Title: gondor knights/sauron swarm? (Expanded)
Post by: Yanko Markovic on May 12, 2008, 01:12:49 PM
This deck is weird. I will start with it. No fortifications. The thing is to have your knights strenght 8 base, and it was not made to have ALL the companions in play, 1 or 2 can be out of the fellowship through the game. this deck has the worst cycling, but is a theme deck.

Isildur, bearer of heirlooms
The one ring, the ring of rings

FP: 30

Aragorn, captain of gondor (starting)
Alcarin, warrior of lamedon
Elendil, high king of gondor
Denethor, lord of minas tirith
Faramir, defender of osgiliath
Boromir, proud and noble man
Imrahil, prince of dol amroth

Anduril, flame of the west
scroll of Isildur
sapling of the white tree
seeing stone of minas anor
gondorian blade x4
gondorian sword
armor of the white city x2
knife of the galadhrim

sentinels of numenor x2
rally the company x3
swordarm of the white tower x2
dagger strike x3
much needed rest

Shadow: 30

orc soldier x3
gate troll
sauron, dark lord of mordor
cirith ungol sentinel
orc chieftain
orc hunters x2
grishnahk, orc captain
cirith ungol guard x2
cirith ungol sentry x2
cirith ungol patroller x2
orc swordsman
tower lutietant

forces of mordor x2 (it is X'ed or R'ed?)

troll's chain

Forces of Mordor is R-rated, I believe.

As for the knights, it seems like a waste starting Aragorn. Why not start a [2] cost [Gondor] guy like Knight of Dol Amroth with Denethor, Lord of Minas Tirith? That way you get 2 companions as well as a very likely Denethor at site 3.

I know you don't want fortifications, but City Wall just makes so much more sense than Sentinels of Numenor, for example, as it's far more likely to trigger and will be more effective, and Alcarin can take advantage of it. Or Fourth Level with Gondor Bow, which is just a very powerful combo that it seems a shame to miss out on. And if you're interested in some nice high strength guys, a couple of Knight's Mount would fit in nicely.

Shadow side seems a bit scattered, especially with the lone troll in a swarming deck. I especially think that you should take out the troll chain  which seems unnecessary and unlikely to be useful if you only have 1 troll in the whole deck anyway.

Also, the Uruk-hai are alright, but there are going to be better guys for the same cost that you can put in. For example, I really can't think of a reason to use Cirith Ungol Patroller over Orc Swordsman - so what the uruk is damage +1, he's the same cost and Orc Swordsman has +1 strength with the potential for even more. If you're trying to swarm, why not consider some of those [Sauron] orcs which are designed for the purpose by helping you draw cards (like Orc Insurgent)?

Other than that, I'd replace the uruk-hai with better Orcs, but otherwise looks decent.

I fear for your Knights, I have tried starting with just Aragorn and its has usually ended tragically. Nazgul love eating up  [Gondor] so dont give them the chance. Start with 2 knights! Or put Denethor in your starting fellowship!

hahaha thanks. i think i will start with alcarin (or denethor, maybe) and turgon, to combine it with fourth level, then he could be sacrificed without any problems

Turgon doesn't work with fourth level, neither does Alcarin. Fourth level transfers in the skirmish phase, both Turgon and Alcarin's abilities happen in the maneuver phase.

If you want a good combo with fourth level, you need gondor bow.

Or Citadel of the Stars.

Seriously, Fourth Level + Sixth Level + Gondor Bow + Citadel of the Stars is the backbone of any good knight deck.

I usually start Alcarin and Turgon (sometimes Ingold). Both work great with Fifth Level, but I'd use Fifth Level regardless for its amazing strength reduction.

Fourth Level + Gondor Bow/Citadel of the Stars for skirmish removal
Banner of Westernesse / Boromir, Hero of Osgiliath for healing
Sapling of the White Tree for wound prevention
Last Throw for triple moving

Very fun against Ninja Gollum! ...Not so fun against Saruman's Power.

A minion can bear more than one fortification, right?
because then it would be nice to transfer both citadel of the stars and fourth level to the same minion...

and maybe bow of minas tirith?

last throw seems good, I'll try it.

Fourth Level and Citadel of the Stars is the expensive way of killing something that cant be wounded
