Title: Pack A Day: The Breaking of the Fellowship
Post by: dmaz on August 06, 2015, 10:52:07 PM
Hey guys!

Air Power did get me interested enough to "break" the seal on one of my FOTR booster boxes! :)

This is the first time I've done an unboxing and I decided to film them all and post it here!

My plan is to go down the line, starting with this FOTR box...Mines will be even easier to tear into as they were severely overprinted, but we'll have to see how willing I am to crack open my last Realms booster box, haha.

There's the video link! Enjoy!

Cool to see you on youtube :) I don't know about that rumour, but I had found and opened an old Mount Doom set of cards not that long ago, and I did find a lot of the cool rares at the bottom... I thought it was coincidence...

Any bets what the R foil will be? My money is on Gandalf culture.

That's funny you mention that, I was thinking how cool it would be to pull a really GOOD rare foil, and the first one that popped into my head was Friend of the Shirefolk :)

If any though, I think Ranger of the North would look awesome...but I can't get my hopes up haha

How can you never have used Uruk Guard? :o I know I've enjoyed evading an opponent's strength 14 Aragorn with him before...
In all fairness though I do prefer the [Uruk] version, you can give him 2 extra vitality for his ability.
Good packs, I thought the chances for a foil were quite low, and yet you've had 3 already!

I think the reason I've never used him were mostly cost-related...I don't know if an extra 1 twilight is necessary for his ability. I think they even bumped it down to 3 for the newer version you mentioned.

If I'm right (maybe someone else can confirm) the general foil distribution is supposed to be about 1 in every 6 packs. So thus far I'm doing pretty well!

This must be the best booster box ever (so far). And you mentioned me <3 But a P foil does replace a C foil, not a R foil ;)

Here's today's:

Remember to pick either SWCCG Reflections or LOTR Reflections for me to open on Wednesday, and just post your response here :)

Guess it won't matter TOO much since I'll just open the other during the following week, but I might pull out something else, we'll see

I'll vote for LOTR Reflections. It would be nice to see both though. Btw, I actually have an Aragorn and Arwen deck on Gemp, and it works pretty well :) In those rare games against [sauron] Orcs, there's something satisfying about having The Choice of Luthien out to shield against Hate.

Struggled to remember the Nazgul that was supposedly female, it's actually Lemenya, haha

@Dictionary, good point! There's even many shadows that supplement trackers for site 9 and use x2 or x3 Hate to try to snipe important companions at the end.

I won't judge you, but I think you just offended every dwarf on Middle-Earth for forgetting the name of their most legendary figure. :P

Not a great pack, but at least you got Linnar. Ancient Roads doesn't hurt either, as you generally need a lot of them anyway.

It did feel a lot like you used all your luck on the first few packs. After foil Servant of the Secret Fire things went downhill a little.

I'm a little behind watching these, I must say I have to disagree with you on Bred for Battle vs Lurtz's Battle Cry. I have had plenty of times where Bred for Battle is a dead card because, for one reason or another, my uruk cannot exert. Of course, Savagery to Match Their Numbers doesn't have this problem, but even then I can end up discarding because I don't need it (Strength gap too great between uruk and companion, or I'm winning regardless, but can't overwhelm.) And I usually ditch Armor with Beyond the Height of Men. I know what you mean though, I've discarded LBC plenty of times before.

Great series :) It's nice to see packs being opened on camera, rather than simply having to read them. Feels more like the watcher is actually part of the pack opening.

Thanks for the feedback Dictionary! :) I know I'm very direct in my opinions, but it's definitely just my play style. Since you mention that, I have to agree that is a big weakness in Bred for Battle. And in FotR you don't really have many other options. Maybe another reason to go x4 Ambition like Euk is always telling me hehe

Anyway...here's todays! Ended up being pretty happy with this one as well

Foils look way better IRL, It's a shame we can't upload them as they are to Gemp :)

A way to achieve that might be to separate the card picture into different layers, and apply different versions of the foil.gif effect to them (or even the same foil.gif, but with different starting time).

Now, that'd require a lot of work, and also a lot of more cpu time to show. Some players complain about foil cards destroying their games in Gemp, either making things too slow or wrecking the browser/machine. What a shame.

Black Steed is also good for the Towers site path with potential plains at sites 1-5 and 8, and also few underground sites. And I have used Mirror of Galadriel in my mass allies deck, just because giving strength + 1 to every site 6 ally had it's potential uses (Stacking with Uruviel, MoL and Lothlorien Woods of course) but I agree it's not great. And The Twilight World can work in some fun corruption decks. I'm glad we didn't see The Weight of a Legacy at least, that rare is just painful...

I've never used or seen used Questions That Need Answering. What it's good for? Does it just help with deck filtering?

Questions was very good for those fellowships paired with Vida Moria. It's good for cycling, very good. Worst case scenario is where you draw 4 awesome cards just to discard two of them.

Beat me to the punch :) Yeah, it's definitely a useful card when you have a very large card pool of minions in your deck and you simply need to get 8 of them (or 7 and another key card) into your hand
