Title: Made up pictures?
Post by: Carl333 on June 16, 2014, 02:50:21 PM
What scene did the card picture Voice of Nimrodel come from, or is it just a made up picture like Glorfindel?

Decipher seems to have had access to all the pre-post-production stuff; plenty of card images have different color correction than the movies, or have scenes without the people in them, or whatnot (it could just be clever photoshopping on Decipher's part, but in some cases it makes me think they had access to things the movies simply don't have).

And when you say "made-up" like Glorfindel, I mean, it was still done by Weta; they designed plenty of things that just never made it into the film.

When I got my first set of LotR cards (over 10 years ago-wow!) I played my DVD of Fellowship of the Ring and tried to pause it at the frame of each of my cards.  It was the Boromir Starter from RotEL (which is terrible, by the way-any more than 1 strength 7 minion and you're taking wounds).

I never could find the Tower Lieutenant in the films.  I don't remember a single orc in a black background (except in Moria).  If anyone knows where it is, I'd be very grateful-it's been bugging me for 10 years!

Did you use the extended edition of the DVD (I really hope that that goes without saying)? My guess from memory is it could be from the scene where Gollum gets tortured. However, there are plenty of Sauron cards from FOTR set that don't appear in the movies. Like, Spies of Mordor? Where was that?

Voice of Nimrodel was a still shot from one of the earliest FOTR trailers. That scene never made it to the final cut of the film (obviously).

You can see the shot here at 0:44: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWkgxbaew9w

Yeah just like Border Defenses, curse their foul feet and take up the bow. We never see the skirmish between the Fellowship and the Elves of Lorien, though we do see it during one of the fellowship of the rings trailers.

I don't know for sure, but some cards are close-ups of wide-angle scenes, so it's a possibility that it's one uruk amongst several in one of the Isengard scenes (perhaps Saruman's pre-Amon Hen speech?)

Just a crazy idea when reading this...
Has anybody ever tried to sort all LotR cards into their chronological order of appearance of their depicted scene in the movies?

I really really hope not. That has to take a Herculean effort, massive amounts of organization, and more free time than I think I'll have in the next three years.
