Actually, the Ring-bearer technically isn’t ’played’; he is placed in play, and thus Smeagol Bearer of Great Secrets does not add a burden when he is the RB.

The only deck that this would seem to work in would maybe be a Troll deck. Even then though, I’m not sure. The cost is very high for so small a benefit.
