A very strange new minion card for the Uruk-hai. At twilight for a 6/2, he’s overcosted, and at this strength level fierce is less of a benefit and more of a curse, allowing the Free Peoples player an extra chance to kill the minion and set up a double-move. So in terms of simple stats, White Hand Slayer is the pits.
But that ability is interesting. The Free Peoples player won’t often need to use skirmish events against such a small minion, and even if he does, exerting an Uruk-hai minion during skirmishes isn’t very useful. So White Hand Slayer’s text is almost entirely a benefit for the Shadow side. Imagine playing the Slayer with two or three skirmish pumps in hand. Suddenly that little 6-strength minion is actually winning his skirmish and staring down an exhausted companion!
Since there are so few good Uruk-hai skirmish pumps (and the best one, Violent Hurl, doesn’t do much for this minion), I don’t think White Hand Slayer will see much play. But it’s still a very interesting card to think about, and it could send shivers down the spine of a Free Peoples player who doesn’t know how many skirmish events your deck is packing.
Combo idea: White Hand Slayer + Broken in Defeat slaughters six-companion fellowships! |

And an easy ferocity as well. This minion is really cool, I could see him easily exhausting the ring-bearer, and then throwing on some twilight Nazgul, or potentially even return to its master.
Unless, of course, the blasted RB wears the Ring of Doom. (drat)
But without the Ring of Doom, I think that it would be a good ring-bearer wounding minion.
Also, Broken in Defeat with enough twilight could exhaust every companion in the fellowship. Now that kills.
Seriously, eight cards (4x this, 4x Broken in Defeat) splashed into a threatgul deck with shotgun Enquea. 9 threats, 9 companions, exhaust the fellowship with this guy, pull out enquea next turn and drop a guy, watch threats either destroy the fellowship or force the RB to add burdens, if there are enough burdens, Enquea knocks out even more guys.
What did you say? He’s fierce?
This card is a good wounding card. |

Very cool card, especially with Broken in Defeat.
I wish, though, that this card had never been made, because events are often under used and the last thing they need is a card that can make them useless. I mean, it’s not like Anarion and the Elvent decks are dominating the tournament scene.
But, since he will be printed, I can say that I would currently only use him in conjunction with Broken in Defeat as a way to punish decks with lots of companions.
Just be sure to pack some wound prevention to ensure that he gets to the skirmish phase - Fortitude or Invincible Uruk for Standard format, or Broad-bladed Sword in Expanded format. |

If the Free Peoples player plays an event during White Hand Slayer’s skirmish, the Free Peoples player gets to exert a minion. (Or not.) So how does this card harm event-based fellowships? |

Oh... I guess I misread it.
In that case, I’m all for it since it encourages Freeps and Shadow events. |

A very interesting mechanic. And I betcha we see some strength pumps in this set. I wonder if there’s a way to make this guy hunter? If so...oh, that would be naaaasty with Violent Hurl!! |

Saruman, Instigator of Insurrection makes your guys have Hunter.
And Saruman, Curunir stops a companion from being a Hunter, so you can exert him with your own shadow events.
interesting possibilities.

Hmm...yes, Instigator of Insurrection + Violent Hurl + this guy would be absolutely devastating against huge fellowships (aka Ents)! Pump this guy up, especially if you’ve got Blade of the White Hand in there, and he can kill off an Ent easy! |
