Title: Gandalf wounding! (o.O)
Post by: alehaak on December 15, 2008, 12:43:02 PM
Starting Fellowship
*The One Ring, The Ring of Rings(11R1)
*Faramir, Bearer of Quality (RB)(17R28)
*Eowyn, Lady of Ithilien(10R72)
*Merry, Impatient Hobbit(6R113)
*Pippin, Wearer of Black and Silver(7R324)

Sites

Fellowship (35)
2x *Gandalf's Staff, Ash Staff(11R34)
1x *Narya(3R34)
4x *Gandalf, Powerful Guide(15R29)
2x *Moment of Respite(7R44)
2x Watch and Wait(12R35)
4x Servant of the Secret Fire(1R83)
4x Strength of Spirit(1C85)
2x Threw Down My Enemy(6U36)
2x *Gwaihir, The Windlord(17R20)
1x *Pallando, Far-travelling One(13R37)
1x *Brego(4U263)
1x *Faramir's Bow(4R118)
2x *Glamdring, Foe-hammer(11R35)
3x *Radagast's Herb Bag(18R26)
1x Horse of Rohan(4C283)

Gandalf, Powerful Guide + Radagast's Herb Bag = 1 spell + 1 burden and 1 exert = 2 wounds, but, with Strenght of Spirit is 2 burdens 1 exert for 4 wounds.
+ Gandalf's Staff, Ash Staff + Watch and Wait + Gwaihir, The Windlord + Pallando, Far-travelling One + Glamdring, Foe-hammer = 2 burdens removed plus 1 exert and 1 wound on another minion and a condition discarded.
on regroup moment of respite to remove that exertion and gg :D
horse of rohan on gandalf to get 1 free exertion, and a bow on faramir to a free wound. This deck did pretty well on my gametests!

Any suggestions?

You know, you could cut down on the number of Herb Bags, Staffs, and Glamdrings (and other unique things that will be useless if you draw them and already have one, though powerful guide does help you a little in that respect) you need in your deck if you cut the number of cards to 30, which I think you definitely should. Also, you could cut down on all those things as well as copies of Gandalf by using Sftf. Start both Merry and Pippin, In the Bloom of Health, Bregalad (who comes out for free) and maybe Gandalf, LoM. Now you have 2 great [Gandalf] companions in your starting fellowship to burn to get the combo cards that you need like Ash-staff, Radagast's Herb Bag, Gwaihir, Foe-hammer, etc. And you have 1 copy of Sent Back so you can burn LoM to get Sent Back, Powerful Guide and another card, which you'd want to do site 1. With a 30 card build, I'd say that would be really strong. You could always splash some other [Gandalf] companions to burn if you need to (Ents are good, especially the ones that will get -4 twilight cost from your In the Bloom of Health guys) and Erland to get back your Servants of the Secret Fire. Oh, and then you can also throw an Ent Draught on Gandalf, which can't hurt!

And since you go on the Gandallf tour in expanded, maybe some Fireworks?

Could you run A Wizard is Never Late instead of 4 copies of Gandalf? This would give you essentially 5 copies of him, not to mention allow for adding in other companions like Erland... Also, are Followers considered characters?

No. A Wizard is Never Late only plays companions and allies.

I'd still be a bit more useful than 4 copies of Powerful Guide, wouldn't it?

Extra copies of PG can be discarded to heal himself, although I'd run the full set in addition to A Wizard Is Never Late. Like Thranduil suggested I'd also cut back on his gear to reduce clog / wasted draws.

Home and Hearth can further remove burdens if they're a problem (in which case I'd definitely switch Impatient Hobbit to Swordthain). Eowyn is great with Spear of the Mark and Coif. Also if you ever wanted to, you could try running Shadowplay / Unheeded for more wounding fun. ;D

I really liked your idea (a gold for that!), but this strategy is completely different!!
I made a deck with your ideia(and elessar's socks too)  and i got something like this:

Starting Fellowship
*The One Ring, The Great Ring(19P1)
*Frodo, Weary From The Journey(15C144)
*Gandalf, Leader of Men(8R15)
*Merry, In the Bloom of Health(17U107)
*Pippin, In the Bloom of Health(17U109)
*Quickbeam, Bregalad(6C33)

Fellowship (34)
1x *Gandalf's Staff, Ash Staff(11R34)
1x *Erland, Dale Counselor(11R30)
1x *Gandalf, Powerful Guide(15R29)
1x *Moment of Respite(7R44)
1x Sent Back(9R27)
4x Shadowplay(10U114)
2x Watch and Wait(12R35)
4x Saved From The Fire(8R20)
4x Servant of the Secret Fire(1R83)
4x Strength of Spirit(1C85)
2x Unheeded(8R115)
1x *Daddy Twofoot, Next-door Neighbor(13U144)
1x *Gwaihir, The Windlord(17R20)
1x *Pallando, Far-travelling One(13R37)
1x *Glamdring, Foe-hammer(11R35)
1x *Radagast's Herb Bag(18R26)

1st you burn gandalf to bring sent back, radagast herb bag and the other gandalf... on the other site you burn quickbeam to bring foe-hammer, watch and wait(or erland) and moment of respite and on the other you can burn 1 hobbit to bring shadowplay, unheeded and daddy and have fun :D

on my deck i have some copies to my things come fast... i cycle really well with gandalf and moment of respite! never clogged my hand! (and i paired this deck with captain deck!)

Notes: Like other similar cards, this card’s game text should say “Ent or unbound Hobbit. ” For each Ent or each unbound Hobbit, the twilight cost is -1.

Mumble mumble, with my friends we have always use to choose either to spot ent or spot hobbits, seems we are wrong.

(we are italians and maybe there is a translation problem of the concept of "and" and "or" :D now it's all clear)

Italians? I'm going to Venice in a couple of weeks and to Rome next year, so tell me where you are and we can meet and play LotR TCG together! ;)
