Title: 9 walkers (freeps)
Post by: jdizzy001 on August 08, 2009, 04:53:03 PM
The Great Ring

Companions
Frodo Protected by Many
Gandalf WG
Boromir DMT
Gimli LC
Sam SF
Merry LC
Pippin BD
Aragorn Guide and Protector (I was going to use thorongil, but I always use him.  It's time for a change of pace.)
Legolas SG

Conditions
G for Grand x4
Watch and Wait
Traveler's Homestead
Stern words
Prized Lagan (The amazing card whose value I never realized  :hey:)
The Faithful Stone x2

Events
Inspiration x3
Sworn Companion x2

Stuff
Shadowfax GotM
Gandalf's staff  Ash-staff
Mithril-Coat, Dwarf-Mail
Sting, Elven Long Knife
Gimli's Battle Axe, Vicious Weapon
Anduril, Sword that was broken
Gondorian blade

Start Frodo and gandy.  You can bid 2 if you want, but 0 is fine.  Just be sure to sprint ahead at some point.  You'll want to use prancing pony to pull gorn, but other than that play your comps as you pull them.  keep a few comps in your hand to use with inspiration.  Use shadowfax to remove burdens and use sting to dump threats.  you also have watch and wait. You should have 3 guys with muster so use it and cycle through your deck.  Use a shadow that pulls minions from your discard pile that way you have ammo with which to muster.

You also have 3 companions who wound during the skirmish phase, gandy, gimli , and gorn.  If you really want, you can play bow of the galahdrim from the fellowhip block.  That will give you an extra wounding.  Heck, you could also play skilled defender which will give you another, but that would defeat the purpose of this being a resistence deck.  Either way once you get your g for grands and stern words you'll be able to beat up a bunch of minions.

This deck is a little weak on healing.  what would be good to use for that?  Suggestions?

Use Aragorn, Heir to the throne of Gondor. Pippin takes all minions, and Tom Bombadil cancels his skirmish   :uh-huh:
(Pay Attention with Legolas resistance at a forest/battleground, must be fewer than Pippins!).

I would take Sceptical Guide, as direct wounding is always a good choice (eg against black assassin).    Nine-fingered Frodo and the Ring of Doom is better than Watch and Wait. You could add a Goldberry as well.

Galadriels Phial, Starglass! and the tale of the great Ring!

Gimli's Battle Axe, Trusted Weapon is also great. Inspiration is lovely, I like it - it is such a strong card! But you could use some Sworn companions instead, as you have quite high-resistance companions.

Do not forget Borne Far away and traveled Leader, if you start with Gandalf! Spirit of the white tree is great too!
And I would add 1 additional:
Legolas
Gimli
Aragorn

and you need more condition discard, I think. Kingsfoil, New Awakened (expensive), Seclusion (spotting an Elf?!?)

I made a nine walkers deck too, and what else to pair it with than the Nine Riders. Maybe it gives you some inspiration ;)

cool, thanks for the advice.  I will say though, I like to try and keep my decks limited to 30/30.  And, for some reason that I can't quite put my finger on, I try to build my decks either pre-shadow or post-shadow.  I don't always follow this rule but I find it more challenging for myself.  I like the idea of newly awakened but as mentioned it is real expensive.  so I chose traveler's homestead instead.  By the time I use it i will be able to discard 2 conditions anyway.  I also prefer the maneuver to fellowship.  Either way, thanks again for the advice.  I like the skeptical guide idea.  I should add him and drop the elf weapon altogether especially if I'm playing 4 copies of g for grand.  I could use that extra card slot for newly awakened or a healing card.

i would say drop a g for grand or two and add a tale of the great ring gandalf's cart is also a good idea if you find your hand clogged

Don't be scared to go over 30 cards, just make sure you run the right shadow along with it. For large decks you have certain shadows. Moving this Way and Nazgul are an obvious choice, as is Moria. Underfoot is also an awesome card in a Moria/corsair swarm. Reconcile your hand during shadow, that is ace. And with a nine walker fellowship, I think you have to go big to give everyone a fighting chance....
