Title: King's Blade
Post by: jdizzy001 on September 23, 2013, 02:19:17 PM
It's everyone's favorite artifact to hate! You know it as king's blade! Seriously though, has anyone developed a strategy or practical use for the blade? Is it possible (and I'm opening a pandora's box here) as a community to do something about this useless sword? Even a simple attachment of a dmg bonus would be better than it stands currently, add threats to liberate a site or discard a condition. Anything?

But, I digress, has anyone found a practical use for it?

Aragorn, Heir of Isildur and Boromir, Bearer of Council as your only 2 companions with I Will Go, Boromir's Gauntlets and 4 Citadel of the White City is viable in movie.  Now with Anduril, Aragorn takes the 4 biggest minions, and cancels his skirmish with the gauntlets.  I suppose a way to remove threats would also be nice.  (Hearts Rasied?)  Watch out for Grima, Wormtongue and Corsair marauder, though.  Once you set up, you'll choke pretty hard, at least enough to drive an opponent crazy.  Gondor Bowmen and Defend it and hope along with Gorn's Bow help, too.  Ambush will have fun against you, though, so definitely pack a Coat of mail or 2.

I have a certain appreciation for it (King's Blade) in movie decks that I want to use Aragorn's Bow, but don't want my str+2 sword discarded by things like Corsair Maurauder (like Ranger's Sword would be, for instance)... Legion's proposed uses are also viable (though I think he meant Heir of Elendil rather than Heir to Isildur).

Corsair Marauder can't discard artifacts.

I'm pretty sure canceling a skirmish counts as a lose, so the 4 citadel's wouldn't help there. What do you do for burden removal/condition discard?

Corsair Marauder can't discard artifacts.
Quite right, hence using King's blade paired with a potential Aragorn's bow versus Ranger's Sword, which is more typical when running additional weapons for Aragorn. Perhaps I was unclear. So, just to clarify: If I play Aragorn's bow and I do not want my sword discarded, I'll use King's Blade as opposed to Ranger's Sword. Hope that clears things up.

Again, such discussion arent really rules questions but should go into bag end.

And the problem I have with kings blade that its costs 3.
Either the Rangers sword costs 1, or FOTW costs 3 but does so much more.

Not to be an arse RB (because we have gemp'ed together and I view you as a respected member of our community) but this section of the forums is for rules, card and strategy questions. I did ask for the strategy other players use when they choose the king's blade. nevertheless, if someone wishes to move this thread, or let it die entirely, by all means, do so.

It doesn't. Neither side wins. What gives you that idea?

oops. cancel a skirmish. For some reason I started thinking about discarding all the characters on 1 side of a skirmish like in discarding hobbits. you're right, my mistake. If gorn uses the bracers to cancel all his skirmishes citadel can still activate. good strategies. very passive aggressive.

Okay, I don't care where on the site it ends up, but I want everyone working on a decklist for this one.  I'm SOOOOO tired of seeing the exact same two decks, and I think these challenges are fun.

I kinda want it to have Tom Bombadil, Nine Fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom, and One Whom Men Would Follow...

No offense taken here, I always thought this was the rules questions forum, not strategy also. My bad :)

Check it out. I call the deck, Borogorn. It isn't finalized but consider this V1.0
