Well, one could assume it’s Morgoth, but Morgoth was banished from the world at the end of the first age after the war of wrath. So therefore since the power of the Valar still hold in Middle-Earth, Morgoth could not return. I do like the idea of having a new dark lord, it seems so... videogamish. Wink

Which stuff?

-----

I went ahead and named her Delmor for the Common Speech (and decided that it means "Demon master"), which would be the equivalent of the name Sauron. Her two main titles are Dark Queen and Master of Creatures.

With some names secured, I’ve started focusing on her minions. Gandalf (as read in the quote in my earlier post) speaks of nameless things that carved their own passageways out of the roots of the mountains. Those creatures I don’t think will be very hard to imagine, but I’d like a plethora of beings for Delmor to amass into her own army.

So I ask you: What are some of the scariest, most wickedly evil animals/creatures/monsters you can think of? Your very own designs are fine, but it would be awesome if you could name some mythological beast (Tolkien used things like Trolls and giant spiders - things that don’t exist but everyone knows).

Don’t forget about the Watcher in the Water, either. Let him be a basis for some of your creature designs (lots of tentacles, slimey, etc.).

I guess it is fine by me.

Spammers really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month. And yet, after a hundred years, they can still surprise you. Razz

Here are some names for Delmor’s lair:

Quenya:
Nútalan (Under-world)
Tumnatal (Deep foundation)

Sindarin:
Nuinamar (Under the world)
Tovoniand (roughly: Deepest place, or “Deep land”)

I still need ideas for the numerous "nameless things" Gandalf spoke of. Start thinking of scary creatures and let me know what you come up with!

More work finished, and now I have some creatures for you!

Aiwëlundo
I did some research, and apparently no name for bats have been given in Elvish. So I made one. This name means "deformed bird" or "evil bird", and is for your ’standard’ LotR bat.

Alataiwëlundo
This is one of the *large* bats used in Delmor’s armies. These things are remarkably huge, and in proper numbers could take down the Nazgul mounts. The name simply means "Great bat".

Húanorta
This is some kind of underground wolf hunter. Slightly larger than your average wolf (or wargs), and are completely black with sheer black fur. Their eyes are very small, but their sense of smell is unmatched. The name means "horrible hunter."

Lamyalóra
So far, these guys are the creepiest creatures in service to Delmor. Their name means simply "soundless" or "silent", because they have the uncanny ability to sneak up right on top of you. Walking on two legs with short arms with powerful claws on the end, they most resemble Men.

Nólatirno
These creatures are the protectors of Delmor. The name means "wise guard," because - for animals - they are very intelligent. They never stray from Delmor’s side, and are ruthless to intruders.

Rotelëma
These are the "orcs" of Delmor’s forces. By that, I mean they are the grunt warriors. Their name means "cave dweller" and they do nothing more than follow orders. I imagine that they walk low to the ground on four legs, much like crocodiles.

Rottolë
And these are the tunnel makers Gandalf eludes to in The Two Towers. While relatively defenseless, they are abominations so horrible a sight that not even Gandalf wishes to recall them. They burrow deep holes into the earth, moving themselves like a mole or giant worm.

How do you like these guys?

Just from tinkering with a cardlist for my upcoming DC set, I’ve come up with some simple, non-Elven names for a few things.

Firstly, the name of the culture in the set will be Underland, the Common Speech form of Nútalan, the Quenyan name for Delmor’s lair.

For the bat element, the Alataiwëlundo (big bats) are called Greatbats in the tongue of Men. Also, Alataiwë is the greatest of them.

The Húanorta (singular: Húanor) are simply called Heavy Wolves by Men.

Those are my updates for the night.

Here’s the cardlist, as it is as of now:
Underland Culture:
1. Alataiwë, Greatest of Bats
2. Catacombs of Underland
3. Dark Claws
4. Dark Forces Summoned
5. Delmor, Black Goddess
6. Delmor, Daughter of the Abyss
7. The Dark Queen Awakens
8. Delmor’s Fury
9. Delmor’s Guidance
10. Fear Not the Light
11. Gnawed
12. Greatbat Seeker
13. Greatbat Sweeper
14. Heavy Wolf Ambusher
15. Heavy Wolf Hunter
16. Heavy Wolf Snuffler
17. Hordes Unleashed
18. Lost Tunnels
19. Subterranean Fortress
20. Sudden Assault
21. Sweeping Skies
22. Terror of Their Sight
23. Underland Assassin
24. Underland Bodyguard
25. Underland Captain
26. Underland Charger
27. Underland Chieftain
28. Underland Follower
29. Underland Soldier
30. Underland Pools
31. Underland Protector
32. Underland Striker
33. Underland Trooper
34. Underlending Detachment
35. Underlending Patrol
36. Where Time is Not Counted
