Nope. The site’s effect is not useable until after the starting fellowship is played. |

The typical combo is Hobbit Farmer + Green Hill Country. |

Here’s a semi-related question: can allies be used in the starting fellowship? Also, can I have a Smeagol in the starting fellowship, just because he doesn’t cost anything? |

You can play any companions you want in your starting fellowship, as long as you meet any spotting requirements in their text and their total cost is 4 or less.
You cannot start with allies, only companions. |
All cards do what they say. |

Remember too, if you play Smeagol, to add the burden in his game text. Anything that says "When you play..." must be done, even if the companion is in your starting fellowship. |

Just found this question, and I thought I should add that, any companions in your starting fellowship other than the ring-bearer must ALSO fulfill the "to play" costs, and their "when you play" abilities are operational. So, if you played Smeagol, Slinker in your starting fellowship, he would cost 0 but would add a burden, and if then you played (companions on the starting fellowship ARE played one at a time, so spotting requirements can be met with a companion you played) Pippin, Hobbit of Some Intelligence, you’d get to remove that burden. |
I don't like YOU. |
