General Strategy

Harry Goatleaf, along with Ruffian, Squint Eyed Southerner and Rough Man of the South, make up the four [Men] Men from set 18 that get strength bonuses based on region. All of them have the same text, never pay roaming costs and hit hard early in the game. This complements a powerful "rush" strategy where the goal is to kill the opponent early, but means that the minions will be weak at the end of the game. Additionally, since these minions rely on pure strength alone (Unlike the "Advance" [sauron] Orcs of set 10), they are dependant on overwhelms to damage the opposing fellowship. Gathering Strength could work well for this purpose. These minions have okay statistics for their costs in region two, but are particularly weak in region 3. Thus it can be useful to include other cards in a deck with them that are stronger at the later sites (Voice of the Desert, Demon of Might, Many-Tentacled Creature).

Harry Goatleaf has the lowest strength of the group, but two vitality, making him stronger than Ruffian against early-game wounding, and able to exert to play cards,

Extra Information

  • Despite being a named minion, Harry Goatleaf is not unique, most likely due to an oversight by Decipher. This means there can be multiple "Harry Goatleaves" on the table at once.
