Title: Are singles too cheap in Merchant?
Post by: FYNO on May 08, 2014, 10:05:32 PM
I just bought an entire deck (identical to one I'd use in All Cards) via Merchant, and have enough gold to buy another one. I think that's unfortunate. The packs I had won in Leagues didn't really matter. I think it'd be better if it wasn't easy to buy whatever deck you wanted, instead it would usually make sense to try to win or buy packs and tried to build decks around what you pulled. That would make winning and opening packs a lot exciting than it is now.

I think doubling the costs of singles would be a good way of achieving this. The cost of packs could also go up, but I think in any case they should be cheaper relative to singles. When a pack and any rare costs the same amount, it makes basically zero sense to ever buy packs, given that they're at best worth about 17 gold if you would have otherwise bought every single card, and they're usually worth much less. If they cost say, half as much as rares, it could be a viable strategy for a new player to buy packs to help build a deck.  (You'd possibly have to reduce the resale value to the merchant a little bit, though. Not too much - buying boosters, selling back most of the cards and buying new boosters seems like a fun way to build decks).

One issue could making My Cards hard to enter for new players. You could alleviate this with extra gold for all new accounts.

In some ways I agree with you.  Rares should be more expensive.  However, not too expensive.   People shouldn't have to spend half their weeks savings on a single card  I also think you should be able to win gold in leagues and tournaments.  That way you can buy more packs.  Another option could be to decrease the booster cost.
