Now that the wiki is working, I'd love to see it start to get filled. I was thinking that an organized project along these lines might work:
*Choose a set to edit.
*Set a target deadline (1-3 weeks per set).
*Make a list of cards that need to be edited per set and look for volunteers.
Of course, anyone can edit a particular card at any time! Some of you really should fill in the details for your favorites (Heije, I'm looking to you for LttG goodness!). I might take a lesser-known-but-surprisingly-powerful card such as Dear Friends, for example.
I'll be making card thumbnails shortly to help with making pretty inter-wiki card links.
Let me know what you think and we'll get this rolling! :)
-
I have a number of other LotR-TCG related things I'm doing, so I doubt I'll join any group, but i will definitely be adding things as I have time here at work.
-
More of an informal volunteer basis. Like:
Kralik: Who wants to wikify set 1?
TelTura: I've got some stuff on X, Y, and Z, so I'll take those!
Someone Else: I'll do cards 11-19!
Heije: LOST TO THE GOBLINS is all mine!
-
Is there any chance we can replace the smilies with the twilight symbols and culture/block icons? I can't see emoticons being useful in a wiki, but those symbols are kind of important.
-
I'll look into it. The smiley don't need to be removed, but I can use the smiley code to add new ones.
Or... I could just toss the images into the wiki media folder. Then you could call them with code like:
{{1.jpg}}
or
{{dwarven.jpg}}
I'll think about it. The second solution is much quicker. :P
-
Works for me.
-
Ninja'd! What do you think about image linking vs. smiley code if it's a matter of now vs. later?
-
I think we can stand to wait. {{1.jpg}} is pretty annoying to type, as compared to the
[1]
and [Gondor]
that's used in the forums. How does the smiley thing work, would you set a "smiley" that would be automatically interpreted (like [ 1 ])? That would be best, in my opinion.
-
Yes -- smiley code is actually what handles the forum icons, so I'm guessing I could take what I wrote for the forums and adapt it for the wiki.
-
Just for fun, I put a little bit of work into one of my favorite companions, Gimli, Feared Axeman.
Didn't hyperlink the cited cards. But I'm tired and have early morning meetings so I've decided against further work on the subject tonight.

Thanks ket! I tweaked the deck links with the titles of the decks.
-
I'll take Southron Archer if that's cool :)
-
I will take lost to the goblins, most definately!
-
I wrote a bit about Orc Banner. I guess I will add something to a card that catches my eye every now and then :)
-
Culture/twilight icons should be working now (see Orc Banner for an example). If you've already edited a card's wiki, you need to re-edit it and save to have it parse the smiley code.

Once I have a chance to poke my nose around the PHP code for the wiki a bit, I'll be adding the forum's autolink code to it. It won't do the popup previews, but it will link the cards for you. So feel free to let it go for now unless you really want to link them manually. :)
-
OK, autolinking for card titles in the wiki should be working! There were a few glitches here and there, but I think they are fixed. Let me know if you see anything. Orc Banner is again a good reference since it has an example decklist.
-
Looks like the autolink code confuses the section editing option. I'm not going to fiddle with it -- instead, whole page editing is good enough. Also, I added a revisions button to the bottom bar.

That's an improvement more than anything. Having only a section preview without being able to take it in conjunction with the whole of the article wasn't very helpful.
[EDIT:] Also, would it be possible to move the Edit Article button to the upper-right, near the title? Perhaps even just put a second button instead of moving, so you have an option to edit at the top if you went to that page specifically to edit, and one at the bottom if you feel that it needs editing after reading it.
-
Alright, as far as the autolinking goes, it's one thing on the forums for a misfire on the autolinker (whenever someone says "brand new", for instance), but it can be misleading on the wiki. For example, check out my page for 01R001; "Heavy Burden" is linked when it was just a description, and someone unfamiliar will have no idea why that particular card is such a weakness. If you can manage it, I think the most elegant solution will be to recognize the built-in "no-formatting" tag for the wiki, %%like this%%, to indicate that a word or phrase should not be interpreted by the autolinker.
As a side note, being able to do something similar on the forums would be nice, but not as necessary, naturally.
-
Actually, this functionality is already on the forums and on the wiki. The simplest way is to precede a card name by an exclamation mark (=not). You can also add the word NOLINK before the card title, which is a clunky carryover I added from CC days.
Example: !Heavy Burden <--use quote to see

EDIT: Wow, that announcement is from about ~4 years ago. Has it been that long? ???

(whenever someone says "brand new", for instance)
BTW, I tend to make the more common English words (like fear vs Fear, hate vs Hate) case sensitive, so perhaps I should do the same for brand.
-
Awesome, I figured I must be nuts for such a basic thing to not be implemented. So long as a solution exists that's good enough for me.
Might wanna put a note for that in the wiki style page, right around where it goes over the wiki noformat tags.

Just wanted to report that I wrote a bit for Consorting With Wizards and Troll of Cirith Gorgor. I'll do one for Westfarthing Businessman a little later.
-
That is awesome. Just so you know, you can delete the sections that are unneeded; they can always be added later. I went ahead and removed them for you.
-
I think I have a good amount of experience with 2 of my fav cards Gandalf, Returned and A Ranger's Versatility but I dont think I can write good enough texts....
-
write what you can; one of us will edit it to make it readable if need be, the important part is the content.

Consorting with Wizards is a key card in my Fellowship Hobbit deck -- enough so that I usually bid 3 to get Bilbo out at site 1 with Hobbiton Party Field. I'll have to add a few notes since you made it sound useless. ;)
Basically with Well-Spoken Gentlehobbit and Hobbit Party Guest it becomes four condition removals and excellent Fellowship/Regroup choke. I'll see about posting my "Bilbo's Party" deck and linking it.

Do you play 4 copies of Consorting with Wizards? Looking forward to see the decklist anyways

Added to the wiki. I only edited menace64's text slightly -- the part that indicates that CWW is useless outside of ARB Bilbo. :P

YOu have to forgive me, but I couldnt resist filling in The Weight Of a Legacy.

Now I'll have to design a killer deck to take advantage of this card with so much OVERLOOKED POTENTIAL. Something that... forces my opponent to have Aragorn even if they don't and lose even though they won't.
Actually, it would be funny to build a powerful Sauron deck and splash TWOAL just to make your opponent give you strange looks. Even better if you could actually use it from time to time and win with it in play. But it's still a waste of card slots, so...
-
Right. Sorry about this RB, but I had to go and make a viable Shadow deck for The Weight of a Legacy.

Without watching I call shenanigans!
