Title: Aragorn: ranger of the north vs. Heir of Elindil
Post by: jdizzy001 on December 24, 2009, 02:19:41 PM
So indulge me.  Since I started playing LOTRTCG, rotn has always filled me with wonder.  However, once TT came out and I saw heir of elendil I could not believe my eyes.  Hence, here is my question, which do you prefer? Why?  In my opinion, this isn't as simple an answer as I think.  The ranger key word is not as important as it was when LOTR first came out thus is almost a null point, and heir of elendil is always defender +1 which makes him very handy.  However, rotn can be exerted to become defender +3 which is neigh unheard of from any other companions.  SO, provided you aren't building a ranger deck, I would say that heir of elendil is better.   or

Well, Aragorn, Ranger of the North is better, and that's why:
There are so many cards that require the Ranger Keyword like No Stranger to the Shadows, Pathfinder, An Able Guide  and many more, and exerting him seems not so hard for all this support cards.

Depends on format and goal. I like Ranger of The North better mainly for Moria protection.

Both Gorn's can be used effectively,  HTTToG is also another defender option.

but if you aren't playing ranger cards, wouldn't heir elendil work just as well?  After all, aren't most of the newer aragorns w/o the ranger keyword?  But then again, as muab said, it depends on the format you're playing

Swordarm of the White Tower is a nice guaranteed +4 pump for Aragorn, Heir of Elendil

Aragorn, Thorongil has the Ranger keyword.

I depends of the situation. I would say that Aragorn, Heir to Elendil than Aragorn, RotN in every situation except when:

- You need the ranger keyword.
- You use it as a splash companion who acts as swarm protection or a speed-bump.

Look, when you don't need the Ranger Keyword, you play other Aragorns like Aragorn, Defender of Free Peoples or, better, Aragorn, Heir to the White City which is banned in may formats... buhuhu...
Aragorn, Heir to the White City FTW!

Oh well, the question was about RotN and HtE... but I like to use HtE when I use cards like Trust me as you once did.

Good choice.  trust me decks are among my favorite.  However, when aragorn is missing the ranger keyword, he is a lot harder to pull from your draw deck.  For me, that is what this boils down to.  Do I play a ranger aragorn and pull him with prancing pony, or do I stack copies of aragorn to ensure I draw him as the game progresses.  All the above mentioned points are good.  Thanks for everyone's in put.
