Title: Be Gone question
Post by: bebpc on February 20, 2021, 06:25:48 AM
Hi guys,

Im having trouble to understand the card Be Gone!
here is what the card says:

Spell. Exert your [Gandalf] companion X times to make a minion strength -2, until the regroup phase, for each time that [Gandalf] companion exerted.

I allways thougth that if you exert a companion twice you would make a minion -4, but i saw a game on gemp where you could make 2 minions -2 each.
What is the right form to play ?

Im from Brazil and english is not my best, but looks like for me is the same case with eowyn and aiglos where u can wound the same minion twice or give one wound in each minion.
But the coma in the end makes  me very confused.

What you guys think?

I think you can use the card either way–2 exertions on the same minion for -4 strength, or 2 exertions split to 2 separate minions for -2 strength each.

bebpc actually has a typo and added a second comma which would change the meaning; the text should be "Spell. Exert your [Gandalf] companion X times to make a minion strength -2 until the regroup phase, for each time that [Gandalf] companion exerted."

Normally "for each" would mean you choose a minion whenever you apply the effect so you could split it among multiple minions or stack it all on one. Since there's a comma splitting up the effect and "for each" though, I think that those are two separate aspects. First you exert a companion X times and pick a minion to make a minion strength -2 until the regroup phase, then you apply that effect for each time that companion exerted. It's horribly written, but most of the later cards are.
