Title: Formats
Post by: Hobbit_Pizza on May 19, 2008, 10:33:09 AM
So if I am using a deck comprised of FE & TT blocks for example, do I use TT block sites because the most current cards I have in my deck are from TT block, or do I use sites from the most recent block because I'm using a combination of blocks?

I would use the former option myself.  If you had one RotK card in there you should use RotK sites.

Officially I guess it'd be considered movie block, and that's RotK sites isn't it?   ???

What if were all FE and one TT card?

Depends on the format, really, more than what blocks you decide to use within that format. In Expanded/Open it'd be sites from Shadows set on up, and in Movie block it'd be sites only from King block.

If your playgroup is using only Fellowship- and Towers-block cards though, maybe you could use Towers sites as a sort of delayed movie format.

So technically I would only use TT sites if I were using just TT cards, but since I'm using FE & TT, I should use either RotK or Shadows+ Sites (depending on format)?

So that makes a card like Durin's Tower only 1/2 useful unless I'm playing ONLY TT cards. :-\

Yup! If you were playing Towers block, you would use only TT cards (and TT sites). Otherwise combining blocks leads to formats like movie block, Expanded, Open... though you could do anything you wanted in casual.

Haha, yeah, quite a few cards become worthless/near worthless out of their proper blocks.

Yeah that's right on.  Though you could just choose to use TT sites among your group as long as you all agree.  I for one like using all the sites, so I have decks set up and ready to play for each site path.  5 decks for Fellowship, 6 for TT, 8 for RotK.
As long as all players agree and the cards aren't blatently taking advantage, I think its ok.  So yeah go ahead and set up your own format where you use Fotr/TT cards with TT sites.  Its not official, but its not a tourny or anything.  8)

Roger that. Thanks for the clarification!

I remember some of the decks I loved to play right after TT came out. Mix of Fellowship and Towers Block cards, Towers sites. It's not an official format anymore (it would have been "Standard" then), but as long as your playgroup agrees, it's fine! I love nostalgic decks. :)

Casual play rocks. I used to play decks in which the contents of the draw deck had little or nothing to do with the adventure path, as well as cross-format games with other players.

It was cool.

The LotR Map System sounds interesting as far as converting all movie block sites to work in Expanded. Link (http://www.24.fi/farian/lotr/linkit.htm).
