How exactally does the card work? It says each minon gains the ability to either be assigned to gandalf or in the regroup to discard the condition and heal gandalf thrice. So my questions would be:
1) Does each minion have to chose one of those abilities for that turn?
2)If so does that mean mutliple minions could be assigned to gandalf in the assignment phase by the shadow player?
Any light shed on this would be helpful. Thanks-Jonathan

1) Each minion gains: "Assignment: Assign this minion to Gandalf".
2) No, assignment actions can only assign a minion if the companion is also unassigned.

So is it mandatory that in a given turn that a minion must chose one of the two actions per steadfast champion? (does the minino either have to assign to gandalf or let the free peoples player heal gandalf?)

No, each minion automatically gains the ability to be assigned to Gandalf while the condition is in play.
Completely separate from that is the fact that the Free Peoples player may discard the condition during the regroup phase to heal Gandalf up.
The idea is that by the Shadow player being able to assign any minion to Gandalf, the Shadow player has a better chance of killing Gandalf (thereby preventing the regroup action from occuring).

There is a card like that for each culture I believe. The idea is that you can take a little extra risk, but get a reward if you can deal with it. Steadfast Champion is x-listed for expanded, however, due to a loop involving Treebeard, KotW.
