Help me build a dwarven/moria deck
« on: March 27, 2009, 01:40:34 PM »
I want to get back into the game, my friends and I played around fellowship and TTT block. So, when I get them to dust of their old decks I want a deck that is still compatible with theirs (as fractions and sitepath changed with shadows, right?).

I always loved moria and dwarves, but with the cards we had it wasn't possible to build a dwarven deck that didn't suck. When I am right it was already possible to make dwarves ringbearer in reflections, so I would like to make a dwarven only free-peoples site. As I have no idea of all the new cards and what is good I want you guys to help me with a decklist.

So has anybody input on a dwarven decklist? I would like them to be bashy, but maybe there are other strategys that are good, for example, I saw all these dwarven rings in reflections and a one ring that lets you fetch rings, maybe that's a good theme?

Next there are the  moria goblins. I build a swarm deck in the past, but because of limited cards access it wasn't that good, but I liked the theme. I know you can also build a moria archer deck, can you guys tell me wich strategy is better and provide me a decklist? I know all the good old moria cards (and I just bought five displays of fellowship so I hope I will have them all, except, of course, the few cards from mines of moria)  but maybe there are goodies from the never sets, too?

Thanks in advance.

This doesn't look too focused. Can you say something about it, do you think is better than a focused swarm/archery? If so, why?

True, but you don't need to many minions. I recommend throwing in 2x Orc Taskmaster and 2x Gorgoroth Stormer.

Looks nice, but sadly isn't what I wanted. I really want a deck with old sitepath (to stay compatible with my friends, telling them to invest in new cards isn't the right way to lure them back in the game) and only moria on the shadow part.

One Ring to rule them all.
One Ring to find them.

here's one

38/38

gimli, bearer of grudges
the one ring, the ring of rings

Free peoples
1x Durin III (starting)
1x Dain Ironfoot (starting)
2x Linnar, Dwarven Lord
2x proud and able
4x endurance of dwarves
4x lord of moria
2x book of mazarbul
4x Dwarven Axe
4x Dwarven Bracers
4x hand axe
4x dwarven armor
2x delving
3x Flurry of Blows
3x sharp defense

shadow

4x goblin backstabber
4x goblin runner
4x goblin pursuer
4x goblin scrabbler
4x goblin wallcrawler
4x moria scout
4x goblin sneak
2x the underdeeps of moria
2x they are coming
2x depths of moria
4x goblin swarms

Looks good, some questions regarding the free peoples, moria seems fine:

1. some of the cards are from later sets, so illegal in this format, right?

2. I thought that book of marzabul only works with fellowship sites and in movie block you have to use others?

3. Why this gimli and that ring (again a ring from a later set = illegal?) Doesn't this gimli suck, as you don't want him to fight or am I missing something?

As said, your moria looks streamlined, but so far no one suggested moria archery, is a swarm better?

Moria is more efficient at swarm. Moria archery tends to be really expensive, and there aren't really that many cards that add to the minion total archery.
One Ring to rule them all.
One Ring to find them.
One Ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness, bind them.

1. Sorry, I'm really not the person to answer which ones are allowed, and which aren't. Although I think, if they are from anything after Siege of Gondor, you can't use them ???

2. I believe you would be correct.

3. I believe that both the Gimli and the Ring are illegal. I'd guess that the reason he chose Gimli, is that Gimli goes extremely well with cards like Lord of Moria, (Gimli plus the ring of rings plus 4x Lord of Moria + 1 Dwarven axe + 1 Hand axe + Dwarven Bracers + Dwarven Armor + Proud and Able = 15 resistance = no problem with burdens.).

4. Moria is more efficient at swarm. Moria archery tends to be really expensive, and there really aren't that many cards that add to the minion archery total.

Proud and Able and Sharp defense are both illegal in this format, so moving it into expanded might help.
2. I thought that book of marzabul only works with fellowship sites and in movie block you have to use others?
I think so. If you're right you might want to put in Tidings of Erebor instead which is great for avoiding the rule of 4.
3. Why this gimli and that ring (again a ring from a later set = illegal?) Doesn't this gimli suck, as you don't want him to fight or am I missing something?
The ring is also illegal in this format. This Gimli is the only dwarven ringbearer, and I'm assuming he's using it so he can start Durin III and another dwarf. Durin III is a tank, not to hard to get him to 15+ strength, but personally I prefer not to rely on him as much as this deck seems to.
As said, your moria looks streamlined, but so far no one suggested moria archery, is a swarm better?
I've never made a Moria swarm deck but from what I know it seems to be the most effective. The Moria decks I've made so far are typically archer with a sweet combo with Frenzy. I also throw in Watcher in the Water and the tentacle swarm with Evil Smelling Fens just for fun, but that deck doesn't work as well as most swarms.

EDIT: It looks like Aragorn_Ellessar beat me to it. Reflections is allowed though, meaning the Gimli, Durin III, Linnar, etc. are legal.

oops thought this was expanded... probably trade dain for uri, dwarven lord, RoR for AtaR hmm proud and able for 2x memories of darkness or aggression the sharp defense for another  skirmish event and there is a dwarven bracers from set 2... 2U3.

2. I thought that book of marzabul only works with fellowship sites and in movie block you have to use others?
hmm you're right maybe switch it for preparations or loyalty unshaken

3. Why this gimli and that ring (again a ring from a later set = illegal?) Doesn't this gimli suck, as you don't want him to fight or am I missing something?
no this gimli's fine as long as you keep your conditions out and maybe trade one of those dwarven axes for Gimli's Battle Axe, Trusted Weapon.

As said, your moria looks streamlined, but so far no one suggested moria archery, is a swarm better?
Archery eh, i run a moria archery combined with some mordor i'll try and post a decklist soon

I would definetly play expanded to get very strong cards in, I do not play any other axe, than heavy axe, why should I?? and many token conditions, like chamber of records and definetly preperations and the fortunes of balins folk. important here is well-crafted armor. I think dwarven decks just do not need a concept, they really do not need. just play many card drawers and all the mighty companions, like gimli, bearer of grudges, linnar, dl, gloin, sog and definetly durin!

Yeah, after reading here a bit I think so, too. I will maybe open a new thread in expanded, but right now I think I wanna build the decks of garrisonofgondor (here only the free-people site) and legolas3333, I like them both.

why is anyone even interested in these strange lists some people (wasn't that decipher??) created that meant cards are too strong?? do you guys play the whole day on tournaments or why you care about ''lists''. I play the cards I like, do not know how you call that. perhaps playing lotr, maybe. or having fun. sorry but this stuff makes me angry every time. I mean, this game is dead, only very few people still play it.....and why not play the way you like?

because other player may object? If I build a deck dat gets me my key conditions back every single turn, because I think that is fun, there would be certain people that would find that annoying...that's why

yeah, that is sad, due to the fact I play an ''fair open format'' with my friends. a pity that some guys just want to rule an nice game of lotr with crazy stuff like fruit loops or something else. I just find it cool, to play the same decks as possibly you do, but just with more options, nothing else. I own an saruman, sos, but find him too strong, so I do not play him. maybe I should sell him ..... seriously

Well, too strong? I don't know. The combination though of Nelya, Isengard Ruined, Whispers in the Cark...that makes it too strong, not fun to play against. You can break it up, but you need a specific fellowship. But a single SoS can't bother me, just kill the minion you are skirmishing.
