-10?  The old sites force the game into set pattarens with almost no variety for fellowships.  What is wrong with playing standard formats?  Many more options and a much larger variety in both fellowship and minions.  The game changed for a reason catch up.

The game changed for worse and if you think that standard is not predictable, you're waaaay wrong... And that is why people thought of austrian or poormans format...

the newer site system doesnt even make any sense, story, game technical and in general lol. Its also by far too strong, just saying.

It's not that people aren't willing to move forward, they just don't want to move into what the game became.  It needed evolution, iteration, not downright ruining a lot of what made the game great.

If you want the same thing over and over again watch the movie.  The point of the game is to make it more of a what-if.  FoTR has about two or three fellowships that have a good chance and a choice of Nazgul or archery for the minions.  Not much more variation is possible.  There is not a single fellowship and/or minion combination in standard that can rule the game like the dwarf/archer combo or the elf/Nazgul combo in the original sets.

I think Movie Block is the most-fun format, but I like to indulge in some Expanded every now and then too. But the problem with Expanded is that there are just too many broken cards. Ithilien Blade, Namarie, Relentless Warg + Scouting Orc, Mountain-troll, Courtyard Parapet, etc.

The what-if part is not what people object about.  The shadow reorganization, the obtuse site remix, the OP, unplay-tested cards like bib mentioned, this is what made the game into a gooey mess.

Standard simply isnt fun. Its all about power cards and op combos. The cards werent tested, stupid things like horn filter still exsist.

Movie has several shadows that can be succesful, without using stupid broken cards. (Thats why people usually dont play Lady redeemed).
