Hey guys,

I think one of the first things we need to decide for this set is how many keywords we want to introduce. Thus, I suggest that everyone post the amount they would like, along with why they want that specific amount.

I myself would like 3 new keywords, following in the footsteps of Shadows (Lurker, Muster, & Toil). Any more than that could be rather confusing, and un-needed. 1 or 2 new keywords would be okay, but having 3 would be the best IMHO.

Let’s see...
FotR had:
Archer, Damage +1, Defender +1, Fierce, and Ring-bearer, from what I can remember, outa the top off my head. So, I vote for the maximum of 5, which opens possibilities.

Well, Fotr was the FIRST set, so it had to introduce some keywords... while what we have is simply expanding on the old.

Well, how many LOADED (meaning things like Easterling, Southron and/or Besieger, which simply servers as triggers, are out) keywords does the game have? Let’s list’em!
Ring-bearer
Archer
Damage +X
Defender +X
Fierce
Enduring
Lurker
Muster
Toil
Ambush
Initiative
(ok, not a loaded keyword, but oughta be listed, I think)
That’s all I can remember right now...
Now, we can both create new keywords AND "name" older abilities, like it’s done with Magic all the time (sometimes, as they name it, they tweak it a little, so, for instance, tOO’s steeled idea would fall in the "renaming" category).

Things that should be "named":
"Can’t take more than one wound during each skirmish"
"Each time this wins a skirmish, add/remove a burden"
"Each time this wins a skirmish, add/remove a threat"
"Each time this wins a skirmish, discard a possession/condition/minion/weapon/etc"
"Each time this wins a skirmish, exert/wound/heal a minion/companion"
"At the start of... heal..."
"Each time this wins a skirmish, ... discards a card from hand/from the top of the draw deck"
Each time this wins a skirmish, take a ... card into hand from the draw deck/from the discard pile"
"Each time this wins a skirmish, add/remove X"
"When you play this, add/remove X"
"When you play this, ... draws/discards a card from hand/from the top of the draw deck"
"When you play this, add/remove a burden"
"This can’t take wounds"
"This can’t take wounds when exhausted"
"This is strength +X for each wound on each character in its skirmish/for each burden you can spot/for each threat you can spot/for each ... site you can spot/for each site you control"

Now, these are some ideas that just ocurred to me, from abilities frequently seen in cards all over the game. We dont have to name them all, and we CERTAINLY don’t have to name them all in ONE set, but it might be a good place to start. So, that’s why I said 5 weren’t that big a number, it would be 2-3 NEW abilities, + 2-3 "renamed" ones. Wink
Oh, and if someone remembers other keywords, PM me so I can edit this post (don’t simply go posting them, so this thread doesn’t become a mess).

I suggest that tOO’s steeled and AC’s captain be the only new keywords for Allies of the North.

I really don’t want to go between 1 or 2 keywords, new or not. It gets really confusing with too many keywords.

AC-I’m fine with this topic...actually, I probably should have started it a little bit earlier, myself!

I think that if you are doing DCs that use LOTR TCG rules
but with something like Star Wars, or Bionicle we should use
5 new keywords for the first set and 2-3 for the rest.
What I mean is don’t create a keyword just for the sake of
creating a keyword do it when you get an idea; but don’t get
extreme. Thats just my Two Cents.

Right-this is actually an LOTR expansion set, so I’d like to stick to 1-2. Remember, not every expansion has introduced a new keyword. Realms of the Elf Lords and Mines of Moria didn’t. BoHD and Ents of Fangorn didn’t.
