Title: Rohan \ Evil Men Archery
Post by: NappyKorn on October 07, 2011, 03:56:11 PM
Well I made this deck because Ket wanted to give WotR block a try. I didn;t want to post it until we had a chance to play. Since deck building/posting is nearly dead I'll try to keep it alive best I can. Here is the deck it did well.

Bearer and Ring:
*The One Ring, The Ruling Ring(11S2)
*Frodo, Protected by Many(11S164)

Fellowship (35):
3x *Eomer, Heir to Meduseld(13R123)
1x *Eowyn, Shieldmaiden of Rohan(11S146)
1x *Gamling, Defender of the Hornburg(11R147)
2x *Theoden, King of the Eorlingas(11U159)
1x *Theodred, Second Marshal of the Mark(13R138)
3x Riddermark Soldier(11S152)
1x *King's Board(13U131)
4x Hurried Barrows(13U130)
3x Rally Cry(11S150)
4x Ride With Me(13C134)
4x Rider's Bow(13U135)
4x Rider's Spear(11S153)
4x Rohirrim Mount(11U156)

Strategy:

Idea is at the start of each fellowship phase use Gamling and transfer possessions to other companions. Get Eowyn loaded first so when she wins she gives strength to the other [rohan] companions. Eomer fights last so he can be a beast with more and more [rohan] companions in play. Theoden gives extra strength while you are at a plains/battlegrounds and the riddermark soldiers give extra strength when played. Plenty of events to get your win with Eowyn and added a King's board just in case you feel you can exert for a clutch extra boost. Theodred with a horse can easily exhaust most minions. You get defender bonuses (if you need them for whatever reason) damage bonuses and with the bows you can perhaps get a few minions killed when your companions win if you need to double . The Riddermark Soldiers are fodder after they are played but if they stay in play the help Eomer  get stronger.

Shadow (35):
4x Caravan From the South(13C83)
4x Howdah(13U94)
2x Elevated Fire(11R78)
3x Precision Targeting(11R96)
2x *Grima, Footman of Saruman(13U92)
4x *The Mouth of Sauron, Messenger of Mordor(12S73)
2x *Voice of the Desert, Southron Troop(13R101)
4x Archer of Harad(11U67)
3x Desert Wind(13R86)
4x Fletcher of Harad(11R81)
3x Mumak Rider(12R74)

Strategy:

Basically get howdah out with Mouth reinforce the tokens with Caravan From The South and start picking off the opponents companions in archery. Grima helps you exert more when companions die in archery and Mumak Rider tosses possessions like Dwarven Bracers and such.

Sites:
(0)Anduin Banks(11U227)
(0)Isenwash(13U193)
(1)Ettenmoors(11S237)
(1)Slag Mounds(11S258)
(2) Wold Battlefield(12U194)
(2)Flats of Rohan(11S240)
(2)Helm's Gate(11S245)
(3)Harrowdale(11S243)
(3)Trollshaw Forest(11S260)

Plains and battlegrounds to both help the free peoples and the shadow with Anduin Banks to help finish off the opponent if needed. Granted Anduin Banks can cause you some pain as well but just kill those Riddermark Soldiers and after you have pulled all your possessions you can use Gambling as fodder as well.

Now the fun part, comments (good or bad).

Well played it twice now and its 2-0. Free Peoples has actually surprised me ALOT. Faced [orc] lurkers both times and only lost a Riddermark soldier or 2 each game . Not only has the Free Peoples surprised me but the format as well has proven to be alot more fun than I've heard it was.

Always nice to have something new to play, just wish a few more people would give this format a try now. The shadow sides in this format seem to be easy enough to make ([men] Archery, [orc] Lurkers, Forest [ringwraith] etc...). The Free Peoples sides seem to be the hardest things to come up with. I have made 2 decks (haven't had the time to test the other) for this block now and might try to make a few more if more people are willing to give this format a go on GccG.
