"Duplicitous," as in tricky, deceitful, two-faced? I always thought the Ringwraiths were just straight-up and unambiguously evil.
Anyway, this new Cantea has a pretty powerful skirmish ability. The only trouble is reaching that 2-resistance mark. The -1 resistance for each card borne will help, but usually not much; you’ll need help from another card, or several burdens, to make this work. Ulaire Cantea, Duplicitous Assassin could fit nicely into a Nazgul corruption deck, but I think I’d prefer Ulaire Cantea, Black Assassin in that case. |

This guy makes a great splash into decks like Uruk resistance-lowering and Men resistance-lowering. Not only does he have his great stats and fierce, he also has 2 abilities targeting resistance.
While it would be nice to have his ability in the maneuver phase, having it in the skirmish phase opens up the ability to only exert companions who are assigned to a skirmish; if done during maneuver, the Freeps could just not assign those companions. |

Wonderful vs. any deck running possessions, Dwarves for example. there resistance goes kaplut, There are better Canteas though, but with some vitality boosters, like a ring you could play him every site, handing out plentiful exertions. Combo’ed with either Corruption, or resistance decks he could be a major NPE. |

This card stinks. Why would you go for exerting a companion with resistance 2 or less, when you can assign Black Assassin to a companion with resistance 0 and (possibly) kill him? I don’t see this guy being used much. Except as a resistance lowering splash, but that deck (IMO) stinks anyway. |

Dwarven Tokens, Gandalf Men, Resistance Lowering, and much, much, more, all crap in the eyes of NBarden.
I like him. Seems like a good splash for the Uruk Resistance deck, because it lowers resistance and exerts companions... what more could an uruk want? Although Black Assassin could be better, this Canteas resistance-lowering ability makes him slightly more usuable, I think... not many resistance decks actually bring a companion down to resistance 0 unless they’re really trying... 2 is much more common and doable. |

Not true! Gandalf men are one of the best strategies.
I actually said nobody uses them.
Quote: Resistance Lowering
Why else would I advocate Ulaire Cantea, Black Assassin, and run him in my Nazgul deck? And why do I like the Throne of Sauron? I opposed condition-centered resistance lowering, because conditions stink, not resistance lowering.
Decks I love.
Warg Riders
Corruption
Corruption
anything!
Some troll decks
Dunlending/Uruk site control
Ninja Gollum
Southron Wounding
Deceived Wizards
Dwarf Choke
Ithilien Blade
Knight Fortifications (unless my friend is playing it against me)
Elladan/Elrohir Events
Elf Archery
Gandalf Men
Ents!
Rohan Exertions (Eomer, TMotR, Hrethel, Elite Rider, etc.)
Solo-Smeagol
Pipeweed
Decks I hate:
Condition centered anything. Conditions supplement decks, they aren’t the central card in decks. Even my Trust Me as You Once Did deck had a fallback strategy that enabled the deck to continue without trust me as you once did, or supplemented the deck. (As a matter of fact, I rarely used Trust Me, it was kinda the fallback strategy)
Most Trolls. With a hate borne of experience. I CAN’T SURVIVE AGAINST THESE DECKS!
Uruk-Hai Tank. It requires no skill to build an Uruk tank deck, and yet it kills!
There, I hope I cleared things up a bit. |

It SEEMED like you were opposed to that kind of deck.
Sorry about the gandy men thing, must have been someone else who said it twasn’t very good...
I love decks that run on conditions, except now that there are too many cards that can discard them. *sigh* Oh well, back to elvents...
Trolls... very annoying. Although I love running IB against trolls, and watching as there Porter Troll with Mordor Scimitar is simlpy discarded by a lowly ranger.
Uruk-Hai fall to IB and wounding rangers as well, I find. Four Copies of Broad Bladed sword is almost their only defense, and even then, most of the ranger cards wound during skirmish phases....
I used to run an resistance deck, myself, but it kept getting creamed. Too bad hunters seem to be the only uruk-hai deck left alive... D sometimes spits out new cards that could be used with old (er) strategies, but really, they’re not helping much...
Okay, okay, this new Cantea is not that great, but for those of us that just can’t seem to get ahold of those four Black Assassins... |

Okay, it stinks now. But with new cards that lower resistance and the Throne of Sauron, these decks might make a comback, since one copy of deep in thought will no longer destroy the whole deck.
Oh, and on conditions, Freeps are okay, since there aren’t that many good shadow cards that kill freep conditions. That may change with RoS.
Oh and this card is decent, BTW, it just will never see play because of Black Assassin. Kinda like Eomer, Northman wouldn’t stink if there were no TMotR. |

Whatever, this card is awful compared to the black assassin. His only use is as a splash, if you cannot add some a shadow rises in your shadow side to add the assassin as well... |
