um I am waiting for BtO’s review, yeah it would be nice to go back to LOTR cards, and have a smaller challenge, I was burned out for a week after this one.

Sure, even if I can’t win, I’ll have some fun. Very Happy

Maybe pick up a few extra gp, all that.

By the way, gp to felipe for taking the time to host such a big contest. You guys complain about all the cards he makes you do (and I did too), but he actually has to review all of them, and figure all the scores! It seems like an awfully big job. It’s gp well earned. Applause

First of all, thanks guys, it’s actually more fun than burdening, to review all the cards, although sometimes I leave the computer dizzy, seeing small letters flying about... Laughing
EL, I think you’re forgetting the rules... As I said before, after each elimination challenge, the scores will be RESET. Also, Gagnut DID submit his cards for the first challenge (so he’s not considered as having dropped out), but submited only 2 out of 10 (10? Is this correct? Wow, I put you guys through quite some work alright!), so if you actually take place in the last round, and get something of an average score, you still get to go to round 2, since I believe Gagnut won’t be taking place in this round anyway! Wink And yes, of course, you can get at least 1 gp "for free".

Anyway, bto’s review will go right below. After that, you’re all free to challenge the grades (and, as I said before, EL is free to challenge one grade too, as is any other spectator...), and I’ll hopefully have the next challenge posted on Sunday (yeah, that means you’re all on kind of a tight schedule, but since bto is an active member, he’ll have no problem in pledging before deadline, that’s why I left him to the end). Nextone will be neat. Depending on how creative and smart you all are, it could mean you’d have to create anything from 12-36 cards... As I said, depends on how smart you all are! Also, don’t be alarmed, they won’t be THAT hard to come up with, you’ll see. However, since this is the last leg of round 1, the REAL challenge will be getting an edge to finish in first place, earning a small gp boost... Wink (also, since I sais I’d alter the rules a little, by the end of the Contest, all round winners will have a small prize, although I won’t give you a number crunch on it).
I don't like YOU.

3 My Way’s Not Very Sportsman-like [Giant]
Event ● Skirmish
To play, spot a Gondor companion with strength 11 or more.
When this event is played, wound 2 minions and 1 unbound companion.
When he comes hit him with a rock
Common

Comments: I like the feel of this one! Great opener! Only, I was left kind of wondering, is this supposed to be a Free Peoples card or a Shadow card? Aside from that, it looks very cool, although you’re still having a few problems with lack of capitalization on card titles. Not all words there need to be capitalized, surely, but some do.
Grade: 8.9

0 True Love Elven
Condition
Bearer must be a Wizard.
Fellowship: Exert bearer three times to take a companion into hand from the dead pile.
True love is the greatest thing in the world - except for a nice MLT”
Rare

Comments: Ouch! Ok, it’s hard to use, but it’s still waaaaay broken. Could’ve demanded 4 exertions (meaning you’d HAVE to have a vitality boost, at least) so it’d be slightly more balanced, and it’s DEFINITELY got to be unique.
Grade: 9.0

2 It Would Take a Miracle Gandalf
Event • Skirmish
Skirmish: If the Ring-bearer is about to die in a skirmish, discard all minions skirmishing him and place 3 unbound companions in the dead pile.
”So do you think they can do it?” “It would take a miracle”
Uncommon

Comments: Now THIS one is cool. However, it SHOULD be at least A LITTLE culture-enforced, I don’t know, make it "Spot Gandalf to...", although I DO like it as a splashable.
Grade: 9.7

2 You Killed My Father Rohan
Event • Skirmish
Exert a Rohan man to wound a minion once for each companion in the dead pile.
” My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die!”
Uncommon

Comments: SOOO COOL! So far, I’m fairly impressed with bto’s submission! Still needs to work a little on formatting, though.
Grade: 9.8

4 But Not the Ears Gondor
Event • Maneuver
Exert a Gondor Man twice to discard a Men minion and draw three cards.
”And then my ears, I understand let’s get on with it”.
Common

Comments: I like it! It’s overcosted and specific, thus balanced. However, common cards should be more... "simplistic", so this one would be better as an uncommon.
Grade: 9.5

1 As You Wish Elven
Condition • Suppory Area
To play exert a Gondor man.
If Buttercup is about the be killed by a wound, discard this condition to prevent that wound.
When he was saying "as you wish", what he meant was, "I love you."
Common

Comments: Really cool, no complaints aside from capitalizing issues.
Grade: 9.8

3 I’m am the Brute Squad [giant]
Condition
Plays on a companion with strength 12 or more.
Bearer gains Damage +1
Maneuver: Discard a possession borne by bearer to wound a minion.
Skirmish: Exert bearer to draw a card (limit 2).
Regroup: Exert a companion to discard a card from hand.
Common

Comments: Nice. Again, a bit too complicated for a common (remember, commons are what introduces the game to players, since it’s what they see the most at early stages).
Grade: 9.0

4 Iocaine Gondor
Toil 2
Possession • Support Area
Maneuver: Take the top four cards of your draw deck into hand.
Wound a minion for each Shadow card you drew. Discard this possession and four cards from hand.
"Not remotely! Because Iocaine comes from Australia!”
Uncommon

Comments: Completely wrong. It should read "Reveal the top four cards of your draw deck, and take them into hand. Wound a minion for each Shadow card revealed this way. Discard this possession and four cards form hand.", after all, ANY effect that depends on getting certain cards into hand or any effect that let you search for a card in your draw deck also has to pack the "reveal clause", otherwise, ill-heartened players could simply lie about it. Also, it’s insanely powerful and undercosted, a poor submission, when compared to all the great ones before.
Grade: 6.5

2Anduril, The Sword that is Broken Gondor
Strength: +2
Vitality: +1
Possession • Hand Weapon
Bearer must be Aragorn.
Maneuver: Exert the ringbearer to discard a minion from play (limit whatever you feel like).
Regroup Exert a companon to draw X amount of cards where X is the amount of cards you feel like drawing.
“This is certainly a broken sword, no more will the game be fair”.
Rare +

Comments: Well, what can I say? It’s too broken, but then again, it was MEANT to be this way! This one is VERY hard to grade because of that (oh, yeah, and the title alone is probably the best one yet, in all submissions, I still laugh about it!), but this time, I’m gonna go with the joke (although it COULD have packed yet ANOTHER joke, like "This card is X-Listed, unless your opponent agrees to allow it".
Grade: 8.8

1 Pepper from the Shire Shire
Vitality: +2
Possession • Spice
Bearer should be a hobbit.
If bearer is an unbound hobbit, bearer gains muster.
If bearer is Frodo or Sam they gain Satisfied (Each time a companion with Satisfied is assigned to a skirmish, you may eat a piece of pizza or chicken). “Aaa-a-achooo!”
“Bless you Sam.”

Uncommon

Comments: Loved the parody feel on this one! However, the non-parody part is too powerful, perhaps even broken. I loved the should be a hobbit part, although then it leaves a doubt: can it, or can it not be played on other characters? Could create a big confusion.
Grade: 7.5

4 •Standard Orc, Repeating Foe [orc]
Strength: 7
Vitality: 4
Site Number: 5
Minion • Orc
Maneuver:[/b] Spot this orc to play an orc from your discard pile. Add 2 or 3 or 4.
Repeat until your discard pile is less then 1 standard millimeters (mm) high.
The standard orc units of Saruman, the meter and gram, will convert all of the Rohhirim people, the foot and pound.
uncommon

[b]Comments:
I liked the title A LOT (almost as much as Anduril), but I expected more of it. As it is, it’s just... too broken. Perhapes making the maneuver ability: "Play a non-unique orc from your discard pile".
Grade: 7.0

2 Take the Burden Gollum
Event • Skirmish
To play, spot an unsuspecting opponent.
Remove any number of burdens from your ring-bearer and place them on your opponents ring-bearer. When your opponent asks what you are doing... run away.
”Have a burden, I don’t want it.”
Rare

Comments: AMAZING! VERY cool card! No complaints at all, aside from one minor nitpick, but that comma is SUCH a minor mistake I can’t take myself to lower your grade on this one!
Grade: 10

5 Boredom [whatever]
Event • Whenever
Play when you are bored of playing the game or something.
Remove your ring-bearer from the game and replace him/her with your shoe.
Your opponent wins and may now hit you with the shoe for wanting to quit.
“I am bored.” ..... THWHACK!!!.....“Owww!”
Uncommon

Comments: Does nothing, and condones violence. You all know my policy on this by now. A small slap onthe back of the head I could bear with, shoe-tossing, no.
Grade: 2.0

1 Fire! Moria
Condition • Support Area
To play spot a Moria archer.
Exert an archer minion to light a match and place it on top of one of your opponent’s unbound companion. (Limit: Number of matches you have).
”Gimli, where is the fire extinguisher?”
Promo

Comments: I must say I liked the title joke, but as I said before, lighting another person’s card on fire isnot acceptable... No matter how many times you wanted to burn sop’s artifacts after a fight! Wink
Grade: 4.5

4 Gandalf, The Wizard known as White Gandalf
Companion • Wizard
Strength: 7
Vitality: 4
Resistance: 8
When you play Gandalf, play a CD by a famous pop artist in the background.
Skirmish or sooner: Exert Gandalf to remove said CD from CD player and break it.
Had he not been a wizard, a career as a pop artist might have been profitable.
Common

Comments: Well, this does nothing, but then again, it’s a companion, so it’s at least a meat shield.
Grade: 5.5

1 Forked Tongue Isengard
Event • Support Area
Take a fork an put it in your tongue. Your opponents ring-bearer is killed.
Remove fork from tongue, unless you don’t want to.
”Really sir, they are all the rage.”
Rare or something

Comments: Well, for such an effect, I SUPPOSE you mean to actually stick it in your tongue, piercing it, and I by no means condone with violence, even with your own self. I did like the "Event • Support Area" idea, though, like a recurring event...
Grade: 4.5

FINAL GRADE: 7.625 (and yet another gp for bto!)

Ok, and that’s it for the round, Contestants! You have until Sunday night to challenge any one grading (basically meaning one card), and spectators are ALSO allowed to challenge, as normal (although it never happened)!

My Challenge:

Quote:
0 Ent Infestation Gandalf
Condition • Site
When the fellowship moves to this site, they may play as many Ents as they please from their draw deck. If the shadow players opposes, tough luck for him. Discard those Ents at the End of the Game.
"Saruman had run dry, or wet in this case, on his luck."
UUER (Ultra Unbelievably Extremely Rare)

Comments: I liked the rarity thing, and if the parenthesis part is merely explanative and you meant just the letters, it COULD be done. However, it would still not be the best way of doing so, it would be best to just use an R (for rare) of another color, like golden! Then, the card is REALLY cool, and if you would get one in every 3 or so boxes, it would be balanced enough. Also, you can only play it if you’re behind, and you’d add a TON of twilight, so NICE one! Cool opener for the parody part!
Grade: 9.5

Okay, this may be out there, but I’m assuming I got docked some points for having (Ultra Unbelievably Extremely Rare) in parenthesis. I put them for your understanding, so as not to confuse you, not to be on the actual card. Smile

First off whats is so bad about this.
After all you basically are having an archer Fire an arrow at a companion in this case setting him on fire.
Besides that it is Promo which makes it a bit harder to get.
And did you read my lore? That has gotta be worth something.
