After either a physical league kit or a scan of one.
« on: March 22, 2020, 11:16:57 AM »
Hello all, rather a long shot I feel, but I was reminiscing with another designer buddy about the old LorR hobby league system they did back in the day, I'm wondering if anyone knows either of a place that has a scan of the booklets or might have some still knocking around that I could either download/have/buy.

It genuinely was one of my favorite parts of playing the game in the fellowship block and it almost made coming up against constant Elf/Urukhai decks tolerable.

Thanks in advance.

I feel as if I can almost barely remember what you're referring to. Any other details you might be able to share?

So from my memory there was a booklet which had weekly challenges on them like "trade a card" "play a companion with x crest" "play a game without talking" and for each one you got a stamp, if you got enough stamps you got a promo, I think the first promo was a foil bridge of kazadum and then it was fireworks, bill the pony, galadrial and something else.

There was a later hobby league called "Race to Mount Doom" which was a large poster which you created custom sites on so when you would be at site X you replaced its text with the text from the poster, or possibly it was in addition to, but I know someone with a copy of that and it seemed far less interesting than the little booklets.

Race to Mount Doom was the thing I was not-quite-remembering! Maaaaaaan that would be sweet to have back.

I've been around since the FotR prerelease but I totally missed out on whatever little joy you're attempting to uncover.

I just did a good 40 minutes of Internet Archive Diving for Decipher and DGMA and I didn't come up with anything like you describe. Sorry.

I remember my buddy who was a DGMA "Rider of Rohan" back in the early 2000s had a lot of resources that Decipher provided him. I wonder if he still has it all....I've been meaning to check in with him.

I found this poking around on the wiki. You might have already seen it:

Here's something. It's not comprehensive, but I'll keep digging :)

I feel like you are talking about the Race to Mount Doom. I have the Return of the king version. There are stickers to put on the board after players win certain games such as "Fellowship: Exert X companions to remove x" or "The twilight cost of each of your mounts is -5".

there are three league kits that I knw of:

(1) 2002 league kit: this one came with a booklet that was stamped by a decipher representative, if you fulfilled certain requirements. You then received one of the first AI promos.

(2) Race tp Mount Doom (TTT version): Booklet came with retailer/home kits and decals that listed the additional rules.

(3) Race to Mount Doom (RotK version) worked the same way the TTT version did.

Here are the cling sheets for (2) and (3). (1) did not have cling sheets: http://lotrtcgwiki.com/forums/index.php/topic,8276.msg85419.html#msg85419

If there people are interested I can scan the kit documents I have and uplad them to dropbox when I find the time.

Martin

P.S.: If anybody reading this still has the stamper for the 2002 kit, or the Countdown to the King promotion I would be VERY interested in purchasing them from you. Thanks.

The 2002 booklet sounds very similar to what's being described. I'd be interested in seeing it too, and I'm sure they'd make a neat addition to the wiki if you uploaded them somewhere.

I KNEW THE THING EXISTED. If you could scan the booklet I would love you forever. The guy who was our local rider of rohan sadly passed away and all his gaming stuff got binned by his family and he kept all that sort of stuff because of his love of the game.

This one is extremely expensive, but I think this is the same kit you're describing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lord-of-the-Rings-TCG-Official-League-Retail-Lot/164090469786

The booklet, the colour one, is what I'm after, just that or a scan of it.

I just went into my basement full of 40 years of stuff and found these in the first box I looked in!  Along with some other Decipher oddities...fun stuff!

You can have one for a small (maybe tedious) favor - ask around for anyone with these.  I'll buy or trade and have a ton of stuff.

Stargate TCG starter deck foils
Fullmetal Alchemist TCG cards towards the end of the game (Sacrifice, Conqueror of Shamablla)
24 TCG - Tony Almeida Deferring Authority promo
L5R TCG - Clan champion foils from the 2013 holiday gift box
LotR Aragorn RoN or Aragorn's Bow foreign foils

FYI...the stamps still work.  Not too well but I see a red hand!

Ironically the Stargate foils and the Clan Champs I gave away to a couple of friends not too long ago when I did a big clear out of games I'd never hope to play again.

I'd be more than happy to pay some money and shipping to get hold of one of the booklets though, I don't need the stamp, just the booklet, or even a good quality scan of the booklet, to show a company what I mean in regards to the league kit.

@Makoslade: PM sent!

@Moley: I will scan both booklets from the 2002 kit this week and will try and upload it to the files section of the wiki.

Many thanks!
