Title: Tower Ring-Bound Rangers
Post by: GarrisonofGondor on October 21, 2008, 03:53:49 PM
Here is what I came up with.

 Starting:
Frodo, Tired Traveler w/ The One Ring, The Answer to All Riddles
 Faramir, Captain of Gondor
 Ranger of Ithilien

 Fellowship:
 2x Gondorian Ranger
 Anborn, Skilled Huntsman
 4x Sword of Gondor
 Faramir's Bow
 3x Ranger's Bow
 Faramir's Cloak
2x Arrows Thick in the Air
 2x Curse Them
 3x New Errand
 3x Mortal Men
 3x Trust
 2x Garrison of Osgiliath
 3x Ancient Roads

 Sooooo, Questions or Comments.  ???

Cut Garrison of Osgiliath for Ithilien Trap and I think its good

More Curse Them. Its that good. And yeah, Ithilien Trap. And why are you running exactly 6 comps? Run either 5 or 9. I recommend 9 in this case.

New Errand stinks. Run Ancient Roads over it anyday.

citadel of the stars is also nice! And I don't dislike New Errand at all! What is a minion is assigned to Frodo, 1 vitality? You could slay him...some sort of PATHS...if you like

Yeah, true, but its kinda...meh. I guess you can run it. Though Arrows Thick In The Air is better, IMHO.

Hmmm played RB Rangers for a long time so can tell you what's missing and what shouldn't be there.

Your deck is missing some KEY cards. Here they are:
*AT LEAST* 2x Mablung, Soldier of Gondor
1x Ranger's Bow
4x War and Valor

What can I say about Mablung, SOG? He will take down Sauron, WK, Shelob... any of them with two exertions. He *IS* your guy. You could add 3x or 4x to get him fast and keep him healed. I played him with some citadel of minas tirith and denethor, lomt so i could get him fast AND keep him healed, but since your playing TTT block, you could use 3x with no problems

Ranger's Bow is just too awesome not to have 4x of them and War and Valor is your event and you know y :D U probably didn't know it or forgot to add'em in ur deck :D He's the obvious best event for RB rangers.

By looking at ur deck I'd take out Anborn, SH, Trust and mortal men. That gives room for all cards I mentioned. I'd take out 3x New Errand and add 2x Curse them and another Mablung, SOG. Or maybe 1x Curse them, 1x Mablung, SOG and another Gondorian Ranger.

I think I changed your deck too much :D sorry but it was looking really bad. With these changes it will work a lot better, trust me.

EDIT: Man, just realized your frodo is totally unprotected! IMO You should add 2x Sting, BH and 1x Slinker. With all the burden removal ur getting, you could take some big guys with him. I think you should raise ur deck size, or take out 1x Sword of Gondor, 1x Garrison of Osgiliath and 1x Ranger's Bow (leaving 3x).

Careful with playing 6 companions with rangers..
I've found 4U249 Southron Commander is handy in every shadow deck, but for rangers it's automatic death...

yeah ive been tinkering around with this in the ol' TT format as well.
I dont use New errand, though i can see it's worth.
mablung is essential, quite simply as is war and valor.

apart from that, ilike the deck - may even copy it to try for a bit!  :hey:

Mortal Men and Trust won't be used to their full potential so as others have said, War and Valor instead for skirmish event (the damage+1 is especially nice there). Also, for my Ringbound Rangers deck I have x2 Light Shining Faintly for heals because rangers (especially Mablung) get very exert-happy with their bows.

I know I posted a deck list before, but since I love Towers Block, I'll post what I play on GCCG for you:

Starting:
Frodo, Tired Traveller with The One Ring, Answer To All Riddles
Faramir, Captain of Gondor
Ranger of Ithilien
Smeagol, Poor Creature

Free Peoples:
Mablung, Soldier of Gondor x3
Damrod, Ranger of Ithilien
Gondorian Ranger x2

Sword of Gondor x3
Banner of Westernesse x2
Ranger's Bow x3
Faramir's Bow
Faramir's Cloak
Sting, Baggins Heirloom x2

Ancient Roads x4
Follow Smeagol x2

War and Valor x4
Arrows Thick in the Air x2

Now, I am going off memory, but that seems pretty damned close.

I use a more wound-oriented version with the event from Rotk... stand to arms along with Henneth Annun and Ithilien Trap... also mablung, pippin, wobas, rangers bow and co.

Yep :( I so hated southron commander... There should have been a gondar card named hate especially for southron.

I never had a big problem with Southron Commander. I avoided playing a sixth companion until I had Sting, Baggins Heirloom on Frodo. Between that and the One Ring, Answer to All Riddles I would survive being overwhelmed, but I also tried to make sure I packed one skirmish event in a lot of decks that way I could survive.

Doesn't help with cavern entrence.... That was the problem... I had Sting!!!

Yeah, in my experience, Mablung is one of the main strengths of Ring-bound rangers (indeed, he's one of my favorite cards in the game), as he can, with 2 exertions, take down any roaming minion. Unless there are no strong minions in your meta (e.g. all swarm/medium-sized beatdown) there's no real reason for a RBR deck not to have him.

And, yeah, go with War and Valor over the token-spotting events. Since you have no [elven] or [rohan] cards, you're never going to get more than strength +2 out of Trust/ Mortal Men, but War and Valor will give you that and usually an additional point of strength and damage (a good RBR deck will keep the minions roaming most of the time).

I just want to bring up that Garrison of Gondor posted this in October...of 2008.

Too bad he's not here to get these great suggestions and thoughts on this deck!

Why wouldn't he be here?
