Title: Lost when it comes to building deck...........
Post by: Lparsons7641 on January 01, 2013, 03:19:39 PM
Hello everyone!

I'm  big LOTR nerd, I used to collect the CCG cards when i was younger (2001-2004 or so). I played a few games with friends, but everyone else played MTG.

Anyway, I found Gemp-LOTR, and have been watching games.

I am so confused as to where to even start with decks and building

I am thinking of starting simple, Fellowship block. That's what I am more familiar with rule wise..........but still just have no clue what to even include in my deck.

I LIKE Hobbits and Gandalf. Would the two work together? What shadow cards to go along with that?

Well every deck needs some Hobbit support, since you've got to keep Frodo alive. At minimum, you need Sting, OEG and perhaps Bounder to help Frodo out. If you're going for more Hobbit support, Merry FTS, Theree and Back Again, more Hobbit Swords for your extra Hobbit companions, The Gaffer, Farmer Maggot and Filibert Bolger are all good choices. And you can't ever go wrong with Boromir SoD and Hobbit Stealth/Intuition.

Gandalf is usually a support character. You'll need cards like SOTSF, Albert Dreary, Glamdring, Intimidate, Strength of Spirit and Betrayal of Isengard for him.

This type of fellowship can usually be paired well with Nazgul, or perhaps Uruks.

Recently tournaments were added, when you click on the "Tournaments" tab, you can choose to load finished tournaments.

Each player name in each finished tournament standings is a link to the deck that this player has played in that tournament. This might be a good starting point to take a look at what people are playing, and which decks are successful. You're lucky, as currently only Fellowship block tournaments can be created (that will change shortly).

You can also inspect our Lothlorien section more closely, its sole purpose is decklists and discussions, and it's separated by format, so you can check out a lot of Fellowship Block's ideas.

ALso, before we came to this site, we used to hang out at the now-deceased Cobra Cards, so there were a TON or articles written on decks, cards and even ideas and concepts, which you can check here (http://lotrtcgwiki.com/community/index.php?f=5&ppage=25&sort=lastpost&order=DESC&sid=994257a1e04bb6fee8ff299c5f8822c7).

I wrote one about Fellowship Block specifically, which was well received at the time (not sure how it applies today, if the format has changed or what), which you can read here (http://lotrtcgwiki.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=2242&sid=994257a1e04bb6fee8ff299c5f8822c7).
