Title: Rohan`s Riders with evil men
Post by: Éomer,Third_Marshal on June 22, 2009, 05:00:55 AM
Hi there. I`m new to this game, so I am not sure what are the restrictions for standart deck, but as far as I know(I`ve seen some of the decks listed on this forum) my deck should be "standard".
Anyway, here is my favourite deck I used to play with. Could you please come with some suggestions, how to make it work better?

•Frodo, Protected by Many (11S164)
The One Ring, The Ring of Rings (11R1) (I am betting high, because I want to go second, starting to make double moves from site 3-4)

Freeps:

companions:
•Eomer, Third Marshal of Riddermark (P) (0P45) x2 - starting (really a monster, with his bow, mount and a spear he can be easily str 14-16. I play a second copy of him just in case I need to heal him. this deck depends on him)

Enraged Horseman (7C226)(x3)

Riddermark Javelin (11U151) x4
Rohirrim Helm (AI) (5R127) x3

•Herugrim, Sword of the Mark (7R236)

conditions:
•Border Patrol (11U144) x3
Thundering Host (5R94) x3

Allys:
•Leowyn (7R239)
•Deor (7C222)

events:
Fey He Seemed (7U231) x3
Rally Cry (11S150) x3

total: 39

Hi, welcome! It is good to see new people. I hate to break your day ;) but it is not standard. Standard is Return of the King - Age's End. (7-19), so Eomer can't be included. Sorry. Other than that, it seems like nice.

Thank you  :) I found this forum like week ago and it already gave me some good ideas for deckbuilding. and the database of the cards - sooo sweet.

But back to the topic. If not Standart, then Expanded, correct?

Yup, but I don't think it will last in Expanded, haha. There are some mean fish in the sea there. No sorry, in general beatdown decks don't last too long, in my experience. Most nasty fellowships in standard try to get done before skirmish due to nastyness in maneuver of archery, try denial with Ringbound Hobbits or play as many tricks as you can with Gandalf. You need conditions management, something to get rid of burdens and preferably do some healing as well.
Your deck has the denial part, which is nice, so consider Merry Swordthain, to get those helmets back.

I see. But I think it will take some time to join some official tournaments. Now its enough for me to play few games a week in my meta and there are not such a nasty decks as you mention.(not yet, maybe I`ll
 create one  )

However its nice to improve, so I was thinking about •Jarnsmid, Barding Emissary (12R30) for burden removal (which is kinda stupid, if I don't support him with the rest of my deck). The second option is play the •Tom Bombadil's Hat (P) (0P60), since I will use Merry Swordthain (thank you for the great idea :) ) for getting the helmets back.

For Healing - how about to use Leowyn 3 times?

Leowyn is great for your deck since you also have 39 cards ( a very large number as most decks are in the 30-34 range) so it helps cycle and heal

For your shadow add more archery cards like Southron Murderer, Howdah, Archer Of Harad, Fletcher Of Harad, Mumak Rider to name a few, Elevated Fire and Precision Targeting are also good to throw in.

that is the evil men archery twist, which can be a hand full to accomplish. For a cheap and very competitive evil men deck go look into McTono's deck in poorman's lotr. Pretty much a starterdeck and only common's, uncs and starters involved.
