Title: FotR League
Post by: TheJord on November 22, 2009, 06:56:50 PM
I think its time to get a new league going. So, I have taken it upon myself to head the new (un)official league. If you are interested, please let me know. Once we have a minimum of 8 players, you can start submitting results on your FotR block games. At the moment, GCCG and other online platforms is our only way to do this. With success, hopefully we can open this to real life games!

Every month the highest rated player will be announced.

At the moment, the only rules of the League are that you use a FotR block legal deck, which includes all cards from sets 1-3.

R-list

Forces of Mordor

Your rating is based on a very simple ELO rating system.

Hi - i have never used GCCG etc. Is it easy to use?

I live in Australia so will it be too hard to play over the internet given timezone restrictions?

Cheers

Already getting in touch with the game interface ^^ LOVE the idea of having virtual money and being able to keep a virtual collection and opening boosters! They should do a draft version of it ^^

It's almost like lotr online... but for free :D Sweet!

Hi all - I have GCCG - looks interesting - no idea what to do - anyone willing to give me some help?

OK I downloaded the GCCG stuff last night and watched a game that was going on.

Just remind me again what cards we can use in the FotR league. Is it cards from first 3 releases minus any X listed (are there any from first 3 sets) and only one copy of R listed cards. Anyone have a list of R  cards.

I did download a starter deck but then got a bit confused about what I was doing and ran out of time. It looked good and brought back some distant memories from my playing days.

Cheers

Max

Forces of Mordor is the only R-listed card in FotR

Enjoy deckbuilding! GCCG isnt the slickest program for deckbuilding, so I recommend using SdA or Zorbec's Decklist Builder

Thanks TheJord perhpas we can arrange a casual game later this week/early next week (depending on how by deck building goes) to get me back into the game.

Hi ket - that would be great - I am about to go to work but will be around the net in about 8hours - around 3:30 Aussie time - and have about 5 hours to play with (up till about 8:30pm). Give me an idea of what time and I will be there.

There is no limit to how many players can join.

I will start accepting submissions for games played relevant to the League.

No decks need to be submitted, its not a tournament. In the league, as long as you and your opponent call it a league game, its a league game

Hi all - i will be online (GCCG) at 7:30 my time which is two hours from the time of this posting and will wait until 8:00 my time. If anyone wants a game and will teach me what to do i will be there. I am happy for it to be called a league game - easy win for anyone who plays me. I know how to play LOTR but not how to use the GCCG interface.

I played a game with Kenddrick today.  I gues I should post here and say that I am or want to be in the league.  I am Gwaihir there as well.

Also, we ran into a bit of a problem with a rule.  Can the ringbearer hide in this league?  I read some stuff here that suggests yes and some that suggests no so I am confused.

Hi TheJord - if anyone is capable of playing other players with real cards instead of using GCCG can we accept submission of results to the league?

Also - jmmcarthy's games played do not add up  #-o
Title: Re: FotR League
Post by: TheJord on November 30, 2009, 01:22:00 PM
If everyone is happy with this, I am. Both players would need to verify the result
Title: Re: FotR League
Post by: chompers on November 30, 2009, 11:01:22 PM
Seems fair - this means both players need to be members (good for TLHH) and less chance of cheating (you'd have to be pretty hard up to create two accounts and lie about results)  ;)

Oh, like I said, somewhere this week, I will join :)
Title: Re: FotR League
Post by: Sete on December 01, 2009, 02:12:47 PM
LOL Gil-Estel! "Looking forward to see you in game" ;P ahahah

Anyway, league is fun but still doesnt appeal as much as it could... I mean, it would be fun if every week each player would play vs another one. (What I mean is, having players that do, imagine, 20 games per week and others that do 5).. Then the final results would be very well done! But again, it's hard to arrange that cause of everyone zone time...

But a good example for it is Ket the Jet. 12 games, 4 wins - 8 losses - last place. I mean, players with 0 games are ranked higher. At this point everyone should have the exact same games. Either 6 games done, or 10 games done... etc. So in the end, all the scores were fair.

Does the rule of four count for FoTR? This rule was introduced later (i think) and was not part of FoTR block, same as ringbearer skirmishes. So it should be allowed to draw more than four in fellowship - shouldn't it? Of course I may be wrong on the rules .... again :)

so in this league, all FOTR cards are legal?  Or are there forbidden cards?
Title: Re: FotR League
Post by: chompers on December 06, 2009, 08:11:59 PM
All cards from sets 1-3 are legal. However Forces of Mordor 1C248 is restricted to one copy per deck.

Only other rule - you can cancel skirmishes using ringbearer.

Someone correct me if i am wrong.

and ofcourse the errata remain. From the top of my head:

Far seeing eyes, Mirror of Galadriel, Thror's Map, Ranger's Versatility, We must go warily.

Please expand when I'm missing something, which is likely to be the case :)

Errata's already exist on the cards in GCCG, and I have listed the format rules under the league table

Well, you would have to use the keyboard shortcut or right-click menu to display it if you were not already aware of it, since the images are the originals. You *do* have images, right? ;)

I have played a few players not currently in the league om GCCG. Some do not know about it and have not joined because it is FOTR. If we let them know lots of players are active and it may expand to other formats soon they may be more likely to check the league out and perhaps join/.

I am newish to playing block format - always played open in the past. So I have heard Galadriel Lady Redeemed is generally not played under gentlemans agreement (presumably in RoTR movie block). Are there any other examples of this, in particular for FoTR league. Just want to make sure .... :)

not really... all is pretty balanced in fotr. I would personally be happier if you didn't use cards such as goblin scimitar, paths, and savagery to match their numbers :P

Some fantastic results for everyone's favourite Dutchman have taken Gil-Estel into top place, the first to depose Ringbearer since he took top spot 3 weeks ago!

And I have to give a special shout out to our head honcho Kralik, who has designed a cracking file that allows me to update the table in seconds, compared to the hour or so a day it was taking me to update everything! So helpful, all players should shower him with gold. And then play against him as he has agreed to join the League.
