Title: Returning player, budget friendly deck?
Post by: Mr.FUNderhill on August 27, 2021, 03:20:44 PM
Hello all, I'm a returning player that has a few friends looking at getting back into playing with physical cards. Looking around at card singles, prices seem a lot higher than I remember them. I'm wondering if there are any recommendations for some budget friendly decks for the Movie format? Like maybe around $100 (US)?

I'm not super interested in playing  Gondor / Rohan / Elves or Easterlings for Fellowship and Shadow, respectively.

The most budget option, of course, is to print out cards and put them in sleeves over free Magic commons you can get at just about any card shop. That's what I would recommend, as then you won't be limited to simply "budget decks" without any of the cool power rares (or any rares at all). Playing without rares isn't all bad, some neat strategies are doable there but can't really compete with some rare cards that oust them, but for cost and convenience this one wins out IMO.

Other than that, you can get some starter decks for cheap and potentially scroll through the marketplace here https://lotrtcgwiki.com/forums/index.php?board=7.0 to see if anybody is selling a lot; I've seen people ship bulk commons/uncommons, collectors often have many more than they know what to do with. You can look at what's been brought together at https://lotrtcgpc.net/faq-buy.html for some ideas as well.

Play poormans format. You can buy commons for cheap, less than a quarter for a single card sometimes
