Who of you would give his/her child a name of Lord of the rings?
Why/Why not?
Which are the most beautifull names of Lotr?
In my country, we have some Gandalf, Legolas and Arwen. That is quite impressing :-k

I have a friends whose parents named their house Rivendell. Thats about as close as it gets I think.
I dont think my wife would approve, but I would call my son Sauron :uh-huh:
-
how about wulf ?! :D
-
Well, in true Tolkien fashion, I plan on naming our daughter Dís when she's born.
No, of course not. :P
-
Gorbag sounds good
I think the closest it could get is Sam, and I can give him the nick: Samwise.
Both Eowyn and Arwen are very pretty names.
-
Elanor (the name of Sam's daughter, taken from the golden flowers in Lothlorien) would be a great girl's name, I think.
Of course, Sam would also be a good boy's name...
-
I would name child the name Elrohir or Halberad. Maybe Boromir, Though my wife would kill me. No, I don't have one......yet.
-
My baby boy, if I ever get one, will be named Michael Jordan...just his middle names...Imagine the fun -I do- when he is being baptised, or graduating, or is getting married, those moments that his full name is being used and the ref says...Michael Jordan Wubs, do you take this woman...:)
But I like Estel, as a second name also, for it means Hope, and I like hope
-
Éothain, although anglo-saxon, is one of the most beautiful names in Lotr
-
if I had a daughter I would probably name her arwen. Very pretty name

I love all the Anglo-Saxon/Anglo-Saxon derived (AKA Rohirric) names right off the bat: Theoden, Theodred, Eothain, Eomer, Eowyn, Unferth, Hama, Grimbold, Gamling.... Heck, I even like the ones that aren't supposed to be people: Guthwine....
On a related note, Gandalf, Dain, Durin... a lot of Tolkien-names aren't actually originally Tolkien, so you could attempt to argue that you're naming the kid after some ancient mythical hero, not a LotR character.
Actually...
[AD runs off to find a copy of The Poetic Edda, then starts thumbing through the index]
Hey, Dain.
Dís is one of the non-original ones. It means something along the lines of "Angel" or "(Female) Guardian Spirit." Plural is Dísir, since it's not originally supposed to be a name, but whatever. It's actually not a bad name, IMHO. :P

Lurtzy.
-
I do know someone named Finarfin
-
I've always liked Galadriel. I mentioned that to my wife before we had kids, she didn't go for it. Just as well we don't have any girls.
But my first boy is called Sam, and he loves Sam from the movies. And the cards ... We sometimes call him Samwise.

I sure hope not!
No. Anyone who would name their kid after a LotR character is obsessed way too much.\

Hey, just for the record, I really did have to find my copy of the Edda and check the index to find that out. :P
