Title: Wiki Index
Post by: Kralik on April 24, 2012, 11:28:27 PM
As more non-card material is added to the wiki, we'll want to have a master index of some sort. I've added a stub page here:

http://lotrtcgwiki.com/wiki/index

Once it fills out a bit I'll make it a prominent link on the front page.

It occurs to me that that page is what needs to be the front page.  Having the set indexes is a holdover from the database, in which it makes sense that that is the first content you see, but that doesn't hold here.

Also, and I don't know if doku-wiki comes with this or not, how feasible would it be to put a section on the front page that shows, say, the last ten or so changes made to the wiki?  wikia websites have that and it's a great jump-in point when you don't know what else to look at.

There is a "Recent Changes" button in the bottom left corner, but it wouldn't be too hard to make that link. As for the Index... I want the front page to be an introduction and splash for the forums and card sets. My plan was to add the index link in a prominent location for those who want browse the wiki. Therefore, the starting point suggests the following three options:

* Forums
* Cards
* Wiki

That's perfectly in line with what I'm thinking; I've been roughly using the TF2 Wiki (http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Main_Page) and TeamLiquid StarCraft II Wiki (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Main_Page) as a sort of guideline, and you can see they make it work with plenty of community info sharing the portal into the wiki itself.

For now I've added a link to the front page until we get to the point that we like the index enough to have it take over.
